Case Competencies in Orthopaedic Surgery is a centralized, easy-access guide to preparing for cases most commonly encountered during training. Written by expert author teams consisting of both attending surgeons and residents, it follows a technique-based format and design that summarizes the surgical steps, from room set-up to closure, of all cases relevant to the 15 categories of "Orthopaedic Surgery Case Minimums" as determined by the ACGME. Expert Consult eBook version included with purchase. This enhanced eBook experience allows you to search all of the text, figures, images, and videos from the book on a variety of devices. Forty "technique-based chapters" boast an outline format with minimal text, high-definition intraoperative figures, and original illustrations, plus annotated step-by-step videos for the majority of cases. Each chapter contains easy-to-use tables outlining the surgical steps, essential equipment, technical pearls, and common pitfalls of each case. Includes coverage of today's hot topics in orthopaedic surgery, such as fractures, arthroscopy, arthroplasty, "bread and butter" pediatric cases, and basic subspecialty cases (spine, foot and ankle, oncology, hand, shoulder, and more). Lists CPT and ICD 9/10 codes to help with case logging.

How do we reconcile the death sentence - specifically, a sentence of death that was pronounced on the 8th of May in 1987 - with our marriage, and more importantly, with eternal life? In order to answer this question, we need not only to look back, but especially, to look forward. Before we were joined in marriage, we were two people from two extremely divergent backgrounds. Frank, the only child born to affluent parents, had a childhood of privilege; Rachel, the only daughter of a couple who later divorced, had a childhood racked with difficulties. In spite of the difficulties, Rachel became "one of us" - a hard-working American with a kind and gentle heart and a rock-solid belief in God. Despite the privileges and the affluence, Frank's "choices" - some that he made and some that had been foisted upon him - led him down the dark trail that ended, eventually, on Death Row in an Arizona prison. The stories of our lives are the stories of the two very different people, who, several years after the death sentence had been pronounced, were married on December 17, 1991. They are the stories of how Rachel become "one of us" and of how Frank's "choices" led him so far astray. They are the stories of how we met and married; but they go further, for they are the stories that explain how each of us discovered Orthodoxy and came to be Eastern Orthodox Christians, and especially, of how the trajectory of our lives has so completely changed. Merely being Orthodox Christians can never be enough; we have learned to lead lives of prayer, repentance, and most of all, hope. With our hope firmly grounded in our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we look forward to life in Him, because only in Him are all things possible. We must emphasize that we did not "become one" upon our marriage, but years later. Through our individual life experiences and through our shared experiences, we have learned, at last, what is meant by "And The Two Shall Become One". At the request of clergy near and dear to us, we offer these, first, our individual and then, our shared experiences to the scrutiny and prayers of all who read them. And we pray, always for the salvation of all.
British Racial Discourse

British Racial Discourse

This book, first published in 1983, examines why people prefer to talk about immigrants or ethnic minorities when they are referring to differences marked not by the migratory process of ethnicity, but by skin colour. How, without mentioning racial criteria, have politicians managed to introduce immigration controls deliberately aimed at reducing the number of black migrants? This book identifies a central feature of British political life: the ability to justify racially discriminatory behaviour without recourse to explicit racist language. It gives an account of British racial ideology as it is practically experienced in the form of political discourse and helps to provide a theoretical understanding of its relationship to the social structure as a whole and in particular its relationship to inter- and intra-class divisions. The author argues that traditional class-based ideologies are perfectly capable of supporting racially oppressive institutions and have far better 'protective' properties than expressions of overt racism. As a result, the objective structures of British race relations are obscured by a facade of 'deracialised ideology'.

The Aboriginal Question: Australian Racial Politics of Indigenous Recognition and Anglo De-recognition
In this new set of essays, Frank Salter dissects indigenous claims using research on ethnicity and nationalism and biological information about race differences. The same multicultural elites promoting the subordination and replacement of the historic Anglo nation also encourage the break-up of Australia by an emerging Aboriginal irredentist movement. The multicultural establishment supports extreme indigenous demands - for continental-scale land claims, permanent tax-payer subsidies, subservience to the United Nations and alteration of the Constitution to afford privileged recognition to indigenous peoples. Governments on both sides of politics have appointed inquiries ethnically biased against mainstream Australia. The biological causes of Aboriginal disability are studiously ignored to justify affirmative discrimination and ramp-up white guilt. Salter argues that indigenous status as first peoples should be recognised in a manner compatible with the dignity of Anglo Australia as the nation that forged the nation and the Commonwealth.

How do you find love when all you've known as a child is violence and abuse? How do you find your way back from the clutches of a terrible drug addiction and stop yourself sinking deeper and deeper into a dark and debilitating depression? How do you carry on when you finally open your heart and then lose the one you love in the most tragic of circumstances?Rachel's story is a tale of triumph over adversity. Set in a tropical island paradise in the West Indies, Rachel's journey takes her away to boarding school in England and on to the Middle East for the school holidays, where she first sets eyes on Frank.Remarkably, Rachel not only finds a way to make peace with the terrible traumas of her past, but she manages to turn her life around completely and along the way, she finds love...a love she once believed was lost to her forever.
Representations of Anne Frank in American Literature
This book explores portrayals of Anne Frank in American literature, where she is often invoked, if problematically, as a means of encouraging readers to think widely about persecution, genocide, and victimisation; often in relation to gender, ethnicity, and race. It shows how literary representations of Anne Frank in America over the past 50 years reflect the continued dominance of the American dramatic adaptations of Frank’s Diary in the 1950s, and argues that authors feel compelled to engage with the problematic elements of these adaptations and their iconic power. At the same time, though, literary representations of Frank are associated with the adaptations; critics often assume that these texts unquestioningly perpetuate the problems with the adaptations. This is not true. This book examines how American authors represent Frank in order to negotiate difficult questions relating to representation of the Holocaust in America, and in order to consider gender, coming of age, and forms of inequality in American culture in various historical moments; and of course, to consider the ways Frank herself is represented in America. This book argues that the most compelling representations of Frank in American literature are alert to their own limitations, and may caution against making Frank a universal symbol of goodness or setting up too easy identifications with her. It will be of great interest to researchers and students of Frank, the Holocaust in American fiction and culture, gender studies, life writing, young adult fiction, and ethics.

When I walked through the office door each day, I knew that almost every decision I made would make someone unhappy…In Frank & Fearless Nicholas Cowdery QC takes us behind the scenes of the toughest cases that defined his 16 ½ years as the Director of Public Prosecutions for New South Wales. The headline-grabbing cases of Gordon Wood, Keli Lane and Christopher Gilham (tried for the 1992 murder of his brother and parents) are examined with forensic precision, along with the DPP’s decision not to prosecute artist Bill Henson and members of The Chaser. During his tenure, Cowdery was also well-known for his support for realistic drug and death with dignity laws, and for the need to decriminalise abortion.Frank & Fearless is a gripping and forthright account of the difficult and often contentious decisions Nicholas Cowdery made to maintain the rule of law during his time as a gatekeeper of the criminal justice system.
