1000 tulosta hakusanalla Evan C. Keliher
Author/satirist Evan Keliher earned a Doctorate in Education and worked as a teacher and administrator in Detroit's Public Schools for thirty years. During his long career Dr. Keliher endured curses, insults, physical threats, and death threats (from students and parents alike) and yet survived the ordeal and won that coveted pension while still in one piece. He has chronicled his experiences in hopes others may profit from them and help change the public schools into the places they were meant to be. Guerrilla Warfare for Teachers is a satire and meant to entertain even as it informs.
Civil Wars and Reconstructions in the Americas
Evan C. Rothera
LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY PRESS

In the latter half of the nineteenth century, three violent national conflicts rocked the Americas: the Wars of Unification in Argentina, the War of the Reform and French Intervention in Mexico, and the Civil War in the United States. The recovery efforts that followed reshaped the Western Hemisphere. In Civil Wars and Reconstructions in the Americas, Evan C. Rothera uses both transnational and comparative methodologies to highlight similarities and differences among the wars and reconstructions in the US, Mexico, and Argentina. In doing so, he uncovers a new history that stresses the degree to which cooperation and collaboration, rather than antagonism and discord, characterized the relationships among the three countries. This study serves as a unique assessment of a crucial period in the history of the Americas and speaks to the perpetual battle between visions of international partnership and isolation.

A New Canon is the first book to provide a framework for designing and utilizing rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum to address the lack of representation for marginalized communities in formal education. Grounded in literature around cultural relevance and responsive teaching practice, the book provides step-by-step guidance for curriculum development that connects students to the intellectual traditions of their communities. Evan C. Gutierrez outlines a design process that makes asset-based pedagogy actionable and curriculum development equitable. Inspired by the College, Career and Civic Life Framework for Social Studies, the process is currently in use across the country with educators creating new projects around authentic questions relevant to Black, Latinx, LGBTQ, or other marginalized communities. Modular and interdisciplinary in nature, these units can be used as part of an existing course or in combination to create new courses in English language arts, social studies and the humanities. Educators using this process nationally report observing students engage deeply with authentic questions and take more ownership over their own learning.A New Canon provides a powerful call to action for educators to ensure that all students will have an opportunity to learn about the intellectual traditions of their communities and, together, build a new foundation for learning in the humanities.

Understanding Sexual Offending

Addressing common myths and misconceptions about sexual offending, this book highlights the current state of scientific knowledge about the origins and the development of sexual offending. It offers a critical overview of current criminal justice policies and close to 100 years of research on how to best improve these policies through theoretically-grounded and methodologically-rigorous research. Focusing on proactive prevention-oriented strategies, this book revisits popular ideas about sexual offending through an evidence-based lens, addressing ideological and populist discourse that has led to ineffective and reactive policies. It advocates for a clearly defined concept of the phenomenon of sexual offending to underpin research and treatment. Uniquely, authors consider sexual offending from the viewpoint of criminal justice research and practitioners, incorporating the sociohistorical construction of sexual offending as a social problem, developmental life course research, and the impact of social policies. This book is a call for more proactive research on the origins and the development of sexual offending over the life course.

Gas Phase Chromatography of Steroids

Few fields have advanced faster over the past quinquennium than separation and estimation of steroids by the technique of gas phase chromatography. A detailed and complete review of this topic would therefore be beyond the scope of the authors contributing to this monograph. It was, however, felt that a discussion of some of the highlights of this rapid advance might be of help for laboratories estimating steroids in biological samples. One of the difficulties in producing a monograph of this kind is that before it can appear in print it is likely that some of the methods it discusses will have been overtaken by better methods, so swiftly is progress now made. No editorial power has been exercised in trying to make a uni form account of technology in this field, and the idiosyncrasies of each individual author have been left intact. Through this approach we hope that what has been lost in scholarly appearance is regained in general appeal.
From the wandering mind of a recent Master of Architecture graduate, Travel like an Architect: The Basics, Kids' Edition focuses on introducing young children to the world of architecture by encouraging them to be observant and draw the world around them. C Evan H writes and illustrates how architecture tells stories, and why the buildings just around the block can be as beautiful as those across the globe. Everyone sees the world differently, and everyone deserves to see the world.
Gibson's scholarly but highly readable study, written for those who already enjoy Lewis's fiction, will enhance understanding and appreciation both of the stories themselves and of their literary and theological aspects. He examines Lewis's masterful story-telling techniques and conversational style, anyalyzes plot structure and point of view, and traces the development of main characters through the action and narrative. He also defines and discusses the important themes in Lewis's work -- the nature of divinity, the nature of evil, and the virtuous life. Throughout his study, Gibson sees Lewis as both poet and logician -- a poet for his ability to portray the delightful landscapes of his stories, and a logician for his carefully structured story-telling technique. He is, as Gibson clearly shows, a first-rate craftsman -- indeed, a spinner of tales.
