Noch in den dreiBiger Jahren dieses Jahrhunderts lieBen Bucher der Entwicklungsphysiologie eine gewisse Einschlagigkeit in der Pro- blemstellung erkennen. Auch die unterschiedlichen Tiergruppen, die zu den entwicklungsphysiologischen Experimenten herangezogen werden konnten, brachten nur eine begrenzte Vielfalt. Die wenn auch vielfacr bewundernswerten methodischen Erfolge waren eingeengt durch die Mog- lichkeiten, die unmittelbare Beobachtung und mikrochirurgisches Ex- perimentieren zulieBen.
