Shortlisted Gerald Lampert Memorial AwardAn elegant debut collection that illuminates the contours of un/belonging. Dayo: a Tagalog word referring to someone who exists in a place not their own. A wanderer, migrant worker, exile or simply a stranger. At its core, the poems in Dayo interrogate whether belonging can exist in a society suffused with violence. Here, the poet, as a stranger, confronts the politics of recognition by offering his vision. Reflexive and lyrical, this collection embodies the true curiosity and tenacious spirit of a dayo seeking a place to replant, tend, and grow delicate roots. "Great poetry re-creates the world, and Perez's world is here, built from the fleeting moments you don't always notice, built beautifully, built to last."- Wayde Compton, author of The Outer Harbour and The Blue Road: A Fable of Migration "By the end of all the belovedness catalogued in this book, you too will be heavier with the weight of all that is most gorgeous about this world."- Ed Bok Lee, author of Mithocondrial Night and Whorled "One of the things that most impresses me about this lush, lyrical and soulful collection is its ability to hold hope alongside melancholy and despair...With incredible empathy and insight, he writes for "the fragments of ourselves, pieced together by grief."- Jen Currin, author of Trinity Street At once cinematic and elegiac, this book is an unforgettable contribution and a remarkable achievement."- Adrian De Leon, author of barangay: an offshore poem

The Bright Continent: Breaking Rules and Making Change in Modern Africa
The path to progress in Africa lies in the surprising and innovative solutions Africans are finding for themselves."A hopeful narrative about a continent on the rise." --New York Times Book Review Dayo Olopade knew from personal experience that Western news reports on conflict, disease, and poverty obscure the true story of modern Africa. So she crossed sub-Saharan Africa to document how ordinary people deal with their daily challenges. She found what cable news ignores: a continent of ambitious reformers and young social entrepreneurs, driven by kanju--creativity born of African difficulty. It's a trait found in pioneers like Kenneth Nnebue, who turned cheap VHS tapes into the multimillion-dollar film industry Nollywood. Or Ushahidi, a technology collective that crowdsources citizen activism and disaster relief. A shining counterpoint to the conventional wisdom, The Bright Continent rewrites Africa's challenges as opportunities to innovate and celebrates a history of doing more with less as a powerful model for the rest of the world. "For anyone who wants to understand how the African economy really works, The Bright Continent is a good place to start." --Reuters " An] upbeat study of development in Africa...The book is written more in wonder at African ingenuity than in anger at foreign incomprehension." --The New Yorker

This book contains 52 bible study e-mails sent by the author to his Wisdom of God e-mail list from 1999 to 2000. The e-mails have been left largely unedited and are now presented as a weekly bible study guide. This being one of the uses that original recipients of the e-mails put them to. Most of the study is taken from the book of matthew and explanations are provided as to how the rich and profound teachings of Jesus can eb applied in our lives today. Those on the original list found it a source of encouragement as they studied to make themselves approved unto God...(2 Tim. 2:15).

For years Dayo Olopade struggled to reconcile the medias image of Africa as warring, impoverished and pitiful with the Africa she's known since childhood: resilient, joyful and innovative, a continent of impassioned community leaders. She reports first-hand on the explosion of commercial opportunities and technological innovations that are improving outcomes for families, children and the environment. The Bright Continent joins the conversation started by authors such as Jeffrey Sachs, Nicholas Kristof and Dambisa Moyo. Olopade rejects stale and ineffectual foreign interventions, arguing that the increasingly globalised challenges the continent faces can and must be addressed with the tools Africans are already using to solve these problems themselves. In many ways, Africas model of doing more with less of working around dysfunctional institutions to establish strong informal networks can be a powerful model for the rest of the world. Behind the dire headlines, Olopade discovers many convincing rays of hope.

With the exception of a few iconic moments such as Rosa Parks’s 1955 refusal to move to the back of a Montgomery bus, we hear little about what black women activists did prior to 1960. Perhaps this gap is due to the severe repression that radicals of any color in America faced as early as the 1930s, and into the Red Scare of the 1950s. To be radical, and black and a woman was to be forced to the margins and consequently, these women’s stories have been deeply buried and all but forgotten by the general public and historians alike. In this exciting work of historical recovery, Dayo F. Gore unearths and examines a dynamic, extended network of black radical women during the early Cold War, including established Communist Party activists such as Claudia Jones, artists and writers such as Beulah Richardson, and lesser known organizers such as Vicki Garvin and Thelma Dale. These women were part of a black left that laid much of the groundwork for both the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and later strains of black radicalism. Radicalism at the Crossroads offers a sustained and in-depth analysis of the political thought and activism of black women radicals during the Cold War period and adds a new dimension to our understanding of this tumultuous time in United States history.

