Regulation in India: Design, Capacity, Performance
The rise of the regulatory state has been a major feature of modern constitutional democracies. India, the world’s largest democracy, is no exception to this trend. This book is the first major study of regulation in India. It considers how the development of regulation in India has altered the nature and functions of the state; how it is reshaping the relationship between business and the state; how it has called for the refashioning of established legal principles; and how it has raised new questions about the relationship between technical expertise and the rule of law. The chapters cover topics ranging from the foundations of the Indian regulatory state to the form of regulation across different sectors to regulation in practice. Together, the chapters reveal the challenges, promise, and limitations offered by contemporary regulatory practices, and they capture the close if sometimes fraught relationship that regulation must inevitably share with the political economy and constitutional schema within which it operates.

"India by Design: Colonial History and Cultural Display" maps for the first time a series of historical events - from the Raj in the mid-nineteenth century up to the present day - through which India was made fashionable to Western audiences within the popular cultural arenas of the imperial metropole. Situated at the convergence of discussions in anthropology, art history, museum studies, and postcolonial criticism, this dynamic study investigates with vivid historical detail how Indian objects, bodies, images, and narratives circulated through metropolitan space and acquired meaning in an emergent nineteenth-century consumer economy. Through an examination of India as represented in department stores, museums, exhibitions, painting, and picture postcards of the era, the book carefully confronts the problems and politics of postcolonial display and offers an original and provocative account of the implications of colonial practices for visual production in our contemporary world.

You want to create a video game? Great You want to tell a story? Fantastic You want to create a video game that tells a story? What? Are you insane? I'm joking, kind of. You don't have to be insane to tell a good story through your Indie video game, but you do have to be out of your mind. What I mean is, you have to empty your brain of a whole bunch of stuff that Hollywood and Triple-As have told you about games and stories, and fill it up with stuff that's actually going to work on your teeny tiny budget. Three Act structure? That's like trying to shove a giant triangle through a tiny circle. Hero's Journey? Yup, that'll take you nowhere, fast. Authorial Authority. Now you're just winding me up Whether you're an Indie developer or a narrative designer wanting to work in the Indie space, Narrative Design for Indies: Getting Started will take you through some tried and true techniques of Indie video game storytelling. Techniques that have been developed to blow minds rather than budgets.

This book traces developments in design education in India and shows the continuing impact of the Bauhaus School of design education, which formed the basis of the National Institute of Design. It presents the findings of the author's research and experiential learning as a design educator over a 25-year period. This book argues that as the effects of climate change and the exploitation of natural and human resources become more pervasive, it has become increasingly important to ensure that the values of social responsibility are instilled into the design students who will become future practitioners. This book offers an alternative model of understanding regarding the ecosystem of design and sustainable design education. Going beyond description and analysis, it includes three case studies of adoptable design curricula created by the author, with student responses to the programmes to provide first-hand insights into their impact. Research findings are based on detailed interviews with contemporary faculty members, all experts in the various design disciplines, along with an in-depth survey of existing design programmes in India.Design Education in India encourages a paradigm shift in thinking about the environment, spaces and places. It offers a unique perspective on the status of design education in an important and fast-growing economy and will be a useful read for design educators and researchers in varied disciplines.

Perspectives on Design Education in India and Asia
This book spotlights design and media education in Asia, with contributors providing their reflections on curriculum development, pedagogy, and practice from Australia, China, Japan, India, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Turkey. The chapters provide in-depth and specific examples of how curricula and educational resources have been organised with respect to a wide variety of subjects, including aesthetics, engineering, and practice-based coursework. These course plans have also been adapted to respond to questions about integrating emerging technologies in the classroom and addressing changing industry needs as well as the need to encourage resilience and leadership skills across student and faculty cohorts. Although not an analysis of educational and industrial policies, some key documents such as The India Design Report of 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames and India’s National Education Policy of 2020 are referenced to provide important background information for understanding the past, present, and future of the design education ecosystem across the region.Presenting both historical context and practical contemporary applications of curricula in specific universities and design schools, this volume is compiled to share resources among faculty and researchers interested in global Asian design pedagogy who have previously relied upon publications centred on the UK and US contexts. It will appeal to design educators and anyone responsible for design education curricula across the Asian region and beyond.
