This book carefully examines the motives, objectives and strategies of the major players in the global lending game: creditor governments, bank regulatory agencies, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). After outlining the interests of the debtor governments, the authors discuss the behavior of the international banks and the IMF. They offer an incisive analysis of the creditors' strategies for coping with the situation and conclude with suggested alternative solutions for resolving the crisis and for ensuring that the future will not bring more threatening debt problems.

A young girl learns a new meaning for freedom during the time of Reconstruction Ellen always knew the broom resting above the hearth was special. Before it was legal for her mother and father to officially be married, the broom was what made them a family anyway. But now all former slaves who had already been married in their hearts could register as lawful husband and wife. When Ellen and her family make the long trip to the courthouse dressed in their best, she brings the broom her parents had jumped so many years before. Even though freedom has come, Ellen knows the old traditions are important too. After Mama and Papa's names are recorded in the register, Ellen nearly bursts with pride as her parents jump the broom once again. Ellen is a wonderfully endearing character whose love for her family is brought to life in Daniel Minter's rich and eye-catching block print illustrations.

Running in and out of each other’s lives for decades, they share intimacies, family problems, triumphs and tragedies every time they meet, but can their love ever be complete?

This handwritten cookbook was created by Ellen Poulsen in the 1950's from a collection of family recipes by her mother, Marie Poulsen. Marie lived on the island of Fyn in Denmark from 1906-1995 and was a renowned pastry chef for a number of years in her younger days at the Glamsbjerg Hotel. When Ellen left Denmark as a young girl to work in England, she often came home to visit. Ellen decided it was important to preserve all the wonderful recipes her mother had created and wrote them down in her own handwriting with an extensive list in the Table of Contents. She also included some other favorites from local newspaper articles. These recipes include both old and still popular dishes from that time era, many of which are still favorites today. We hope you will enjoy them as much as we have.
