William MacCullum Clow was born in 1853 in Glasgow, Scotland. Early on, his family lived in Auckland, New Zealand and he went to school there. But when he was seventeen years old, he and his family were living at 159 North Street, Glasgow, Scotland. His father, Andrew Clow, age 51, was a successful Master Carpenter who had several men in his employ, and his mother, Jane, was a homemaker. He had an older sister and a younger brother. William Clow dedicated his book, "Evangel of the Strait Gate" to his father and to De Witt Clinton Taylor. For "The Cross and Christian Experience" he collected twenty-five of his best sermons on the Cross. Each sermon is well organized with his main points clearly and logically stated. He supported his lessons with an abundance of Holy Scripture and with illustrations from contemporary life, history, literature and works of theology. His book shows how well-read he was in his use of allusions, citations, and references from English and American literature as well as from World literature. He was a highly educated man having received his university education from a prestigious institution. He also studied the Holy Scriptures on his own. From his personal study, he reflected on the things he gleaned from religious books, periodicals, and lectures. He was true to the scriptures and true to the message of the Cross. Upon reading The Cross and Christian Experience" Dr. W. H. Griffith Thomas wrote: "Seldom have I read a fresher or more inspiring volume of sermons, and I frankly confess that when once I started it I could hardly put it down. Mind and heart went out to the author in gratitude, and to God in thankfulness for such truly helpful teaching. ... I make bold to say that if the substance of this book were received and reproduced by the ministry of our Churches it would put iron into our blood, heart into our work, and joy into our people. . . ." Carroll Burcham is from Lubbock, Texas. Retired English teacher from Lubbock Christian University.
The Everlasting Righteousness: Introduction and Annotations by Carroll F. Burcham

The Everlasting Righteousness: Introduction and Annotations by Carroll F. Burcham

At the cross the everlasting righteousness is found; human, yet divine: provided for man, and presented to him by God, for relief of conscience and justification of life. On the one word, "It is finished" as on a heavenly resting-place, weary souls sat down and were refreshed. The voice from the tree did not summon them to do, but to be satisfied with what was done. Millions of bruised consciences there found healing and peace. (Dr. Bonar wrote a hymn "By the Cross" that included these words in verse 1: By the cross of Jesus standing, Love our straitened souls expanding, Taste we now the peace and grace Health from yonder tree is flowing, Heav'nly light is on it glowing, From the blessed Suff'rer's face.)The belief of that finished work brought the sinner into favor with God; and it did not leave him in uncertainty as to this. The justifying work of Calvary was God's way, not only of bringing pardon, but of securing certainty. It was the only perfect thing which had ever been presented to God in man's behalf; and so peculiar was this perfection, that it might be used by man in his transactions with God, as if it were his own.

The Companion is a major contribution to the literary evaluation of Pound's great, but often bewildering and abstruse work, The Cantos. Available in a one-volume paperback edition for the first time, the Companion brings together in conveniently numbered glosses for each canto the most pertinent details from the vast body of work on the Cantos during the last thirty years. The Companion contains 10,421 separate glosses that include translations from eight languages, identification of all proper names and works, Pound's literary and historical allusions, and other exotica, with exegeses based upon Pound's sources. Also included is a supplementary bibliography of works on Pound, newly updated, and an alphabetized index to The Cantos.

From the beginning of time, God communed with mankind, not like he did in the beginning, but He does in the heart of man today. He also speaks when natural disasters occur to specific acts of His judgment. He is always in control of all things by his acts. The disasters we have faced have been outside of human control. They have been unpredictable and unpreventable in our pass and present time. What is God trying to say in all of this. He wants us to be stronger and be reflective of Him. That's why we have trials in our lives so we can change our ways. He is a Purifier and a Refiner, that's the kind of love he gives. He cleanses us of all unrighteousness by the blood of Jesus Christ. Refine is the message Gloria Murphy Carroll was born in Washington, D.C., and attended public schools. She has trained in biblical studies and seminars for over thirty-five years. Gloria has received much of her people knowledge on the streets of Washington, D.C., and surrounding areas, where she has nurtured people who were in despair and needed direction. She says, "It is important that every person look over their life starting from childhood, when we were very sensitive. Things may have been crucial and some hard to forget like bodily harm, ridicule because of failure, and rejection just to name a few. Take a view in your mind of these things that caused us as adults to be stand-off-ish or unfriendly and so timid. It made us hold jealousy in our hearts, and kept us from being a part of anything and so reluctant to try. We must find the root and let God refine us and He will break the chain."

Born in 1889 in the Smoky Mountains, Lem Ownby became one of the region's most recognized figures. Sight-impaired from an early age, Lem spent his life logging, bear hunting, farming and tending his beehives. He welcomed the arrival of logging operations into the pristine wilderness but became an eyewitness to the devastation it brought to land, streams and wildlife. As the last leaseholder living within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Lem became a legend, selling his honey and offering pearls of wisdom to hikers, writers and even the governor. Lem's principles remained solid, his opinions so unwavering that he once refused to entertain two Supreme Court justices. Enter the forest with author F. Carroll McMahan as he tells dramatic, fascinating and sometimes humorous stories of a man who lived truly on his own terms.
