The contributors to Methods for Teaching Travel Literature and Writing: Exploring the World and Self discuss how and why they have integrated travel literature and writing into their courses. Subjects range from the study of travel literature granting insight into how travel authors, such as Bill Bryson and Paul Theroux, convince readers to "buy into" their worlds and reflect the readers' positions in society, to contemplating the meanings of the words "traveler" and "tourist." Other chapters examine how actual traveling can shape students' writing and vice versa, whereas still others address how the study of the genre and actually writing it promotes interdisciplinarity.
Newly Widowed, Now Socially Awkward: Facing Interpersonal Challenges After Loss

As a new widow, I expected profound sadness, but was thrown off-guard by changing relationships and unexpected social awkwardness. I was upset with well-meaning people who: - offered "words of wisdom" - compared their prior losses to mine - introduced me as a widow before I was ready - failed to include me - assumed I'd be back on my feet after a year I was upset with myself for: - seeking too much sympathy - asking for help too often - responding unhappily to invitations - telling my story of loss to strangers - sharing the worst side of me with my closest friends In 45 essays, two voices describe the social challenges I encountered. My personal voice is overwhelmed with grief and my changing identity while my voice as a psychologist attempts to identify "what I can do for myself" to cope and move on.
Beyond Free College outlines an audacious national agenda—consistent with, but far more comprehensive than, the current “free college” movement—that builds on the best of US higher education’s populist history such as the G.I. Bill and the community college transfer function. The authors align a wide constellation of higher education trends—online learning, prior learning assessment, competency-based learning, high school college-credit— with a rapidly shifting student transfer environment that privileges college credit as the pivotal educational catalyst to boost access and completion. The book’s agenda seeks greater productive investment in postsecondary education by privileging a single metric—lower-cost-per-degree-granted—as the animating driver of a transfer pathway that will fulfill the potential of its historical, progressive innovators. Beyond Free College’s goal is as simple as it is urgent: To galvanize higher education advocates in an effort to reorganize, reorient, and reignite the transfer function to serve the needs of a neotraditional student population that now constitutes the majority of college-goers in America; and in ways that advance completion, not just access to higher education.

This study aims to assess in the hotel industry's retention management of the rank-and-file employees in terms of the demographic profiles and the level of influence and level of importance of the success factors of selected major hotels operating in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates as assessed by the managers. The descriptive-correlational research was applied. The researcher prepared a structured survey questionnaire. It examines the current phenomenon that happens within Abu Dhabi's hotel industry. The eight factors used throughout this study comprises of compensation and benefits, rewards and recognition, work environment and culture, recruitment and selection, career development and training, job design and work teams, performance and management evaluation, and communications. Correlation analysis tested the relationship between a profile of the respondents and their perceptions on the level of influence and level of importance of the factors of employee retention, and the difference between the perception of managers and rank-and-file employees on the level of importance and level of influence of the success factors of employee retention. The findings show that the role of the manager in the retention management of the rank-and-file employees was due to the level of influence and level of importance. As to the level of influence, the work environment and corporate culture were assessed by the managers to be the most influential success factor which was followed by performance management and evaluation, and job design and work teams. As to the level of importance, communication was assessed as the most important among all retention factors. The reason is due to good communication skill expected in the hospitality industry. Other considerations was on the recruitment and selection and performance management and evaluation. As a conclusion, the five success factors that helped the hotel industry in retaining their good employees for sustainable operations, include the work environment and corporate culture, performance management and evaluation, job design and work teams, communication, and recruitment and selection. As a result of the study, it is recommended that the hotel management should maintain the relationship of the level of influence and the level of importance with the respondents' profiles in terms of age, highest educational attainment, hotel classification, position, and years of service basing from their significance and the rejection of the hypothesis. Key Terms: Descriptive-Correlational type of Research, Level of Influence, Level of Importance, Success Factors, Retention Management, Hotel Industry in Abu Dhabi.
As a mother to six-year-old Amiyah and a therapist, when the pandemic kept us away from her Auntie, I recorded her emotions and thoughts in the year following her death. When the time was right, we sat down together and pieced together her story. These are Amiyah's words, edited by me, written into a story. There were many factors impacting the ability to process the death of a loved one during the pandemic. But the most significant of all was the lack of physical contact with loved ones and friends, family visits in hospitals and nursing homes, viewings, funerals, and for the young child, a means to make death real.
Eileen L Tapper, has written such a beautiful book about PDA, without talking directly about PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance / Persistent Drive for Autonomy), which is an autistic profile. This makes the message more accessible for so many readers of all ages. The story, 'My Daughter the Wolf, ' is about honoring one's uniqueness, recognizing the strengths, and noting the challenges of living in a world not designed for those with differences. Through the words and amazing illustrations, the need for nervous system safety is hi highlighted and that is the most important message of all.

This timely volume examines the ways in which queer and trans theory are supported by recent findings from psychological science. In it, Ella ben Hagai and Eileen Zurbriggen explore foundational ideas from queer thought and transgender theory including the instability of gender, variation in sexualities, intersectional theory, and trans writers’ rejection of the “born in the wrong body” narrative. These key ideas are juxtaposed with innovative empirical psychological research on the fluidity of gender, the proliferation of sexual identities, and transgender affirming medical and psychological care. This book explains the history and politics of key ideas shaping the study of the psychology of gender and sexuality today. It also describes the ways that the queer and trans* revolutions have changed how psychologists understand gender, sexuality, and transgender identities. It will be especially helpful for readers interested in interdisciplinary scholarship.
