La obra literaria de Homero Aridjis constituye una de las trayectorias m s s lidas del mbito hisp nico contempor neo, atravesada por las preocupaciones medioambientales que muestra el escritor mexicano desde muy temprano. Este hecho coloca su literatura entre las m s comprometidas con el medioambiente, y por tanto, con la humanidad misma, y la sit a en la corriente ecocr tica. La presente monograf a es un estudio abarcador de la obra de Aridjis, quien ha publicado numerosos libros de poes a, novelas, piezas teatro, ensayos y escritos ambientalistas. Cada una de estas parcelas es abordada desde su contexto creaci n, atendiendo a las coordenadas hist ricas y socioculturales mexicanas y mundiales, ya que desde muy temprano Aridjis se inserta en la gran tradici n occidental. Si hubiera que resumir el calibre de su vasta obra, cabr a aplicar al autor aquello que dijo Doris Lessing de otro grande, J.M. Coetzee: "No se limitaba a mantenerse en contacto con la mejor tradici n, sino que l mismo era la tradici n". El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal presentar el resultado de un an lisis hermen utico y de contenido de los mensajes centrales en textos de Homero Aridjis, con el fin de efectuar una interpretaci n de su obra, a partir de la aplicaci n de un esquema de an lisis hermen utico; por ello, se desarrolla una metodolog a con elementos de la teor a de Mauricio Beuchot y aportes de Helena Berist in de t picos literarios. Dichos an lisis se aplican a los textos del escritor mexicano; poemas de Infancia de Luz, el ensayo "El Milenio del Sol", la novela La Leyenda de los Soles y del texto period stico "Carta a Donald Trump desde M xico", para desarrollar un estudio y valoraci n de su obra. Asimismo se incluyen conclusiones basadas en torno a la hip tesis y objetivos planteados.

A native of New York City, Elliot Weinberger is a poet, translator, and editor of the distinguished international journal of poetry and translation, Montemora. His other books of translations include Eagle or Sun and A Draft of Shadows, both by Octavio Paz. Homero Aridjis was born in Contepec, Michoacan, Mexico, in 1940. He was the founder of the review Correspondencias and chief editor of Diagolos; his first book of poems in translation, Blue Spaces, was published in the United States in 1974. The recipient of Guggenheim Fellowships in 1966-67 and 1979-80, he has been visiting professor at the University of Indiana and New York University as well as Poet in Residence at Columbia University's Translation Center. Homero Aridjis also has served as Mexico's Ambassador to Switzerland and to the Netherlands. These translations have received an award from the Translation Center at Columbia University, made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

After capturing Smyrna, Turkish forces went on a rampage, torturing and massacring tens of thousands of Greeks and Armenians and devastating the city—in particular, the Greek and Armenian quarters—by deliberately setting disastrous fires. After years of fighting in World War I and the Greco-Turkish War, Nicias enters a Smyrna under siege. He desperately moves through the city in search of Eurydice, the love of his life whom he left behind.
