To Lead as Jesus Led

Author: ¬+ Eric G. Stephan & R. Wayne Pace Description: The world is desperately in need of selfless, Christlike leadership. The world has seen countless leaders: kings, priests, emperors, generals, preachers who led tiny flocks, and warriors who led mighty armies. Yet in all the ages of the earth, from the kings of Europe to the heads of families, a single leader stands out as the One who has had the greatest impact the world has ever known: a humble man named Jesus of Nazareth. What elements combine to create the perfect leader? Using Jesus as the example, authors Eric Stephan and R. Wayne Pace answer this question in, To Lead as Jesus Led. When their search through volumes on leadership failed to capture the essence of true leadership, they decided to turn to the scriptures. There they found the truth, and now they reveal the important elements of successful leadership. With valuable suggestions taken straight from the scriptures, they will help the reader to weed out common misconceptions about leadership and narrow the focus of what leadership really is. Readers will also learn to exercise principles of good leadership and, most important of all, take the steps necessary to becoming the kind of person others will want to follow. To Lead as Jesus Led will prove to be an important addition to the library of anyone who wishes to become more like Jesus in their associations with friends, family, and all those they come in contact with. The Army expects that the performance of ground forces can be enhanced by improving the networks that tie them together and taking advantage of their special properties. Army networks are used for command and control, intelligence, maneuver, fires, and logistics; they process, store, and transport the information used by the Army. Ultimately these networks extend into the minds of soldiers and leaders and into their interactions with each other.

Evolution of the Corporation in the United States

Evolution of the Corporation in the United States

This insightful book traces the evolution of corporate power in the United States, from social control over corporate power under early state laws to the modern liberation of the corporation serving primarily private purposes. It illustrates how the transition of attitudes towards corporations and dynamic changes in public policy have ushered in an age of financial fragility, income inequality and macroeconomic instability. The book employs an evolutionary methodology to consider the role of the corporation in the US economy, and how that role as a tool for public purposes, defined by special charters, changed with the widening of markets and increasing industrial capacity for mass production. Evaluating the stages of capitalist development, chapters demonstrate how the co-evolution of law, economics and finance altered economic organization, leading to the evolution of core economic concepts such as capital, income and resources. The book examines the transition of corporate purpose towards generating wealth and enhancing profits in the early twentieth century and analyzes recent trends through illuminating case studies in financialization. It concludes with crucial insights into the future of the corporation, offering potential pathways for economists to intervene and address the systemic problems that are endemic to the modern financial era.A rousing and provocative call to arms for modern economists, this book is key reading for scholars and researchers of economics, particularly those focusing on the evolution of economic and business institutions and its impact on the social fabric of the US. Practitioners and policymakers will also benefit from its empirical perspectives on financialization.

Critical Theory

Critical Theory

Stephen Eric Bronner

Oxford University Press Inc
2017
nidottu
Critical theory emerged in the 1920s from the work of the Frankfurt School, the circle of German-Jewish academics who sought to diagnose -- and, if at all possible, cure -- the ills of society, particularly fascism and capitalism. In this book, Stephen Eric Bronner provides sketches of leading representatives of the critical tradition (such as George Lukács and Ernst Bloch, Theodor Adorno and Walter Benjamin, Herbert Marcuse and Jurgen Habermas) as well as many of its seminal texts and empirical investigations. This Very Short Introduction sheds light on the cluster of concepts and themes that set critical theory apart from its more traditional philosophical competitors. Bronner explains and discusses concepts such as method and agency, alienation and reification, the culture industry and repressive tolerance, non-identity and utopia. He argues for the introduction of new categories and perspectives for illuminating the obstacles to progressive change and focusing upon hidden transformative possibilities. In this newly updated second edition, Bronner targets new academic interests, broadens his argument, and adapts it to a global society amid the resurgence of right-wing politics and neo-fascist movements. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.
A Rumor about the Jews

A Rumor about the Jews

Stephen Eric Bronner

Oxford University Press Inc
2007
nidottu
In its portrayal of Judaism as a worldwide conspiracy dedicated to the destruction of Christian civilization, the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion remains one of the most infamous documents ever written. Despite being proven a crude forgery, the pamphlet managed to pervade twentieth-century thinking, often being twisted to suit its handlers' purposes, and to justify the most extreme persecution of the Jews. As recently as 2002, a documentary was aired in Egypt falsely presenting the Protocols as fact--and the Protocols is still regarded as a historical document in many other parts of the world. In A Rumor About the Jews, Stephen Eric Bronner systematically debunks the antisemitic assertions made in the Protocols. He also explores its history, its influence on right-wing movements throughout the twentieth century, and the ongoing appeal of bigotry. A work of intellectual history, A Rumor About the Jews takes the reader on a historical journey that provides a new and deeper understanding of an insidious ideology and its broader implications. Bronner's sharp and penetrating analysis offers new insights into the nature of antisemitism, along with a warning against underestimating the power of this hateful tract.

Socialism Unbound

Socialism Unbound

Published more than twenty years ago, Stephen Eric Bronner's bold defense of socialism remains a seminal text for our time. Treating socialism as an ethic, reinterpreting its core categories, and critically confronting its early foundations, Bronner's work offers a reinvigorated "class ideal" and a new perspective for progressive politics in the twentieth century. Socialism Unbound is an extraordinary work of political history that revisits the pivotal figures of the labor movement: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Karl Kautsky, Vladimir Lenin, and Rosa Luxemburg. Examining their contributions as well as their flaws, Bronner shows how critical innovation gave way to dogma. New practical problems have arisen, and this volume engages with the relationship between class and social movements, institutional accountability and democratic participation, economic justice and market imperatives, and internationalism and identity. With a foreword by Dick Howard and a new introduction by the author, Bronner's classic study remains indispensable for scholars and activists alike.
