Sergeant Charles Floyd was one of the first three men enlisted in Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery. Born around 1782 in Louisville, Kentucky, and personally recruited by William Clark, Floyd followed orders and kept a careful diary of the expedition, but only for ninety-nine days. On August 20, 1804, Floyd became the only member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition to die along the route, apparently succumbing to a ruptured appendix near present-day Sioux City. This elegant volume is the first facsimile edition of Floyd's journal. Readers will feel that they are holding the original journal as they see and read Floyd's own handwriting alongside new transcriptions. James J. Holmberg's detailed scholarly introduction and thorough, all-new annotations trace Sergeant Floyd's experiences with Lewis and Clark, his death, and the development of monuments to Floyd, including the stone obelisk that became our nation's first Registered National Historic Landmark. Exploring with Lewis and Clark captures Charles Floyd's story and his legacy and is a treasure for anyone with an interest in exploration and the American West.

Do you find yourself searching for answers to the reasons behind your pain? In A Magnificent Blunder: From Divorce and Despair to Awe and Wonder, author Garry Leep shares how God can use even the most painful seasons to lead you into a boundless and beautiful life. From growing up in a spiritually-dead environment to absorbing biblical misconceptions for twenty years, Leep was lost, seeing God through the lenses of confusion and fear. His most difficult moment in life--losing the woman he loved to divorce--brought him to the deepest depths of grief and despair. Yet on his three-year journey of heartache, Leep went from the outposts of sadness to finding communion with the most beautiful, loving, and awesome God. It wasn't until his state of immense brokenness that Leep truly came to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and God's desire to shape his journey of emotional wounds into an adventure of joy and wonder. After experiencing the amazing grace of God that brought him out of his personal grief, Leep discovered the truth of God's love that can restore a shattered past and repair a broken heart. Through this profound testimony of restoration and overcoming, Leep invites you into an intimate relationship with your heavenly Father who wants to transform your most painful moments into opportunities for spiritual growth. If you have endured extreme moments of grieving, A Magnificent Blunder will inspire you to discover the God of love and embrace a journey of awe and wonder. Born in 1952, Garry Leep was raised in one of the Dutch Reformed enclaves that surround Chicago like a string of pearls. After being drafted into the US Army at age twenty, Leep received honorable discharge and soon entered the world of business and commerce. He would go on to own and operate various businesses over the next forty years. A graduate from Trinity International University with an undergraduate degree in Communications and Organizational Leadership, Leep has a passion for furthering the gospel and grace of Jesus Christ through his writing. Now a retired businessman, Leep resides in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his wife, Michele, and spends most of his time using his love for the written word to share his testimony and spiritual journey.
