Through a framework of traditional tales, fantastic creatures struggle with issues of marginalization, opening discussion for parents and children in an accessible form. The Tales Of Dwipa is a collection of short stories adapted from the Panchatantra, a collection of simple, engaging, and interrelated animal tales penned by Pandit Vishnu Sharma in the hopes of awakening the dim intelligence of a powerful Indian king's idle sons. The ancient stories of the Panchatantra still find meaning in today's world despite originating in India before 300 BCE. These stories are set in a Canadian context with topical themes, bringing together two distinct cultures-Indian and Canadian-for the most impressionable minds of our society.

"Daddadil o Koka", Krokodilen och Kapten Krok, kom att bli Isidors, mitt barnbarns, favoritscen i Peter Pan (filmen). Som treåring var han besatt av krokodiler och ville se den scenen om och om igen, helst med en leksakskrokodil i vardera handen. Det var en högtidsstund varje gång. Ungefär samtidigt hade han en period då han tyckte om att lägga till "Boom" efter viktiga ord. Mamma Boom, Pappa Boom, Mommo Boom. Så föddes våra figurer Daddadil och Pappa Boom som vi fantiserade om tillsammans. Och så kom sagan om Daddadil, Pappa Boom & Dija till, för honom och hans vänner (barn från 4-5 år och uppåt). Han fick den i fyra-årspresent. Mitt mål var att skriva en saga där barnen skulle lära sig lite fakta om krokodiler och andra djur. Lite om länder och olika språk. Jag ville framhålla vikten av positivt tänkande och framförallt positivt handlande för att lösa problem. Jag ville låta dem förstå att vänligt bemötande är betydelsefullt för att vi ska trivas med och lita på varandra. Likaså att man vinner respekt genom att stå upp för dem som är svagare än en själv. Välvilja och vänlighet vinner i längden! Och: Tro på era drömmar! Som pensionerad språklärare (2013) är jag fascinerad av språk i allmänhet och framförallt små barns språkutveckling. Sagan är skriven på enkelt vuxenspråk vilket kan vara en utmaning för små barn men vilket också, förhoppningsvis, kan leda till "bra" frågor och intressanta samtal mellan barn och vuxna. An idea born in the aftermath of World War II, Grenville Baker Boys Club exemplified the newfound optimism of the time, capturing what was best in the North Shore community of Locust Valley, New York. In 1946, teens playing football by the train tracks inspired local citizenry to create a safe place for boys after school. With a combined effort across the economic and social spectrum, the project gained momentum. By 1950, Edith Kane Baker, widow of George F. Baker, bestowed the funds to build a clubhouse in memory of her son Grenville, establishing the first nationally affiliated boys club on Long Island. She was soon joined by her neighbors, the Pratts, Doubledays, Smithers, and others, along with a cadre of committed professionals and volunteers. Over the decades, the club has grown, welcoming girls in 1981 and securing the Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club's mission for generations to come.Archivist, historian, and museum director Amy Dzija Driscoll is coauthor of Locust Valley. Attorney Carol McKey Harrington is a lifelong resident of Locust Valley and a writer for Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club. Together, they worked with staff, alumni, and friends to curate a selection of images and memories to tell their story.
