The Heart That Beats is a collection of semiautobiographical poems based on Fellmann's life as a novice writer living in the Czech Republic and California from 2010 to 2016. All poems appear in chronological order, starting with those describing his move to Prague from California to begin his life as a writer, and ending with those describing a series of events, which sent him on a path to self-destruction. The collection touches on difficult themes Fellmann dealt with during this time, such as alcoholism, drug abuse, abortion, suicide, overdose, rejection, mockery, isolation, death, madness, and heartbreak. The narrative draws inspiration from traumatic moments in his past, and from the state of chaos we live in today as it attempts to understand the heart that beats beneath it all.

"Hansen war moderner als die katholische Kirche heute." - Diese Beobachtung, fuaend auf Hansens Schrift "Andeutungen uber die kunftige Stellung und Verfassung der katholischen Kirche in Deutschland" (1848), gab den Anstoa zu dieser Biographie. Die politischen Zasuren 1830 - 1848/49 - 1870/71 regten ihn zum Nachdenken uber Reformen der katholischen Kirche an: 1830/31 pragte er maageblich die Trierer Reformbewegung mit teils radikalen Forderungen, getragen von Ideen der Katholischen Aufklarung. 1848/49 hoffte er vor dem Hintergrund der Paulskirche vergeblich, demokratische Strukturen in der katholischen Kirche umzusetzen. Erstmals erfasst diese Biographie quellengestutzt seine Tatigkeit als Abgeordneter der Preuaischen Nationalversammlung, in der er vor allem in der Kommission fur das Kirchen- und Schulwesen fur die Wahrung kirchlicher Rechte stritt. Um diese zu wahren, naherte er sich nach 1849 der ultramontanen Stromung an. Spatestens ab 1853 bewahrte sich Hansen vor Ort als "Milieumanager", suchte erfolgreich Losungen fur soziale und wirtschaftliche Probleme infolge der Industrialisierung. Er organisierte Katholiken in Bruderschaften und Vereinen, schuf das katholische Milieu. Damit leistete er einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Formierung des politischen Katholizismus an der Saar. Hansen stellte sich den Herausforderungen seiner Zeit in Kirche, Staat und Gesellschaft. Ein Vorbild fur heute?
Joseph Haydns Lebenslauf (1732-1809) verlief entlang einer kulturhistorisch faszinierenden Wegstrecke. Als Sohn eines Wagenbauers stammte Haydn aus Handwerker-Verhaltnissen, die ihn Zeit seines Lebens nachhaltig gepragt haben. Als er mit acht Jahren nach Wien kam, entwickelte er sich dort in den folgenden zwanzig Jahren vom talentierten Chorknaben zum jungen Sanger, Instrumentalisten und Komponisten. 1761 wurde er Kapellmeister am Hofe der ungarischen Fursten Eszterhazy, in deren Diensten er 30 Jahre wirkte. In den 1790er Jahren fuhrten ihn zwei ausgedehnte Reisen nach London, wo er grosse Erfolge als Komponist und Dirigent feiern konnte. Uberragende musikalische Bedeutung erlangte Haydn vor allem mit seinen Streichquartetten und Sinfonien. Er entwickelte eine musikalische lingua franca, die ganz Europa sprechen lernte und die die Basis fur das Schaffen Mozarts und Beethovens legte, besonders fur deren Sinfonik. Hans-Josef Irmen zeichnet in seiner Biographie ein kenntnisreiches, lebendiges und zugleich kritisches Bild des Vaters der klassischen Sinfonie. Er schildert die ernuchternden Lebensumstande des grossen Komponisten ebenso wie ihre Verwobenheit in eine reiche kunstlerische Epoche. Der begeisterte Haydn-Fan sieht die herausragende Bedeutung der Musik darin, dass man sie in der ganzen Welt versteht, weil sie ausgewogen, klar, personlich, aufrichtig, aber auch gewitzt und herzerfrischend naturlich ist.
