The inspiring words of Henri J. M. Nouwen guide the faithful on a spiritual journey through the Advent and Christmas season in this book of waiting, hope, anticipation, and celebration. Each day of the Advent season (28 in all, to accommodate the varying number of days in the season) and each day of Christmas (12 in all, ending with Jesus' baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist) contain a pertinent excerpt from the writings of Father Nouwen, a related quotation from Scripture, a prayer for the day, and a suggested activity that offers a concrete response to mark the season. "Advent and Christmas Wisdom" is indeed an easy-to-use, daily program to celebrate the momentous arrival of the Christ Child and the joyous news of our salvation. It is also an ideal book for the individual seeking active participation in the season and a renewal of faith for the start of the liturgical year.
Wounded Prophet: A Portrait of Henri J.M. Nouwen
Henri Nouwen, a Dutch Roman Catholic priest, was one of the most beloved and important spiritual writers of the twentieth century. Since his death in 1996, his stature has only increased; and his books, including The Inner Voice of Love, The Wounded Healer, and The Return of the Prodigal Son, have become cherished classics. For thousands of readers around the world, Nouwen's influence as a teacher and author is considered equal to, or greater than, that of the century's great spiritual writers, C. S. Lewis and Thomas Merton.Although Nouwen could be radically revealing about his personal thoughts and struggles, there are nonetheless gaps in our understanding of who he was. With Wounded Prophet, readers are given the first extensive look into this man who touched so many, not only through his own words but, most powerfully, through the eyes of those around the world who knew Nouwen best. While researching this compelling biography, BBC producer Michael Ford conducted wide-ranging interviews with Nouwen's friends, colleagues, and family members. What he discovered was far more compelling than what he had imagined: Though Nouwen was indeed the generous and loving man many thought he was, he was also never able to find consistent peace in his own life. Tormenting him were profound feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and loneliness. This portrait gives an honest and well-balanced account of Nouwen's life that leaves no stone unturned, investigating his childhood, his family, his sexuality, and his life as a priest and member of the L'Arche Daybreak community in Toronto.

This book considers the premise that we have all experienced brokenness and woundedness, to some degree, in our lives. The book expounds upon the book by the same title by Henri J.M. Nouwen, a renowned theologian and scholar. There are people who are considered by themselves, and others, to be wounded healers, entering into the lives of others who are experiencing loneliness, grief, pain - both physical, emotional, and spiritual -, depression with or without suicidal thoughts, anxiety, PTSD, gender and sexuality identification problems. The are the people in our midst who are asking themselves, "Who Am I?" and who wonder if their broken, wounded condition will ever improve. It contains essays, reflections, poetry, short stories, and sermons from the two authors, all of which are designed to describe the conditions of woundedness and healing. We all have healers - angels, if you will, who are humans - who come into our lives to assist, even guide, us toward a state of healing. These "angels", wounded healers can appears as family, friends, loved ones, teachers, counselors, therapists, spiritual guides, and a variety of others - all of whom desire to enter fully into our suffering and can share their own wounds in such a way that Oneness can be discovered and a connection with our Creator can be be established.

Although he had little time to write, as a spiritual discipline he kept a daily journal enriched with vivid observations and soul-searching reflections. Sabbatical Journey records the flowering of friendship and prayer during what would be his final year on earth.

I denne boken reflekterer forfatteren over hjemkomsten.

In the year before his unexpected death in 1996, Henri Nouwen set out to write a book about the Creed. His plans changed when he learned of the death of his friend Adam Arnett, a profoundly handicapped young man from the L'Arche Daybreak Community where Nouwen lived. Adam could not speak or even move without assistance. Gripped by frequent seizures, he spent his life in obscurity. And yet, for Nouwen, Adam became "my friend, my teacher, and my guide." It was Adam who led Nouwen to a new understanding of his faith and what it means to be Beloved of God. Through the story of Adam, Nouwen found a new way to tell God's story of Jesus and the story of all of us human creatures, broken and yet beloved, who live in a world charged with the mystery of God's love. In an afterword to this edition, Robert Ellsberg, Nouwen's editor, writes: "In rereading Adam, I am struck by how much it represents not only the final distillation of Henri's fundamental message, but also a key to interpreting everything that went before." In the story of Adam, Nouwen found a new way of expressing his Creed, and offered it in the hope "that many others, through Adam's story will be enabled to recognize God's story among us and so be empowered to say in a new way, 'I believe.'"
