Father-son relationships can be notoriously difficult. Often fractious, sometimes hostile, and occasionally destructive, the issue of authority is negotiated by fathers and sons in a range of styles. In this fascinating new book, John Crosby describes the filial relationships of 20 historical figures to illustrate the different ways they related to their fathers, and what this can tell us about love, authority and the wider family context.Sons and Fathers is an approach to understanding this son-father conflict based on early life experience rather than upon psycho-historian or psycho-biographical material and theorizing. Each vignette is designed to be read as a biographical account, but is bookended by a section reflecting on how each man’s relationship to his father can be understood in the context of key developmental theories, in particular those of Eric Erikson and Murray Bowen’s family system theory. The book also includes an extended introduction to both theorists for those unfamiliar with their work, as well as a discussion of the role of corporal punishment as a method of disciplining children. From Michael Jackson to Bing Crosby, Joseph Stalin to John F Kennedy, this is a uniquely accessible but insightful book that will appeal to both general readers as well as students of Developmental Psychology across the lifespan, Family Studies, Marriage and Family therapy, and related subjects. It will also appeal to professionals working in the area, including social workers, counsellors and therapists.

Spanish Flu Epidemic Of 1918
Are you looking for a complete guide on pandemic? Then keep reading Why was the Spanish Flu known as the Spanish Flu? What caused the Spanish Flu? Where did the Spanish Flu come from? Why was it known as the 'Spanish Flu' The Spanish Flu did not originate in Spain, although news insurance of it did. At some point of global warfare, Spain was an impartial united state with an unfastened media that covered the outbreak from the start, first reporting on it in Madrid in late 1918. In the meantime, Allied countries and the crucial Powers had wartime censors who protected up information of the Flu to hold excessive morale. Because Spanish information resources were the most effective ones reporting at the Flu, many believed it originated there (the Spanish, in the meantime, believed the virus came from France and called it the "French Flu.") Scientists up to this day do not understand how the country did the Spanish Flu originated, though theories factor to France, China, Britain, or the USA, where the first acknowledged case was pronounced at Camp Funston in citadel Riley, Kansas, on March 11, 1918. A few believe infected infantrymen unfold the sickness to other navy camps throughout the United States of America, then delivered it to distant places. In March 1918, 84,000 American infantrymen headed across the Atlantic and had been accompanied with the aid of 118,000 more the following month. This book covers: - History Of Flu Epidemic Of 1918 - The Rampant Virus - How Did The Flu Epidemic Of 1918 Spread? - Toward The End Of The Great War - The War And Virus That Changed World And much more It is unknown precisely where the unique stress of influenza that induced the pandemic came from; however, the 1918 flu was first found in Europe, the USA, and regions of Asia earlier than spreading to nearly every different part of the planet months.

PONDERING THE INTERSECTION OF GOD'S WORD AND YOUR LEADERSHIP?Called to Coach is written for coaches who work hard-sometimes too hard-and know how to quickly size up what is a waste of time. It is for coaches who are looking for something solid. It is for coaches who know that real ministry takes place in the opportunities of everyday life, rather than simply sitting in rows on Sunday morning or around a campfire singing kumbaya. It is for coaches who recognize that the Bible is the greatest source of leadership principles the world has ever known. It is for coaches eager to close the gap between the leader you are and the leader God created you to be.So sit back in your favorite chair and start your week investing a few minutes pondering the intersection of God's Word and your life and leadership. We're confident you'll be glad you did.EndorsementsWhen I started reading Called to Coach I was unable to stop. I felt like I had been hit right between the eyes. "Aletheia," an international yearbook of philosophy, is devoted to the systematic inquiry into the central themes of Western philosophy, such as the nature and kinds of knowledge, the foundations of morality, the nature of substance, of causality, value, the person, beauty, and religion. The yearbook seeks to continue the philosophical tradition of the early phenomenological realists (e.g. the early Husserl, Adolf Reinach, Alexander Pfander, Max Scheler, Roman Ingarden, and Dietrich von Hildebrand) who, in opposing historicism and Kantianism, turned -back to things themselves-. In overcoming the relativization of truth and being to individual minds, to language, economic or historical processes, or to transcendental consciousness, "Aletheia" seeks to provide a phenomenological foundation for classical realism. "Aletheia" also maintains a close and vital relationship with the Polish school of personalism and ethics (e.g. Roman Ingarden, Tadeusz Styczeń, and Karol Wojtyła), and it is hoped that the relatively recent interest of analytic philosophers in the work of Husserl, Reinach, Ingarden and others will provide new opportunities for exchange."
