Abstractions: Paintings by Derya Ozes
Theme's Derya's paintings are abstract expressions of singular moments. While she paints in bold and cathartic expressions, she is equally compelled painting soft, nostalgic, and mysterious effects. Derya's pieces focus the audience on a journey that explores emotions of love, joy, sadness, and grief and longing. Art Titles Due to her multi-lingual background, Derya's conceptualization of a moment is strongly influenced by her verbal reasoning and linguistic expressions. For example, while in the English language there is one word for "beautiful", in Turkish there are six variants. Because these variants do not have exact English translations, Derya uses the Turkish variant in the title and describes the piece in English through her poetry. This introduction invites the perceiver to explore familiar emotions using unfamiliar linguistic reasoning. Style Derya uses geometrism and impressionism to invite an exploration surrealist perspective of space, time, and emotion. While rigid structures from geometrism expand and contract the perception of space, impressionistic soft colors and blended brush strokes evoke movement and stillness within this space. The viewer is then drawn into an exploration of time influenced and highlighted by the experience of surroundings, color, movement and stillness. Color Derya's use of metallic hues among soft tones creates a contradiction of color and style. As these effects highlight accents within an area, the viewer is invited to a psychic exploration that question thought and emotion bounded by the shared space.

Taking a fresh and imaginative approach to the topic, Enlightenment Reformation investigates how and why Hutchinsonianism came into being, evolved and eventually ended. In surveying the history of this intellectual movement, it explores the controversies in and around religion that sat at the very centre of the Enlightenment period in Britain. During the eighteenth century, many opponents of Isaac Newton's cosmology and natural religion gravitated to the writings of John Hutchinson (1674–1737). United by a strong belief in the Christian Trinity and a particular approach to the reading of Hebrew Biblical texts, the essential tenets of Hutchinsonianism remained for over a century the main source of opposition to Enlightenment scientific theories. Integrating the various aspects of Hutchinsonianism that together help to define the movement, this book first critiques the existing historiography on the subject and second provides an overview of the movement’s thought, growth and downfall. This volume offers a fascinating perspective on the role of religion, science and ecclesiastical history in eighteenth-century thought and will be valuable reading for scholars working in intellectual and cultural history, in particular the history of philosophy, legal history, education and the relationship between church and state in the early modern period.

Minorities and Nationalism in Turkish Law
Examining the on-going dilemma of the management of diversity in Turkey from a historical and legal perspective, this book argues that the state’s failure to accommodate ethno-religious diversity is attributable to the founding philosophy of Turkish nationalism and its heavy penetration into the socio-political and legal fibre of the country. It examines the articulation and influence of the founding principle in law and in the higher courts’ jurisprudence in relation to the concepts of nation, citizenship, and minorities. In so doing, it adopts a sceptical approach to the claim that Turkey has a civic nationalist state, not least on the grounds that the legal system is generously littered by references to the Turkish ethnie and to Sunni Islam. Also arguing that the nationalist stance of the Turkish state and legal system has created a legal discourse which is at odds with the justification of minority protection given in international law, this book demonstrates that a reconstruction of the founding philosophy of the state and the legal system is necessary, without which any solution to the dilemmas of managing diversity would be inadequate. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, this timely book will interest those engaged in the fields of Middle Eastern, Islamic, Ottoman and Turkish studies, as well as those working on human rights and international law and nationalism.

At His Feet: Drawing Closer to Christ with the Women of the New Testament
Every one of us has some distance to go when it comes to our relationship with Christ. As twenty-first-century women, it often seems that the challenges of our modern lives make it even more difficult to live an authentic friendship with him. Thankfully, we have the lasting examples of women in the New Testament to show us how to draw close to Jesus, no matter what our circumstances might be. At His Feet is written for the woman who desires to rest in the peace of the Lord. This Bible study, specifically designed for women, helps us surrender to God's will and, in doing so, find the true freedom that only our Savior can offer. Like us, the New Testament women featured in this study knew what it meant to struggle with the burdens of life and with their own sinfulness. But when they encountered Jesus, their lives were changed forever. Like the women of the New Testament, we can bring Jesus our burdens and receive his healing, his love, and his grace. We, too, can experience the life-changing power of drawing close to him and resting in his love. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born and raised in Turkey, Derya Little rejected her family's Islamic faith and became an atheist after her parents' divorce. During her stormy adolescence, she tried to convince a Christian missionary that there is no God but was converted to Christianity instead. During her doctoral studies in England, she entered the Catholic Church.
