Queste pagine sono avvincenti perch da un lato presentano una narrativa concisa delle esperienze e dei sentimenti delle truppe, non una fredda "contabilit " di strategie e di movimenti di truppe, e da un altro lato perch la storia dell'agonia di un uomo che non crede che la guerra sia giustificata ma tuttavia combatte vigorosamente, che sa che i suoi superiori stanno prendendo decisioni sbagliate ma che obbedisce agli ordini che ne derivano e che fa del suo meglio in circostanze impossibili, che di conseguenza ne soffre tremendamente, cos come ne soffrono tutte le sue truppe e tutti coloro coinvolti nella campagna. Fatuzzo, mentre era in prima linea, venne gravemente ferito il 30 dicembre 1940, e fu evacuato, a fasi e con molto dolore, dal campo di battaglia fino in Italia. In tal modo sopravvisse, mentre molti che servirono con e intorno a lui rimasero in posizione e morirono, un fatto che egli non dimentic mai. Questo libro fu pubblicato originariamente in Italia nel 1970, ma stato fuori stampa da molti anni. Si pubblicata ora una nuova edizione come tributo agli alpini italiani e per ricordare a tutti l'orribile realt delle guerre.

Ho sempre adorato Giacomo Leopardi.Ho sempre desiderato conoscerlo ed essergli amica. Gli ho sempre voluto bene.E quando scrivo "voluto bene" intendo proprio che ho sempre nutrito un profondo affetto per lui. Questo racconto un'opera completamente di fantasia, certo, ma anche l'unico modo per poter rendere reale questo mio antico e mai passato desiderio di averlo come amico carissimo. In fondo, si tratta di soli tre giorni in un'intera vita, ma passati con Giacomo, in una quotidianit privata tanto pi preziosa, per me, di tutto il Conte Leopardi pubblico. La prima edizione cartacea di "Giacomo" (2006) ha l'onore di essere ospitata presso il Centro Nazionale Studi Leopardiani a Recanati.

This book is intended primarily as a guide for the opera goer. It includes a synopsis of the plot, with indications of the themes and motifs used in it, and discusses the style of the opera, Tosca being a typical example of Italian naturalism in operas, verismo. It compares Puccini’s libretto with Sardou’s play La Tosca, analyses the close-knit structure of the work and examines salient points in the music. It also describes the genesis of the work (quoting wherever appropriate, Puccini’s own remarks about it), its first production and early reception. A subsidiary aim of the book is to present the opinions, positive and negative, that have been expressed by various critics about the opera since its first production in 1900. There are contributions from the celebrated singer and producer of Tosca Tito Gobbi, and two other musicologists, Roger Parker and William Ashbrook. Malcolm Walker has provided a discography.

Nineteenth-century Paris attracted foreign musicians like a magnet. The city boasted a range of theatres and of genres represented there, a wealth of libretti and source material for them, vocal, orchestral and choral resources, to say nothing of the set designs, scenery and costumes. All this contributed to an artistic environment that had musicians from Italian- and German-speaking states beating a path to the doors of the Académie Royale de Musique, Opéra-Comique, Théâtre Italien, Théâtre Royal de l'Odéon and Théâtre de la Renaissance. This book both tracks specific aspects of this culture, and examines stage music in Paris through the lens of one of its most important figures: Giacomo Meyerbeer. The early part of the book, which is organised chronologically, examines the institutional background to music drama in Paris in the nineteenth century, and introduces two of Meyerbeer's Italian operas that were of importance for his career in Paris. Meyerbeer's acculturation to Parisian theatrical mores is then examined, especially his moves from the Odéon and Opéra-Comique to the opera house where he eventually made his greatest impact - the Académie Royale de Musique; the shift from Opéra-Comique is then counterpointed by an examination of how an indigenous Parisian composer, Fromental Halévy, made exactly the same leap at more or less the same time. The book continues with the fates of other composers in Paris: Weber, Donizetti, Bellini and Wagner, but concludes with the final Parisian successes that Meyerbeer lived to see - his two opéras comiques.
