1869 avtäcktes en byst föreställande diktaren J A Wadman, som verkade i Göteborg åren 1814-1837. Det är en av de allra tidigaste resta statyerna i staden. Wadman har kallats "Göteborgs Bellman". Det framstår idag som diskutabelt. Det är inte bara orättvist mot Bellman - det skymmer också Wadmans egensinnighet som skald. Och Wadmans Göteborg var en annan stad än Stockholm. Magnus Berg guidar oss på en kulturhistorisk resa i den tidens Göteborg med utgångspunkt i skaldens liv och leverne.
