Diese Arbeit beleuchtet die Rolle Wiens bei der Errichtung eines slowakischen Staates. Bisher wurde der Bedeutung der handelnden Personen der Wiener NS-Hierarchie in diesem Zusammenhang kaum wissenschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Diese Lucke soll durch die Heranziehung der vor allem im Bundesarchiv vorhandenen Bestande geschlossen werden. Dabei handelt es sich vornehmlich um Akten von Geheimdienststellen in Wien und der Slowakei sowie den Nachlass des Wiener Reichsstatthalters Seyss-Inquart. Bisherige Darstellungen zeichneten ein auf Berlin zentriertes Bild der Vorgange rund um die Zerschlagung der Tschechoslowakei. Nun wird der hohe Grad an Eigenstandigkeit der Wiener Stellen in dieser Frage ebenso deutlich wie die Ruckwirkungen der Wiener Aktionen sowohl auf die Berliner Reichs- als auch die slowakische Innenpolitik dieser Zeit.
Osterreich hatte keine Beruhrungsangste gegenuber Diktatoren, unterstutzte sie auf dem internationalen Parkett und pflegte - teilweise heimlich - gute Beziehungen zu umstrittenen Regimen. Nicht nur deshalb sorgten die Beziehungen zu Spanien, Portugal und Griechenland fur Diskussionen. Im Umgang mit den drei Diktaturen Sudeuropas nach 1945 offenbart sich ein ambivalentes Verhaltnis mit der eigenen Geschichte. Woher kam die naturliche Nahe zu den iberischen Diktatoren, und was hat die eigene faschistische Vergangenheit damit zu tun? Wieso wurde Griechenlands Militar-Diktatur im Gegensatz dazu offen kritisiert? Drei Autoren werfen einen neuen Blick auf die politisch-diplomatischen Beziehungen der Zweiten Republik. Die Beitrage bringen Neues, teilweise Uberraschendes und bieten Ausgangspunkte fur weitere Forschungen.
