Veronica's Veil: Poems, Prayers, and Promises of the Holy Face Devotion
Who is Saint Veronica? She is called Veronica, the compassionate woman who took pity on Christ when she saw him fall beneath the weight of the wooden cross, and who watched his bloody body racked from torture, his face covered with blood, sweat, and spittle as he carried that same cross up the hill to Calvary to die. Courageously, using her veil to wipe away the blood and muck, she was rewarded by the image of his face impressed upon the cloth, a sign of Jesus' gratitude for her mercy. But who was she, and where did she come from? The Catholic Church says she is a Saint whose Feast Day is celebrated February 4th, and she is recognized as the woman in the sixth Station of the Cross. BUT THERE IS SO MUCH MORE
Our Souls, They Are Not Dead!: Poems, Prayers, and Promises for the Poor Souls in Pugatory
They are called the Poor Souls in Purgatory for a reason. It is because they are the souls of people who have died in a state of grace, but who are not able to enter heaven yet because they owe a debt of temporal punishment due for their sins which have been forgiven. The Poor Souls cannot pray, offer sacrifice, or give suffrages for themselves. There is nothing that they can do to merit any relief from the pains that they experience in purgatory. They are called the Church Suffering, and they covet the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, our prayers, fasting, sacrifices, and almsgiving in atonement to help relieve their pain. Holy Mother Church exhorts us that when we offer our sufferings, united with the Passion of Christ, and apply it to the Poor Souls, that it may cause their relief or release and entrance into Heaven.
Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement

Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement

The story of the American Quilt Trail, featuring the colorful patterns of quilt squares painted large on barns throughout North America, is the story of one of the fastest-growing grassroots public arts movements in the United States and Canada. In Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement Suzi Parron takes us to twenty-five states as well as Canada to visit the people and places that have put this movement on America's tourist and folk art map. Through dozens of interviews with barn quilt artists, committee members, and barn owners, Parron documents a journey that began in 2001 with the founder of the movement, Donna Sue Groves. Groves's desire to honor her mother with a quilt square painted on their barn became a group effort that eventually grew into a county-wide project. Today, quilt squares form a long imaginary clothesline, appearing on more than three thousand barns scattered along one hundred and twenty driving trails. With more than eighty full-color photographs, Parron documents here a movement that combines rural economic development with an American folk art phenomenon.

When Thomas MacDonald, a somewhat dull thirty-something bookstore clerk, finds three suitcases near a dumpster, he has no idea of the adventures ahead of him. He swiftly discovers that his new-found baggage is a time-travel portal, one that seems to have a purpose to its destinations into the past. But what is it? And how does his new-found love fit in? Should he tell her about his travels? Will she think he has lost his mind? Or maybe, just maybe, they might figure out how to use those suitcases to their advantage. During the COVID-19 pandemic, three writers began searching for a way to beat the "stay at home" blahs. They began work on a series of short stories, wherein each would write the beginning of a story, pass it on to the second, who passed it on to the third. At the end of the week, they met on Zoom and shared their work. One of those stories just kept growing and became the novella, Baggage. Enjoy

What defines a woman? Is it the tone of her voice, or the small of her back? Does her ability to self-sacrifice come into play? DONNA is a deeply-emotional poetry collection that explores the themes of womanhood, manhood, and spirituality. It's divided into three chapters: Sex refers to the sex-based oppression that all women suffer from.Wisdom represents the life lessons gained from growing into a fully-matured woman.Servitude relates to the author's spirituality and submitting to a higher power.

Donna Reed has been called everyone's favorite mother and her recognition as such has stood the test of time. But before she became known as the ultimate mom for her role on The Donna Reed Show, Miss Reed was already a veteran film actress with almost forty films to her credit. Among these are her performances in It's a Wonderful Life and From Here to Eternity. Her role in the latter garnered her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. This book is a comprehensive reference to the life and work of Donna Reed for use by researchers as well as fans. Performing arts researcher Brenda Scott Royce has compiled a self-contained reference work to Donna Reed's career and life. A brief biography begins the book, followed by detailed examinations of Miss Reed's work in motion pictures, television, and radio. Also listed are media reviews of her work, a listing of awards and nominations, and a chronology of major events in her life. An annotated bibliography follows these sections, and it lists all articles and other items about Donna Reed that appeared in major magazines, fan magazines, books, and newspapers. The entries in each section are cross-referenced for easy referral by the reader. This bio-bibliography will be an important addition to libraries with a performing arts collection, students of media arts, and Donna Reed fans.