The Power of Purpose & Destiny
It can be a very dangerous, and indeed a very tragic thing to be alive and not even know the reason why. We cannot afford to journey through life without a clear understanding of divine purpose. It is important to take time to find what God's purpose is for our lives, and to stick to it. We need to stop what we're doing and inquire from God what is his counsel for our lives. "Even if a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years - even if he lives a long, long time, but cannot enjoy his prosperity - even if he were to live forever - I would say, "A stillborn child is better off than he is " (Eccl. 6:3 - NET). The Scriptures make it clear that God is the Creator, Maker, Molder, Manufacturer or Fabricator of all things. "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Gen. 1:1). We also learn from Scriptures that God is a God of purpose; He does nothing without a purpose (Isa. 14:24, 27; 43:13; 46:11). Our existence is not an accident of biology, rather, according to the Scriptures it has been purposed by God before the foundation of the world. Each of us need to discover, in dialogue with God, that there can be a meaningful plan for life. We must affirm that there is something great that we will never be able to achieve unless we align ourselves with God's purpose. Also, there is something wonderful that God will never be able to accomplish through us until we surrender to his will. There is something of ultimate importance that God wants us to achieve for Him. God has a special mission for us to perform in His name. When we come to terms with the Lord, we will know the purpose of our birth. When we discern God's mission for us, we will know what our life is all about; then and only then will our quest for meaning and fulfillment be realized. God created every one of us for a purpose (reason, intent, objective, or goal). Therefore, the greatest tragedy in life is not really death, but life without a sense of purpose. It is tragic to be alive, and not even know why. APOSTLE DAYO BROWN, Ph.D.

Prayer is that one thing that almost everybody does at one time or the other. Muslims do it, Buddhists do it, Hindus do it, heathens do it, Christians do it, and even pagans do it. The principle of Christian prayer is based primarily on God's commitment to his Word. Every Word that God speaks is also a law to him, and he will subject himself to his promises and decrees because of his integrity. The Scriptures reveal that man has been given the authority and prerogative to determine what happens in the earth realm. In all of God's dealings with mankind, we will see that he has never done anything on earth without the cooperation of a person. Every action of God in the earth realm has always required the involvement of a human being. God needed Noah in order to rescue humanity in the flood. He needed Abraham for the creation of the nation of Israel. He needed Moses to lead the nation of Israel to the land of promise. He needed Daniel to bring back Israel from captivity. To defeat Jericho, he needed Joshua. For the preservation of the Jews, he needed Esther. For the Salvation of mankind, he himself needed to become a man. God does nothing but in answer to the prayers of man. The corruptions that had crept into the duty of prayer among the Jews were so many that Jesus saw it needful to give a new directory for prayer, to show his disciples what must ordinarily be the matter and method of their prayer. This he gave in words that could be used as a format because the contents included the several particulars of our prayers. This matchless prayer revealed in Matthew chapter 6 was given not only as a model, but also as a form. After Jesus had condemned what was amiss, he directed us to do better because it is obvious that we know not what to pray for as we ought, but here he helps our infirmities, by putting words into our mouths; "...after this manner therefore pray ye" (Mat. 6:9). He who best knew what we ought to pray for, and how we ought to pray; what matter of desire, and what manner of address would most please himself. Jesus therefore here dictated to us a most perfect and universal form of prayer, comprising all our real wants, expressing all our lawful desires; a complete directory and full exercise of all our devotions. This prayer is indeed our Lord's prayer; it is of his composing, and of his appointing; it is very compendious, yet very comprehensive, and very compassionate.
Journey Through the Tabernacle
It is very important that the believer places value and emphasis on where God does, such as on the Tabernacle, His dwelling place. It was always God's desire to dwell with and among His people on His own terms. A closer look at the Scriptures will show a progressive revelation regarding the "Dwelling places" of God beginning from the Garden of Eden and ending with the Ultimate City of God. The Tabernacle was actually a Figure of the True Tabernacle, Jesus Christ. All things in the Tabernacle were Types and Shadows of that which was to come, even Christ Himself. In this book there is a detailed searching out of matters concerning the Tabernacle, God's dwelling place. With the help of the Holy Ghost who is the Spirit of revelation, the connection between New Testament Redemption and the Tabernacle of Moses is revealed in a very profound and exegetical way. "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter." (Pr. 25:2 - KJV).

