Depuis une vingtaine d'ann es il se fait, peu peu, un travail de r habilitation en tout ce qui concerne l'empire chr tien d'Orient. Les expressions de byzantinisme, de bas-empire n'ont, il est vrai, rien perdu de leur signification m prisante. Toutefois, on commence mieux appr cier ce qu'a t le monde byzantin, tudier d'une mani re plus approfondie l'histoire de l'empire grec. Les pr jug s, travers lesquels on l'a pendant si longtemps vu, se dissipent graduellement. En France, aussi bien qu'ailleurs, des travaux importants ont t consacr s diverses phases de ce pass jusqu'ici si m connu. Le succ s de quelques-uns de ces crits a trouv un cho au-del m me du public limit auquel ils s'adressaient. Non pas que les choses byzantines soient encore la mode; mais il semble qu'il ne s'en faut pas de beaucoup. L' tude de cette p riode historique nous r serve bien des surprises. Ancient scholarship had many faces, but most have faded away over time. Demetrios of Scepsis is one of the more shadowy of these lost figures, best known for his commentary on the Trojan Catalogue in Book 2 of the Iliad. Alexandra Trachsel’s work represents the first treatment dedicated to Demetrios of Scepsis in over a century. Because of the incomplete transmission of Demetrios’s work, Trachsel necessarily focuses on the way later readers understood the ancient author’s engagement with the Homeric text. Indeed, modern scholars have access to Demetrios’s analysis of the Trojan Catalogue only through their readings.Trachsel’s work offers a thorough analysis of the ancient and modern reactions to Demetrios’s research into the Homeric text and the Trojan landscape, and it revisits the ongoing debate about the setting for Homer’s Trojan poem. Trachsel also provides new evidence about the impressively wide range of other topics Demetrios’s work may have contained.

Demetrios Kydones, Staatsmann in leitender Position unter zwei Kaisern des spaten Byzanz (14. Jh.), hinterliess ein vielfaltiges literarisches Werk in der altgriechischen Literatensprache der Byzantiner, darunter Reden politischen Inhalts sowie theologische und philosophische Traktate. Besonders hervorzuheben sind seine Ubersetzungen lateinischer theologischer Werke, darunter die Summen des Thomas von Aquin, und zahlreiche (ca. 450) Privatbriefe zu einer weiten Palette von Themen, die erstmals 1956/60 von R.-J. Loenertz vollstandig ediert wurden. Franz Tinnefeld hat dieses Briefcorpus in den Jahren 1981 bis 2003 ins Deutsche ubertragen und mit einem ausfuhrlichen Kommentar versehen. Auf der Basis dieser Ubersetzung legt er nun eine nach Themen gegliederte literarische Analyse der Briefe vor, deren biographischer Hintergrund, soweit zum Verstandnis notwendig, jeweils erlautert wird. Der Band wird erganzt durch eine Zeittafel zur Biographie des Kydones, die deutsche Ubersetzung seiner biographisch besonders wichtigen Rede an Kaiser Johannes V. und ausfuhrliche Indices (Briefliste, Personen, Orte und Sachen).

The theory of nonlinear oscillations and stability of motion is a fundamental part of the study of numerous real world phenomena. These phenomena, particularly auto-oscillations of the first and second kind, capture, para metric, subharmonic and ultraharmonic resonance, asymptotic behavior and orbits' stability, constitute the core of problems treated in "Nonlinear Mechanics", and their study is connected with the names of H. Poincare, A. M. Lyapunov, N. M. Krylov and N. N. Bogolyubov. Professor Demetrios Magiros, a widely known scientist in the theories of oscillations and nonlinear differential equations, has devoted his numerous works to this significant part of modern physical science. His scientific results can be classified in the following way: I) creation of methods of analysis of subharmonic resonances under the nonlinear effect, 2) determination and analysis of the main modes of nonlinear oscillations on the basis of infinite determinants, 3) analysis of problems of celestial mechanics, 4) classification of stability of solutions of dynamic systems concepts, 5) mathematical analogs of physical and social systems. He has developed new methods and solutions for a great number of difficult problems of nonlinear mechanics making a significant contri bution to the theory and applications of the field. Urgency, depth of perception of the considered phenomena, and practi cal directness are characteristics of his work.

Jh.) ergangen sind. Einen grossen Teil unter diesen Entscheidungen und Gutachten stellen diejenigen dar, die Eheangelegenheiten, vornehmlich Ehescheidungen bzw. Eheannullierungen zum Gegenstand haben. Der Verfasser ubernimmt in dieser Arbeit die Aufgabe, die juristischen Probleme der einzelnen Scheidungsfalle zu kommentieren sowie eine Gesamtdarstellung des vorhandenen Materials aus rechtshistorischer Perspektive wiederzugeben."
