In the 1930s and '40s, the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo toured the United States and the world, introducing many to ballet as an art form, while spreading the enduring image of the ballerina as an embodiment of feminine grace and sophistication. This sumptuous, illustrated history tells the story of the rise of modern ballet and its popularity through the life story of one of ballet's most glamorous stars, Irina Baronova (1919 - 2008), prima ballerina for the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and later for Ballet Theatre in New York. Drawing on letters, correspondence, oral histories and interviews, Baronova's daughter, the actress Victoria Tennant, warmly recounts Baronova's dramatic life, from her earliest aspirations to her grueling time on tour to her later years in Australia as a pioneer of the art. She begins with the Baronov family's flight from Russia during the Revolution, which led them to Romania and later Paris, where at the age of thirteen, Baronova became a star, chosen by the legendary George Balanchine to join the Ballets Russes, where she danced the lead in Swan Lake. Dabei soll unter Betrachtung der Gesamtheit der einzelnen Bewohnerportraits des "Berliner Mietshaus es]" unter Anderem nachvollziehbar erl utert werden, warum sich die Befragten eher als eine anscheinend untereinander anonyme, meist heterogene und willk rlich vom Schicksal zusammengew rfelte Gruppe, nahezu ohne gemeinschaftliche Tenden-zen herausstellen. Auch die Frage, warum das "Berliner Mietshaus" zum Teil als ein "unbequemes, ein ehrliches Buch" rezipiert wurde, welches mit scheinbar "schonungsloser Offenheit damalige] Umst nde" enth llt, soll nicht unbeant-wortet bleiben. Inwiefern lassen sich nun diese zusammengew rfelten Portraits als eine Reflexion der DDR-Gesellschaft verstehen und vor allem mit welcher Intention? Ich m chte beweisen, dass sowohl die einzeln befragten 32 Mietsparteien des "Berliner Mietshaus" als 'Menschengemeinschaft', wie auch das Haus selbst eine symboltr chtige Rolle einnehmen und von Liebmann bewusst zur Darstellung und letztendlich zur Vermittlung der vorgefundenen Ausschnitte zum Leben in der DDR genutzt werden. Unter Einbeziehung und Auswertung der ausgew hlten Sekund rliteratur soll Irina Liebmanns Methodik im Interview selbst, wie die Vorgehensweise bei der literarischen Umsetzung der "Begegnungen und Gespr che," auch durch den Vergleich zum Konzept der g ngigen Interviewliteratur n her beleuchtet werden. Da im Allgemeinen speziell die Literaturlage zu diesem Thema recht sp rlich, andererseits vieles deutungsabh ngig ist, soll meine Arbeit einen Einblick in Liebmanns Vorgehensweise gew hren, um in einer zusammenfassenden Auswer-tung als ein Interpretationsangebot die Frage nach