The Holy Ghost is the Author of the Scriptures; therefore, when we have any questions or confusions regarding the Word of God, we cannot really ask the 'writer' what he meant when he wrote what he wrote. Rather, our questions must be directed at the One who "moved" or inspired the writer to write what he wrote. Only the Holy Ghost knows the 'intent' behind the written word. He had something in mind every time he moved the saints of old to write. Again, when we need clarification on what was in God's mind when he said what he said, we must go back to inquire from the Spirit of God. Jesus declared that the words he spoke were both "Spirit" and "life." (John 6:63). The Scriptures further declare that the "letter" killeth, but the ''Spirit" giveth life (2 Cor. 3:6). Every time the Word goes forth, it is always backed up by breath or Spirit (Gen. 1:2-3). Behind every Word, there is always breath (ruach in the Hebrew language; which translates to mean wind, spirit, or breath). As serious-minded Bible students therefore, we must always go beyond the mere written words on the pages of the Bible, to inquire from the Lord for both the intent, and the Spirit behind every written Word. This is how to get the most out of the Scriptures. This training manual will take you, the reader, beyond the shallow waters, and beyond the letter of the word; it will launch you into the Spirit behind the word, the intent, the integrity and immutability of the Word of God. By divine design, God expects every one of his children to end up serving him by using their God-given potentials. The problem with this is that many believers lack the proper training and equipping necessary to render quality (or reasonable) service to God. We must realize that not every service attracts a reward from the Lord (Rom. 12:1). There is a "how to serve God." It is not just enough to know "what" you desire to do or "why" you desire to do it; until you know "how" to do it, then no quality work will be done. Gehazi rendered "unreasonable" service and received leprosy instead of a mantle from his mentor The burden of many Pastors and ministry leaders would be reduced somewhat if only they had a competent, well trained, spiritually furnished, and of course, a faithful, loyal work force. Many ministry leaders are stressed and burnt out; many are being betrayed, maligned, slandered, and just generally stabbed in the back by supposed followers and proteges. The problem here seems to be that there is a lack of clarity or understanding of the things expected of the prot g , and of course the mentors too. This therefore leaves room for a lot of chaos and confusion in the household of God. The Lord has so ordained that at various times, God-given mentors will enter and exit our lives. God would normally place someone who has submitted to him in discipleship under one of His servants as a human 'discipler', coach or mentor. During this period, the disciple will be taught in different ways while God sits down to watch keenly your progress under your earthly 'discipler'. This he uses as a yardstick to evaluate you, to see whether you are qualified to hold trust for Him. A mentor can be the difference between poverty and prosperity, decrease and increase, loss and gain, pain and pleasure, deterioration, and restoration. This book will take you, the reader, beyond the shallow waters, and beyond the letter of the word; it will launch you into the Spirit behind the word. It will reveal to you the intent, the integrity and immutability of the Word of God when it comes to biblical mentoring, and armor-bearing. Get ready Get ready Get ready APOSTLE (DR.) DAYO BROWN.
A Young Ministers' Training Manual
By divine design, God expects every one of his children to end up working for him and serving him by using their God-given potentials. The problem with this is that many of the brethren lack the proper training and equipping necessary to render quality (or reasonable) service to God. We must realize that not every service attracts a reward from the Lord (Rom. 12:1). There is a "how to serve God." It is not just enough to know "what" you desire to do or "why" you desire to do it; until you know "how" to do it, then no quality work will be done. The burden of many Pastors and ministry leaders would be reduced somewhat if only they had a competent, well trained, and spiritually furnished work force. By the leading of the Holy Spirit, I have over a period of more than 30 years developed this quality Leadership Training Manual for Church and Ministry workers. I have been blessed and privileged to have conducted several Training Seminars and Workshops for leaders in hundreds of churches across the USA, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The subjects covered in this manual are designed to be very practical, and to prepare a people who are prepared to serve their generation. The aim is to equip men for real impact in ministry, and to furnish the spirit, soul, and body ready for qualitative kingdom service. More than a mere head knowledge of theology, and a paper certificate in the hand, this training manual is a hands-on drill for excellence in everyday ministry. APOSTLE (DR.) DAYO BROWN.
Prayer and Spiritual Warfare Training Manual
The true believer is a soldier and must be seen as such from the day of his conversion to the day of his death. He must not live a life of religious ease, nor must he imagine that he can afford to sleep or doze on the way to heaven. This warfare would be unnecessary if man had a nature like that of an angel; and if he were never a fallen creature; but with a corrupted heart, a busy devil, and an ensnaring world, he must either fight or perish. Necessity is laid upon us; we must contend. In order to secure a complete and a permanent victory in this battle, the believer must be fully clad in the whole armor of God, because only a spiritual armor would suffice in a spiritual warfare. "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;). For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." (2 Corinthians 10:4; 1 John 5:4 - KJV). Any deviation from the counsels of God will ultimately lead to defeat, spiritual darkness, sorrow, enslavement, and regret. God's express command is that we should put on the whole armor; failure to do so amounts to deviation from His divine counsel. A believer without the armor is exposed to all the whims and caprices of the devil. He is like a city that is broken down and without walls. He is like a building without a roof, windows or doors. He is wide open to the adverse effects of weather, and is infested with all sorts of dangerous creatures. He is unstable, aimless, helpless and hopeless. Any believer who neglects the divine instruction to put on and utilize spiritual armor exposes himself to the harrowing experiences of the unsaved and the unregenerate. Every believer must therefore get himself fully acquainted with these heaven-sent resources in order to thrive in this spiritually hostile world we live in. This Manual is a powerful tool for every believer who would war a good warfare. APOSTLE DR. DAYO BROWN.
