Hiro Plays Tiny Tim is book #4 in the Anna's Friends series of 8 illustrated books for the 3rd grade level, or age 8-10. All age levels, actually. Hiro; s character illustrates the motivational gift of Exhortation. In book #4 we will follow Hiro through his journey of practicing for his role as Tiny Tim in the classic play, "A Christmas Carol" and how he overcomes the adversity of such an important role with his wit and humor. This fun excerpt shows us one of the fun traits of this child - teasing his friends: "Hiro had a rubber spider in his pocket just waiting for the right time and the right person to tease with it. He got down off the table and sat by Sarah, then quietly and slowly took the rubbery toy critter out of his pocket to be ready for the right moment. "Okay, all in favor raise your hand," Anna told the group. Everyone raised their hand except Jesse. "Perfect," Hiro said under his breath. While everyone's hands were raised, he slid the spider in Sarah's notebook that was laying on the table. "Sarah will you write a few lines about the reading contest and give it to me before you go home so I can put it in the newsletter?"Anna asked. Sarah was very thrifty. She opened her notebook to take out a piece of paper. She let out a scream that everyone in the park heard. Sarah's notebook went flying through the air. Papers floated up and down and everywhere just like bird feathers, and the spider too. The rubber critter came down and landed on Cayden's hair but no one saw it just then. "Where did it go, where is it?" Sarah shouted and moved around the table like a chicken with its head cut off. Some reviews: Tammy: "Kendyl and I have loved it We are reading it together, laughing and learning. The book prompted Kendyl to ask me what her gift was. I said let's keep reading and find out. She has a servant's heart. It also prompted Kendyl to think about her friends and classmates and their gifts. What's great is that this age group can relate so well to the author's purpose. It comes shining through clearly. I didn't tell Kendyl the theme of the book...she figured it out on her own which is important for this audience age. Yvonne is an excellent author " Paola: "I really enjoyed reading this book with my children. It got my children and I thinking about our own God given gifts and how we want to explore them further. We were so into the story that we could feel the emotion coming from the book. We felt Anna's excitement as well as her sorrow at times. It is a great book which I will recommend to anyone You even made my eyes water a few times. Xavier: My 9-year-old son laughed at the silly things Hiro would do to the girls because I think he relates to the character. I like how Mr. Henderson wants his students to share their God given gifts with the world. Aysel: My 10-year-old daughter was into the book and loved how God was included and prayer was mentioned. She really enjoyed reading Anna's Friends. She liked how it was easy to understand and follow. Angela: "I opened the manuscript and began reading a few pages. I was IMMEDIATELY "sucked" into the story and I can't wait to finish what I need to do right now so I may get back to the book. Enough said? I am...I, I don't have the words. This is a God thing." All the books in the Anna's Friend's Illustrated children's Book Series make great stand-alone gifts or you can buy the entire series as a bundle. Great choick for home schooling too. Get yours today

What does it take to attain the American Dream of liberty and justice for all? What is demanded of us as individuals and as a nation?Explore these questions as aging World War II veteran Hiroshi Koga tells his life story, from the days he and other nisei-second-generation Japanese Americans-and their issei parents are thrown into U.S. internment camps because of their race. Volunteering from behind barbed wire to serve the country that imprisoned him, feisty Hiroshi becomes a highly decorated staff sergeant while suffering further injustice and the loss of his dear friend. Years after the war, a subdued Hiro meets with his old lieutenant, Toshio Ando, and both men acknowledge that they are haunted by their inability to put an end to the inequity and by their roles in the death of their comrade.Using the hero's journey motif to its fullest, Hiro's War evolves from a wartime coming-of-age saga into a search for peace on a personal and national scale. Hiroshi engages the reader from the very start, sharing his pain at being orphaned at the age of thirteen and then betrayed by his country after Pearl Harbor. With him, we experience the horrid conditions of the assembly centers and internment camps that the government cobbles together in panic, and our hearts beat with his as he struggles to win true love amidst the chaos. When Uncle Sam does an about face and calls nisei to serve their country, we stand by his side as he decides to fight for the ideals of America, not its foibles. Battle after battle, we sweat and strain to conquer the enemy under the very best of generals and the very worst. The effects of ineptitude at the top reach down the ranks during the dark Vosges campaign, paving a path of treachery and loss that affects Hiro for the rest of his life and pits him against his beloved lieutenant. As the nation debates redress for the internment, Hiro and Ando struggle to right the wrongs of the past and forgive themselves and each other. Secrets long held by the government and by Ando, Hiro, and Hiro's wife are exposed, inflicting pain while offering a challenging path toward redemption.Meticulously researched and sensitively written, Hiro's War is a great choice for anyone who wants to learn more about this shameful chapter of U.S. history, from high schoolers and their teachers to adult readers and students of history and the human condition. The novel is especially poignant reading for all Americans at a time when minorities are again shunned as outsiders.

The rollicking, rags-to-riches story of Rocky Aoki, prodigiously successful businessman and expert sportsman who founded the multimillion-dollar restaurant chain Benihana, forever changed Americans’ view of Japanese cuisine, and whose pursuits include wrestling at world-class level, power-boat racing, ballooning, and undersea exploration Rocky Aoki was a man who succeeded in everything that he undertook, and his range of interests were wild and exciting. His empire of restaurants put the name Benihana on the map and changed the way Americans viewed Japanese cuisine. The business of running and expanding them would be all-absorbing for most people, but not so for Rocky, whose energies had also attracted him to many sports in which he excelled, sometimes nearly to the point of death. At a young age, he was a world-class Olympic wrestler. Introduced to the dangerous world of offshore powerboat racing, he arranged for Benihana to sponsor the world’s largest offshore powerboat race, and was nearly killed in an accident, crushing both legs, while preparing for the Benihana Grand Prix. Then, seeking a new sport, he turned to ballooning, completing the first trans-Pacific flight from Japan to California in a manned balloon and breaking the previous long-distance record for a manned balloon flight. Then, there was flying ultra-light aircraft, collecting and driving fast cars, and exploring under the sea in a specially designed two-man submarine, with future dreams of winning the America’s Cup for Japan. But Aoki also served the common good, acting as Commissioner on the Mayor’s Council on Youth and Physical Fitness in New York City, and campaigning for the advancement, both physical and cultural, of youth everywhere. He was actively involved in promoting the cultural exchanges between the country of his birth and his US home and sponsored sporting and cultural events such as the first professional heavyweight boxing match in the Far East between Muhammad Ali and Mac Foster, becoming Broadway’s first Japanese angel, acting as patron to young Japanese artists in the US, and producing films about them. Rocky Aoki’s wild, capitalistic interpretation of the American dream is one for the ages, was a modern champion, in business, sports, and in life.
