Die "Goings" haben das Dorf, in dem der sechs Jahre alte Benjamin, sein lterer Bruder, und seine Eltern lebten, berfallen. Nur der kleine Benjamin wurde von den Goings verschont und in ein Zeitgef ngnis, hoch ber den Wolken verschleppt. Nachdem Benjamin fast 16 Jahre in seinem Verlies in dauerndem gr nen Licht verbracht hatte, bemerkte er eines Tages voller Erstaunen, dass seine Zellent r niemals wirklich verschlossen war. Er beschlie t zu fliehen und findet in dem verlassenen Gef ngnis noch eine weitere Person vor, die er bisher nur immer "erahnt" hatte. Es ist Judith, ein junges, au ergew hnlich h bsches M dchen, ungef hr in seinem Alter. Es gelingt den beiden schlie lich aus diesem Gef ngnis zu fliehen. Der einzige Weg in die Freiheit jedoch f hrt ber eine S ule, die viele Kilometer hoch in den Himmel ragt und auf dessen Spitze das Gef ngnis der "Goings" ber den Wolken gebaut wurde. Sie m ssen also an der steinernen S ule auf rostigen Eisenb geln nach unten klettern, was den beiden unter Schwierigkeiten gelingt. Bald jedoch stellen sie fest, dass weiter unten um die S ule herum ein roter, neblig aussehender Ring ihnen den Weg versperrt. Als die beiden durch diesen Ring nach unten zu klettern versuchen, werden sie in das Jahr 1943 geschleudert, inmitten von Nazi-Deutschland, einem f r die beiden vollkommen fremden Land. Benjamin sowie Judith besitzen allerdings nur ihre kargen Erinnerungen als kleine Kinder vor ihrer Verschleppung in das Zeitgef ngnis. Auch ihr Denken ist das von Kindern, unschuldig, wissbegierig und aufgeschlossen begegnen sie nun den merkw rdigen Nazis und anderen Menschen. Der Rote Ring spuckt sie ausgerechnet in die N he eines Arbeitslagers aus, wo Raketen und andere Geheimwaffen der Deutschen Luftwaffe erprobt werden. Ihre Ankunft bleibt jedoch nicht unentdeckt. Sie werden von gef hrlichen und m rderischen Fanatikern der Geheimen Staaspolizei und der SS verfolgt, die in ihnen britische Spione vermuten. Aber der dubiose Lagerkommandant und gewissenlose Sturmbannf hrer Gregor Kr ger und dessen Bruder Walter sind in noch gr ssere Geheimnisse eingeweiht und vermuten in ihnen Au erirdische und sind von h chst geheimer Stelle beauftragt worden, die beiden unbedingt lebend zu fassen. Es vollzieht sich eine atemberaubende und spannende Jagd auf das junge Paar, das sich im Laufe der Ereignisse mehr und mehr auf ganz nat rliche Weise voneinander angezogen f hlt. Es entsteht eine Liebe ohne Worte und eine Verbundenheit mit reinsten Seelen. Beide, sowohl Judith als auch Benjamin besitzen seltene Gaben, die sie versuchen einzusetzen, um sich einerseits zu sch tzen und andererseits anderen zu helfen. Aber sie bekommen auch Hilfe von einigen wenigen Menschen, die in einem verlassenen Bergwerksstollen verborgen leben und aus dem Arbeitslager gefl chtet waren. Deren grauenvolle Erlebnisse, die im Laufe der Geschichte zu Tage treten, scheinen in der blo en Gegenwart der beiden auf geradezu magische Weise zu verschwinden. Schlie lich gelingt den beiden mit Hilfe dieser freundlichen Menschen und nach abenteuerlichen Erlebnissen die Flucht zum roten Ring zur ck. Dort jedoch wartet der gef rchtete Fanatiker Georg Kr ger bereits mit seinen H schern, um zu verhindern, dass die Fl chtenden vom roten Ring wieder aufgenommen werden. Nach einem furiosen Handlungsablauf gelingt es Benjamin und Judith in letzter Minute in den sichernen inneren Kreis des roten Ringes zu fl chten, der sie wieder auf die S ule bringt, von der sie einst ausgespuckt wurden. Mit Erstaunen entdecken die beiden, da der rote Ring verschwunden ist und es tief drunten einen weiteren, "gelben" Ring gibt. Um in die Freiheit zu gelangen, m ssen sie auch diesen Ring berwinden und seine Geheimnisse meistern. Wohin wird es sie diesmal verschlagen? Wird ihre zarte und nat rliche Zuneigung zueinander wachsen? Welchen Widrigkeiten werden sie begegnen? Werden sie je wieder in ihre Heimat kommen? Als n chstes
