1000 tulosta hakusanalla Guy Endore
Loosely based on the Haitian slave insurrection of 1791, Babouk is a biting account of colonialism at its peak. By using the imagination of the novelist to fill in the gaps in the historical record, Endore is able to show us how slavery felt to the slaves who experienced it. His novel is rare for its depiction of the shared history of the slaves and its attention to the variety of the slave experience. It provides the reader with a vivid history of Haiti and a compelling account of slavery and rebellion.
The werewolf is one of the great iconic figures of horror in folklore, legend, film, and literature. And connoisseurs of horror fiction know that The Werewolf of Paris is a cornerstone work. Endore’s classic novel has not only withstood the test of time since it was first published in 1933, but it boldly used and portrayed elements of sexual compulsion in ways that had never been seen before, at least not in horror literature. In this gripping work of historical fiction, Endore’s werewolf, an outcast named Bertrand Caillet, travels across pre-Revolutionary France seeking to calm the beast within. Stunning in its sexual frankness and eerie, fog-enshrouded visions, this novel was decidedly influential for the generations of horror and science fiction authors who came afterward.

Since the 1980s, psychoanalysis has been the object of severe criticI'm. International classifications have reduced many psychiatric disorders to a series of objective criteria, and behavioural and cognitive theories have denied the role of the unconscious. Yet does all this mean that psychoanalysis should be rejected?Psychiatry today has everything to gain from the application of multiple theories, since no single theory can explain all the aspects of a given mental pathology. In this context, psychoanalysis still has a major role to play, contributing significantly to the diagnosis. By analysing the dynamics underlying certain disorders, psychoanalysis can help define the appropriate treatment. Psychoanalysis also plays an obvious part in diagnosing and treating neuroses, perversions, narcissistic disorders, and borderline states. And it can also help restore psychic harmony. The author argues in favour of a profitable dialogue between psychoanalysis and psychiatry to further our knowledge of what is normal and what is pathological. This book reviews some basic notions of psychoanalysis and explains why certain psychoanalytic concepts serve as useful models to analyse the workings of the psyche.Guy Darcourt examines the respective contributions of the psychiatric and psychoanalytic approaches in improving our understanding of the manifestations of the disease and in helping select the most appropriate therapeutic method. He shows how psychoanalytic theory has enriched psychiatry and given it a better grasp of the iedividual.Guy Darcourt is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and professor emeritus of psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine in Nice. He is a former president of the French Federation of Psychiatry.
