Earth is destroyed. Aliens are real. Hope exists. Eliza Ross leads a quiet life. Until the alien ships drop out of nowhere and render all Eliza considered normal to dust. Thankfully, the newest addition to the Union is there to help. But the Karssians themselves are slowly dying out, and in exchange for their assistance, they make a peculiar proposal: one human woman for the Colony's continued protection. To Eliza, this sounds like a simple decision-sacrificing one for the good of the rest-and so she readily volunteers herself. Still, once on the lush planet of Karssia, she wonders if her choice wasn't made in haste. For her intended match, High Councilor Pradan E'Melkor, doesn't seem to want her. And if she can't find a way to make things work between them, what will happen to the humans in the Colony?
