Advanced Radar Detection Schemes Under Mismatched Signal Models

Adaptive detection of signals embedded in correlated Gaussian noise has been an active field of research in the last decades. This topic is important in many areas of signal processing such as, just to give some examples, radar, sonar, communications, and hyperspectral imaging. Most of the existing adaptive algorithms have been designed following the lead of the derivation of Kelly's detector which assumes perfect knowledge of the target steering vector. However, in realistic scenarios, mismatches are likely to occur due to both environmental and instrumental factors. When a mismatched signal is present in the data under test, conventional algorithms may suffer severe performance degradation. The presence of strong interferers in the cell under test makes the detection task even more challenging. An effective way to cope with this scenario relies on the use of "tunable" detectors, i.e., detectors capable of changing their directivity through the tuning of proper parameters. The aim of this book is to present some recent advances in the design of tunable detectors and the focus is on the so-called two-stage detectors, i.e., adaptive algorithms obtained cascading two detectors with opposite behaviors. We derive exact closed-form expressions for the resulting probability of false alarm and the probability of detection for both matched and mismatched signals embedded in homogeneous Gaussian noise. It turns out that such solutions guarantee a wide operational range in terms of tunability while retaining, at the same time, an overall performance in presence of matched signals commensurate with Kelly's detector. A dictionary of the English and Italian languages. By Joseph Baretti. To which is prefixed, an Italian and English grammar. A new edition. Corrected and improved, by Peter Ricci Rota, ... of 2; Volume 1
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Experience the birth of the modern novel, or compare the development of language using dictionaries and grammar discourses. ++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title.
Giuseppe Mazzini and the Globalization of Democratic Nationalism, 1830-1920
Giuseppe Mazzini - Italian patriot, humanist, and republican - was one of the most celebrated and revered political activists and thinkers of the nineteenth century. This volume is the first to compare and contrast the perception of his thought and the transformation of his image across the world. Mazzini's contribution to the Italian Risorgimento was unparalleled; he stood for a 'religion of humanity'; he argued against tyranny, and for universal education, a democratic franchise and the liberation of women. The papers in this volume reflect the range of Mazzini's political thought, discussing his vision of international relations, his concept of the nation and the role of arts in politics. And they detail how his writings and reputation influenced nations and leaders across Europe, the Americas, and India. Linking the study of political history to the history of art, literature and religion, this volume is essential reading for all those interested in modern nationalism and the history of democracy.
GIUSEPPE di MONTEFIORE of Mottarone and the Lakes
On leaving the idyllic mountain setting overlooking the splendour of Lake Maggiore where he has grown up, in order to pursue his operatic training in the bustling city of Milan, Giuseppe could never have imagined the dramatic circumstances that would lead him through Florence, Venice, Baden-Baden in Germany, and across the Atlantic to Philadelphia.Set primarily in Italy in the 1950s, this is the story of an extraordinarily talented young man who, endowed with a great natural voice, eventually fulfils his dream of becoming a successful tenor singer. It conjures up the world of opera, vividly portraying the personal and professional lives of singers. Through keen observation and lively dialogue, we get to know a range of fascinating characters from all strata of society. You don't have to be a lover of opera to enjoy this book, but reading it may lead you in that direction!
