Today most people, with some notable exceptions, would agree that humans have been responsible in changing the Earth's atmosphere in dramatic ways over the last two centuries and thus causing ?global warming?. Were we to agree, or doggedly ?stick our heads in the sand? and flatly disagree, that the Earth is experiencing a phase of global warming, we all have to accept that very strange things have happened in recent years. Precipitation in excesses has caused flooding of large areas throughout the world. We have seen unprecedented high temperatures causing droughts and unimaginable forest fires whilst, on the other hand, we have been witness to severe drops in temperature. Still, there are those people who insist that there are not such things as the Greenhouse Effect or Global Warming. Perhaps such people are simply misinformed. This book is intended to help us all understand these phenomena better, and to help extract the sadly misinformed from their places in the sand.
Mathematics by Steps (Angles to Vectors)
Pick up any mathematics book and take an objective look at the contents of any one topic. The chances are that the writer falsely believes that prior essential knowledge has already been gained as a precursor to addressing the topic. In truth, the student may have indeed gained some insight to essential knowledge, but this is never made completely clear at the outset and consequently the student is, more often than not, left to look for such relevant associations as best they can. Assumed prior knowledge is often essential, but all too often not made clear, thus resulting in predictable disastrous effects and yet another generation that can sadly boast 'I was never good at mathematics when I was at school'. This book helps to address this problem.

This book represents a 'snapshot' in time. Tomorrow we will discover something new about the humble atom which may modify or even radically change the paradigms we have held so sacrosanct until then. It is hoped, though, that it will present sufficient ground-work as to provide a spring-board to students in their quest for a greater understanding of the atom and of its fundamental particles. It is also hoped that a more profound understanding of the nature of life may also be gained as well as raise begging questions which have not here-to-for been entertained. It is intended to cover much of the syllabus for A-Level and High School studies. Because of the simple language, tables and diagrams however, the subject matter will be easily absorbed by, and be of great interest to, the comparative lay persons among us.

In the comparatively short time since 1953 there have been ground-breaking discoveries that have changed the way we look at ourselves, and have been instrumental in addressing many of the problems associated with 'genetic diseases' in general. A new vocabulary has evolved in the light of these discoveries. Intron, exon, prion, hox, codon, polymerase, epistasis, gyandromorph, telomere, Morgellon's, BRCA and many others have crept into the vocabulary and are being used more and more. The study of Genetics can be very daunting for a student embarking on the adventure for the very first time. This book is intended, initially, to cover much of the syllabus for A-Level and High School studies, but because of the simple language, tables and graphics, however, the subject matter will be easily absorbed by, and be of great interest to, the comparative lay persons among us.

Johnny Duggan was born around the outbreak of World War II. Johnny's story follows his trials and tribulations, his loves and assignations, and his challenges and conflicts, as he moves through the long grass of life from one job to another, through one country to another. He is forced to change his outlook to life many times through his experiences in Africa, Europe, and the USA, as well as the variety of people with whom he comes into contact. In many places, the story is very confrontational and hard hitting, and takes no prisoners. It is not a story for the daunted, nor those who are not prepared to accept the stark, bare, exposed realities of life.

The notes exhibited in this catalogue are Hell 'Bank' Notes. In fact, they are what is called 'faux' money and as such are certainly not justifiable bank notes. They are used in China and many countries in Eat Asia specifically to burn as offerings to the spirits of departed loved ones in the belief that such money can be drawn from the Bank of Hell and used in Paradise. In this context, Hell and Heaven are synonymous with one another. They are an interesting example of 'Exonumia', or paper that does not belong in any way to the realm of strict bank-note collecting.
Selected Biology Advance Level Topics (Volume 1)
This book, of a two book set, takes a look outside the box in many Biological subject areas. That is not to say that only 'outside the box' topics are addressed. The student will find that the understanding of other topics is strengthened by a more liberal approach, looking in greater detail than would generally be done in the normal text book. Furthermore, a 'step-by-step' approach has been adopted for many topics, where tricky concepts are built upon brick-by-brick. Needless to say, there are plenty of illustrations to help bring ideas across to the student. This two volume publication is mainly aimed at advance level Biology students, but there is much that can be read - and enjoyed - by students yet to prepare for their advanced studies. As with its sister publication, 'Easy as you Go', this publication is ideally suited to student, educator and parent alike because of its simplistic, down-to-earth approach, supported by a multitude of visual aids.

