¡A explorar! is a 3-level Spanish course designed to meet the requirements of secondary school curriculums throughout the Caribbean. The Workbooks are designed to complement the Student’s Books by providing additional material for practice and reinforcement. Following the structure of the Student’s Book, the Workbook gives students the opportunity to practise the grammar and vocabulary of each topic-based units, as well as reading, writing and speaking skills. Each unit comprises a variety of exercises carefully designed to consolidate and reinforce language. The Workbook can be used in class or at home, and activities are equally suited to extension work in class or as exercises set for homework. The units include a range of activity types, including multiple choice questions to help prepare students for the types of questions they may later encounter in exams. Cross-references to the Grammar section of the Student’s Book are provided where appropriate so that students can refer to this for support and revision. As well as following the unit structure of the Student’s Book, the Workbook also includes two test sections – one for mid-year and one for an end-of-year test – which can be used for exam practice. The course uses Latin American Spanish vocabulary throughout, and informative notes in the about variants found within Latin America and the Caribbean are included in the Teacher’s Guides.

The Making of Revolutionary Feminism in El Salvador

The Making of Revolutionary Feminism in El Salvador tells the stories of rural and working-class women who fought to overthrow capitalism, patriarchy, and US imperialism. Covering five decades of struggle from 1965 to 2015, Diana Carolina Sierra Becerra weaves oral histories with understudied archival sources to illustrate how women developed a revolutionary theory and practice to win liberation. A multigenerational movement of women broke with patriarchal tradition. In the 1960s and 1970s, teachers and peasant women led militant class struggle against the landed oligarchy and military dictatorships. Women took up arms in the 1980s to survive US-backed state terror and built a revolution that bridged socialism and women's liberation. In the guerrilla territories, combatants and civilians politicized reproductive labor and created democratic institutions to meet the needs of the poor. Highlighting women's agency, Sierra Becerra challenges dominant narratives of revolutionary movements as monolithic, static, and dominated by urban men.

Indigenous Responses to Mining in Post-Conflict Colombia

Indigenous Responses to Mining in Post-Conflict Colombia

This book examines Indigenous responses to mining and their connection to peacebuilding, focusing on the experience of the Nasa Indigenous people of North Cauca during the most recent Colombian post-agreement transition.Amid an armed conflict that has disproportionally affected and targeted the Nasa, as well as ongoing processes of dispossession and oppression, the Nasa have built a tradition of organised, peaceful resistance. This book examines the nature of their responses to mining and how this is linked to peacebuilding, with a focus on how resistance is shaped and enacted to respond to the relationship mineral extraction has with violence and peace. The work is exploratory, ethnographic and interdisciplinary in nature, sitting in the intersection between the anthropology of mining, development studies and peace and conflict studies. The author presents and analyses narratives, participant responses, and her own experiences to illustrate the context and interconnected processes shaping Nasa responses to mining during this transition period. The book will bring international readers closer to these intricate dynamics, where access is otherwise limited because of security, cultural, linguistic and other barriers. The book provides a novel perspective on post-conflict mining governance by focusing on the Nasa’s active role in responding to mining in a post-agreement, transitional context. It highlights, and encourages engagement with, the often-overlooked role of morality in debates about nature and development. This book will be of great interest to students, scholars and practitioners of the extractive industries, natural resource management, conflict management and peacebuilding, Indigenous Peoples and Latin American studies.
