JUST CALL ME JOE: THE STORY OF A BOY, AN EAGLE AND A SPECIAL SUMMER This book will be of interest to readers in grades three through six. It will be educational on many levels. Joey and Buddy are fictional characters, but the reader will learn about the culture of the Native American tribe to which they belong. The story is historically correct in that the oil spill actually did happen in 1989 in Valdez, Alaska. The reader will learn interesting facts about the bald eagles, including their size and abilities. The setting is authentic. The Raptor Rehabilitation Center still exists, though it has moved to a new and better facility and is now called The Alaska Raptor Center. Joey finding the injured eagle sets off a set of circumstances that change his summer plans and perhaps his life-long plan.

Die Haupttreuhandstelle Ost, Treuhandstelle Posen war eine Dienststelle des Deutschen Reiches 1939-1945. Sie wurde durch einen Erlass des Beauftragten fur den Vierjahresplan, Hermann Goering, vom 19.10.1939 ins Leben gerufen. Ihre Aufgabe bestand a) in der Erfassung, Beschlagnahme und Verwaltung respektive Verwertung und Verkauf des Vermoegens des zerschlagenen polnischen Staates, b) das Geld- und Kreditwesen im Zustandigkeitsbereich zu regeln und c) samtliche dafur erforderlichen wirtschaftlichen und finanztechnischen Massnahmen zu ergreifen sowie die notwendigen Verhandlungen zu fuhren und die Verrechnungsoperationen vorzunehmen. Ihr Handeln war in jeder Hinsicht voelkerrechtswidrig. Nach dem Krieg kamen Mitarbeiter der Haupttreuhandstelle Ost fur ihre Verbrechen weitgehend unbestraft davon. Fur die Tatigkeit der Haupttreuhandstelle Ost haben die Rechtsnachfolger des Deutschen Reiches kaum Reparationen bezahlt. Bislang gab es keine Monographien zu diesem Thema. Diese Arbeit stellt nur einen Anfang der Geschichte der Wirtschaftsverbrechen in Polen wahrend des Zweiten Weltkrieges dar.

Alors qu'il est tendu dans l'herbe pr s d'un cimeti re, il surprend une conversation entre deux paysans. Ceux-ci voquent demi-mot une l gende du pays affirmant qu'un veau d'or est enterr cet endroit. Ils parlent aussi d'une vieille femme qui est en train de mourir, La Tula, consid r e dans le pays comme une bonne sorci re. Guillaume r alise que la mourante est sa nourrice. Quelques ann es auparavant, elle a t chass e sans m nagement du ch teau de Boussac, car la ch telaine trouvait qu'elle plaisait trop son mari. Honteux de la conduite de sa famille, Guillaume veut s'excuser aupr s de La Tula avant qu'elle ne meure. Il se pr cipite donc vers sa demeure. Le chemin tant parsem de pi ges mar cageux, on lui impose, comme guide, une jeune fille nomm e Claudie qui se trouve tre l'amie de Jeanne, la fille de la Tula. Guillaume arrive trop tard. Tula est morte. Autour de sa d pouille sont rassembl es quelques voisines, Jeanne et sa tante, La Grand Gothe. On dit de cette derni re qu'elle fait de la magie noire et qu'elle jette des sorts aux animaux pour qu'ils d p rissent. En r alit , c'est une entremetteuse qui d tourne les berg res de leurs troupeaux. Elle les vend aux messieurs de la ville amateurs de fleurs des champs. Parmi ceux-ci figure L on Marsillat, qui exerce pr sent le m tier d'avocat. Sa vie dissolue l'a peu peu loign de Guillaume qui prouve un grand d plaisir le voir appara tre dans la maison en deuil. La Grand Gothe hait sa ni ce Jeanne qu'elle n'a pas r ussi pervertir. Elle l'envoie faire des courses en sachant que la jeune fille pr f rerait rester aupr s de sa m re. Jeanne quitte tristement son foyer accompagn e de Guillaume, Claudie et L on. Pendant leur absence, un incendie ravage la maison de la Tula. La Grand Gothe montre une effroyable s cheresse de coeur en abandonnant la d pouille de sa soeur au profit de sa vaisselle. Jeanne surgit temps pour arracher aux flammes le corps de sa m re. Elle fait preuve d'une bravoure presque surnaturelle. La maison d truite, elle est d livr e de sa tante pour laquelle elle n' prouve plus d'attachement. Elle veille la Tula en compagnie de Guillaume, Claudie et L on. Comme dans la l gende des Lavandi res, une apparition nocturne effraie le petit groupe. Guillaume et L on se lancent sa poursuite. Guillaume est bless la t te par un jet de pierre. Jeanne se laisse persuader par le cur de son village d'aller travailler au ch teau de Boussac, en compagnie de Claudie.
