This book provides a powerfully argued and beautifully constructed account of the early development of the child in the family context from a psychoanalytic perspective. It draws on the theoretical trajectory from Sigmund Freud to Melanie Klein and Wilfried Bion.
Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Puberty and Adolescence
Puberty is a time of tumultuous transition from childhood to adulthood activated by rapid physical changes, hormonal development and explosive activity of neurons. This book explores puberty through the parent-teenager relationship, as a "normal state of crisis", lasting several years and with the teenager oscillating between childlike tendencies and their desire to become an adult. The more parents succeed in recognizing and experiencing these new challenges as an integral, ineluctable emotional transformative process, the more they can allow their children to become independent. In addition, parents who can also see this crisis as a chance for their own further development will be ultimately enriched by this painful process. They can face up to their own aging as they take leave of youth with its myriad possibilities, accepting and working through a newfound rivalry with their sexually mature children, thus experiencing a process of maturity, which in turn can set an example for their children. This book is based on rich clinical observations from international settings, unique within the ?eld, and there is an emphasis placed by the author on the role of the body in self-awareness, identity crises and gender construction. It will be of great interest to psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, parents and carers, as well as all those interacting with adolescents in self, family and society.

Pubertat - Die Innere Welt Der Adoleszenten Und Ihrer Eltern: Psychoanalytische Entwicklungstheorie Nach Freud, Klein Und Bion

Latenz - Das 'goldene Zeitalter' Der Kindheit: Psychoanalytische Entwicklungstheorie Nach Freud, Klein Und Bion
English summary: Gertraud Diem-Wille illustrates the psychoanalytical development theories of Freud, Klein and Bion in regards to the ages between 6 and 11 years. The "golden age of childhood" with its desire for development and a willingness to learn describes a normal development. However, it may also show disruptions, which had so far not been recognisable, and which present themselves as learning difficulties, behavioural problems, fits of anger or tendencies to withdraw or use violence. Extensive case studies from child analyses show how inner conflicts may be identified and integrated with the help if interpretations.

Latency: The Golden Age of Childhood concerns the child’s emotional and cognitive development during the period of latency. It constitutes a bridge between the first stormy years of child development and adolescence. The conflicts and libidinous wishes of early childhood are relegated to the background and become latent: in general, an emotional and physical stabilization occurs. The child is attempting to find its place in the world. Accordingly, its primary interest is no longer in itself or its parents, but in the outside world. This is particularly manifested in forms of play typical for this age range, strongly influenced by imitation of the adult world and reality-oriented. At the same time, the body is explored (and its awareness is strengthened through numerous games involving movement, skill and competition). In all societies, this period is when school begins. The latency development includes new physical and intellectual capabilities as well as the development of new ways to deal with problems of social hierarchy; gradually, tolerance of tensions and a stabilization of identity are developed as well.

“I was born in Dresden in 1929. After leaving school I did an apprenticeship there as a stone sculptor. From 1950 to 1954 I studied sculpture, and 1959 to 1964 ceramics at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. In 1979–89 I worked there as a teacher. I am married to a painter and have four children.” The ceramicist and sculptor Gertraud Möhwald, who was renowned far beyond the borders of Germany, gave this personal statement two years before her death in December 2022. The emotional expression of her figurative works can be understood by people across the globe. But who is this sculptor with the impressive ability to critically observe herself and the world? Who is this woman who struggles to find space and time for her own artistic work while trying to fulfil her role as a wife and mother? Who is this ceramicist who knows how to draw positives even from adverse circumstances? This book provides the answers in images of selected works and numerous hitherto unpublished texts by the artist. Text in German.

In 1984 and 1985, the swift succession in the USSR's leadership affected all levels of Soviet society. This eighth volume in a series of biennial reports on the Soviet Union analyzes domestic affairs, economics, and foreign policy in light of that succession. Power struggles within the highest echelons of the Soviet communist party are examined. Contributors evaluate prospects for the attempted economic modernization in a system that leaves little room for radical reform. Moscow's swings between extremes of self-isolation and readiness to talk raise questions about foreign and security policy during die transitional period. The contributors also identify perspectives, priorities, and trends for the future of Soviet politics, economics, and social developments. The Federal Institute for East European and International Studies in Cologne was established in 1961 as an academically autonomous research institution. It operates under the administrative and financial authority of Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior.

'Approaching the different and manifold sequences in this book...one will gradually come to realise that metamorphosis can become an ideal for knowledge, a guiding path for self-knowledge and knowledge of the world - as intuitive contemplation and as artistic creation.' - Dr Peter Wolf What is metamorphosis? Through the medium of art, sculptor Gertraud Goodwin invites us to enter the realm of time and continuously changing movement in this highly original book. With chapters by various artists and writers, interwoven with her key insights, Goodwin offers numerous points of entry to understanding the mystery of metamorphosis. Profusely-illustrated in colour, we are shown many sequences of images - of sculptures, reliefs and graphic works - which, with the aid of informed commentary, we are invited to 'read'. These images belong together, developing from one to the next - just as single experiences and events in life belong to our biographies. One motif, one movement, passes through all stages, from simple beginnings and more differentiated formations, to a culmination - and, from there, back to a more mature simplicity and concentration, which makes a new beginning possible.' In relation to the transcendent, where ordinary words fail, the language of form, texture and relations in space, like those of music in time, offer alternatives to words, perhaps less encumbered by preconceptions. These pages offer many examples of the beauties and mysteries of metamorphosis, which is itself an essential component of Nature's creative language.' - Dr Philip Kilner
