This book offers new ways of constellating the literary and cinematic delineations of Indian and Pakistani Muslim diasporic and migrant trajectories narrated in the two decades after the 9/11 attacks. Focusing on four Pakistani English novels and four Indian Hindi films, it examines the aesthetic complexities of staging the historical nexus of global conflicts and unravels the multiple layers of discourses underlying the notions of diaspora, citizenship, nation and home. It scrutinises the “flirtatious” nature of transnational desires and their role in building glocal safety valves for inclusion and archiving a planetary vision of trauma. It also provides a fresh perspective on the role of Pakistani English novels and mainstream Hindi films in tracing the multiple origins and shifts in national xenophobic practices, and negotiating multiple modalities of political and cultural belonging. It discusses various books and films including The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Burnt Shadows, My Name is Khan, New York, Exit West, Home Fire, AirLift and Tiger Zinda Hai.In light of the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 attacks, current debates on terror, war, paranoid national imaginaries and the suspicion towards migratory movements of refugees, this book makes a significant contribution to the interdisciplinary debates on border controls and human precarity. A crucial work in transnational and diaspora criticism, it will be of great interest to researchers of literature and culture studies, media studies, politics, film studies, and South Asian studies.

Artificial Intelligence and the Transcendental Human - 2084: The Dance of Technology and Consciousness resolves the conflict between the human spirit and the emergent near-life of AI with magical vignettes that disorient and stretch the imagination. Connected story lines illuminate a grand future for humanity, with stepping stones for AI, algorithms, data, and devices that prompt us to create a future safely lit by the new "fire." 2084 is an invitation into the lives of those who understand the higher dimensions of existence-with or without fetal gene enhancement. These superhumans' relationships vibrate with tenderness and respect, their creative endeavors ranging from music and dance to robotics and communications for adventures in space. Essential are ways to cultivate transcendent capacity in children, with a wise and compassionate understanding of human history, its mistakes, and its transformation. With its profound ethical sense, 2084 liberates the reader from the paralysis of dread, from the impulse to rage against looming challenges, and offers options for generating a new humanity from the best within us, including our divine essence and our startling ingenuity.

Water is indispensable and one of the precious natural resources of this planet. Water is the most essential commodity for human consumption and it is one of the renewable resources which must be prevented from deterioration in quality. Its quality plays an important role in the overall water balance in the environment. About 70 per cent of the planet is covered with ocean, and the average depth of the ocean is several thousand meters. More than 97 per cent of the Earth's water is saline and therefore is unusable for drinking purpose because of the salt. About 2 per cent of the planet's water is fresh, but 1.6 per cent of the planet's water is locked up in the polar ice caps and glaciers. Another 0.36 per cent is found under ground in aquifers and wells and only about 0.036 percent of the planet's total water supply is found in lakes and rivers. The quality of drinking water is a vital element of public health and well beings.

Re-reading Jayanta Mahapatra is a selection of the seminal poems of poet Padmashree Jayanta Mahapatra, meticulously selected by Indian English poet Professor Nandini Sahu, with a long critical introduction by her. The book highlights the quality of tranquility and quietude about his poetry, and celebrates the nostalgic elements of Mahapatra's poetry. While the book hardly confines him as a ''Romantic', as he is not prepared to accept the capability of romantic imagination-the book problematizes Mahapatra's dismissal of the term 'romantic' vis- -vis himself. . Nandini argues, his poetry reveals a self that is secluded and withdrawn, but it is romantic to the core. Mahapatra began his poetic career as a poet of love. His earlier poetry tried to capture the multiple facets of love, so as to relate it to the redolent conformation of life. Even if Mahapatra is 'rueful' about his beginning as a love poet, yet it is through his love poetry that he could learn how to establish a rapport with the cultural tradition in his later poetry. Nandini venerates his poetry; as a fellow poet herself, she is proud of belonging to the historiography of Indian English poetry that Mahapatra shaped. His poetry has been the poetry of departure into the self, like a Pantheist, where it is unadorned, moving and still, sans pretense and insincere masks.

Jayanta Mahapatra (1928-2023), a bilingual poet from Odisha, India, wrote prolifically both in English and Odia and was internationally acclaimed. His work has been variously interpreted from the perspectives of his experiments with language as well as use of modern techniques in poetry, his rendering of harsh reality including exploitation and injustice inflicted on the downtrodden, his urge for a total identification with his land and others. Keeping aside Mahapatra's experiments with technique and language, the present book focuses on his relentless self-search alongside his assessment of the outer reality, the nature of his anxieties as revealed in his poems published since 1976, his ethical standpoint and the ongoing conflict between reason and faith suggested through his work. The poet emerges as an eternal traveller searching for truth and love. In the five chapters of the book all these aspects of his poetry have been discussed, with a particular focus on his anxiety that is close to "existentialist angst" and his capacity for immense love that saves him from lapsing into pessimism. Finally, his search for truth has been equated to that of some sages in the Upanishads.

Being Janana focuses on same-sex desiring male-bodied subjects in Lucknow, India, and explores how they make meaning in the marginalization of their desire through language performativity. Along with their desire for other men, jananas maintain ostensibly heteronormatively and culturally defined masculine positions. This book argues for an intersectional approach to understanding janana life worlds and situates janana subjectivity in dialogue with social, cultural, linguistic, and legal happenings. In engaging with the full complexity of janana identities and experience, Ila Nagar calls for a reassessment of gender categories and a new understanding of power and sexuality amidst emerging Indian modernities. Derived from ethnographic research conducted over a period of twelve years, this book also reflects on the interaction between social actors and researchers, and critically examines the use of ethnography as a method in sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology. It will be of interest to scholars from Anthropology, Asian Studies, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and Linguistics.