A-Star Question Bank (Mathematics) (Without Solutions)
This book presents over 100 A-star problems which you may find in any GCSE Mathematics examination paper. The book comes in two 'flavours', one book contains the 'problems only' and the other with the 'same problems but accompanied by the solutions'. One is suitable as a class-book and for homework, whilst the other for self-study and enrichment. The choice is yours.
Mathematics & Statistics (Biology, Psychology & Chemistry)
'Mathematics and Statistics in Biology, Psychology and Chemistry' comes as the third in the series, following in the footsteps of 'Easy as You Go!" and 'A-Star Question Bank. It fills the vacuum which exists, being caused by the apparent difficulty in professional Biologist, Psychologist and Chemist to effectively teach the necessary Mathematics for their students to pass examinations. Much of the mathematics and statistics for students' studies is admittedly complex, and often it is laid out in course books in a confusing manner. With the exception of Physicists, scientists can be excused in not being as effective as their counterparts in the Mathematics arena. Considerable effort has therefore been exercised in an attempt to address this situation. In Biology and Psychology sections, tables have been used to simplify many of the otherwise daunting procedures. In Chemistry a 'step-by-step' approach as been adopted.

The first US Wooden Nickel 'Flat' was issued in Tenino as a result of the Great Depression in 1931. The issue of such an instrument to cope with the shortage of money at the time proved such a success that other communities quickly followed suit. It was not long before communities were issuing Wooden Nickel 'Flats' to commemorate land-marks in their history. This book looks at just a mere sampling of these interesting bits of Americana and what prompted their issue as commemorative pieces.
Jenny Two-Tails and Her Special Friends
The main character in this book is Jenny, a beautiful Persian cat. She is a very special cat, though, because she has one thing that no other cat normally has. She has two tails! She lives with her two carers, John and Nomsa and they happen to be very fond of animals, especially cats. Jenny therefore has quite a few friends. It turns out that these friends are also special in one sort of way or another. But then, every cat has something special about them.

Hundis refer to financial instruments which evolved on the Indian sub-continent and appear to have been in use there from at least the sixteenth century. They were used in trade and credit transactions and, as such, were used as remittance instruments for the purpose of transfer of funds from one place to another. In the days of the Princely States and the British Raj these hundis served as Travellers Cheques. What makes hundis so interesting is the sheer variety of them and the uses to which they were put. As a safety precaution, moreover, they were usually written in an elaborate script which only bankers knew how to read and write. They are still used in India today, even though the resources of modern banking are available for most commercial transactions.

As a consequence of unfortunate circumstances, and in a vain attempt to protect SHEPSIT, his adopted sister and lover, he is falsely accused of murdering his king. Through his father's intervention, his death sentence is reduced to exile in Swenett, where he is placed under the putative care and protection of his younger brother, DJAU who is Vizier there. In the meantime, Shepsit announces to Khui that she is pregnant with the child of Ga'ab. Fearing retribution, Khui arranges for Shepsit and her slave maid IPSAK to flee to Canaan where they stay until her son, AARON is born, when she then returns to Egypt. Aaron is brought up by Khui's ex-slave JALPET until he is old enough to join the military where he attains the high position of 'Shophet'. Eventually, he returns to Egypt under his Egyptian name, AMMON. He is commissioned by Pepi to kill his father as an act of mercy and to put an end to the cruelty and misery that has been forced upon him by Djau. Later, Ammon goes in search of the hiding place of Teti's true murderer and to wreak vengeance upon him. He ultimately makes his way to the Kingdom of Aksum and there marries the King's daughter, SONJA The story comes up to the present time and to a young lady, ABERGAIL, who has suffered various ailments throughout her life. She plans a holiday to Egypt together with her life-long friend, MAMON. They experience strange things during their short stay in Egypt. This prompts them, when they returned to England, to make a visit to a Spiritualist. The consequences of this fateful visit are far-reaching, both for them and their newly found male friends, THESPIS and JASON.

Tall, handsome and charismatic, James Jaquess impressed men and charmed ladies who knew him as a preacher, a college president or colonel of an Illinois regiment. In 1864 he and James Gilmore talked to Jefferson Davis about terms of peace. Lincoln recognized his many abilities and invited Jaquess to serve as one of his personal agents. But after the Civil War ended, this biography reveals, Jaquess' life changed for the worse. He was tried in Kentucky for the death of a woman and failed as a carpetbagger in Arkansas and Mississippi. Then he convinced his family and friends in Indiana and numerous residents of New York to invest in Lawrence-Townley bonds and share in a fortune waiting in England. This venture ended in poverty for him and a sentence in a British prison. When he returned to America for his final years, Jaquess still held the respect of the men of the 73rd Infantry and the affection of the women who knew him as president of their college in Jacksonville. His misadventures having turned his black hair to white, he still possessed the charisma that had led to his national fame.
