Like most authors, Mark Twain wrote from personal experience, but, unlike many authors, he left behind a wealth of autobiographical material recording those personal experiences. His autobiography, letters, speeches, and notebooks contain many references to events similar to those presented in Tom Sawyer. This book, in some measure, satisfies those whose curiosity is piqued by that simple admission by Twain. Evans edits and juxtaposes excerpts from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer with excerpts from Twain's personal writings. Evans presents forty-six episodes, in order of occurrence, from Tom Sawyer; he adds editorial commentary only in order to clarify links between plot synopsis and autobiographical material. The result is an overview of Twain's childhood with a focus on the events that shaped his life and art.

Participatory Mapping of Territoriality Across Florida’s Beaches

This book offers a theoretical and practical exploration of the beach as space and places unique disciplinary lenses (Political Science and Geography). If we accept that what one possesses, one has a claim to, becoming property, then how that possession is enforced, socially, makes all the difference in defining what constitutes territoriality. Morgan and his colleagues have carried out various studies and applied various methods to study the developing coast of Florida. From these efforts, we compare the different regions of the State (e.g., Florida panhandle vs. South Florida) in terms of local beach culture and economics to unpack the topic of tension between beach property and access using firsthand accounts in many cases. This book approaches the complex topic of territoriality on Florida’s beaches from multiple perspectives but related methods involving time geography, a public space index, participatory mapping/cartography, and transboundary viewsheds. This analysis illustrates the fruitfulness of conceptualizations of property that are complex, multiplicative, and evolving. It calls for a recognition of human rights to the commons -- both now and in the future. And it highlights the constructed nature of public space - as a space that provides meaning through bodily performance and encounter. Approaches the complex topic of territoriality on Florida’s beaches from methods of participatory mapping/cartography and performance art.Offers a theoretical and practical exploration of the beach as space and place.Utilizes the lens of territoriality and field-based participant cartographic mapping to understand better how the developed shoreline is territorialized.

The information in this book is based entirely on the eyewitness accounts in the National Archives and not on the newspaper accounts of 1865. The eyewitness accounts are far different than the newspaper accounts and for this reason were kept from the public by the U.S. Army until 1965 when they became available in the National Archives. The newspaper accounts of 1865 were based entirely on what Joseph Holt told them and could best be labeled "fake news." If you are interested in a factual account of Lincoln's assassination, this is the only book available. As an added bonus the contribution of the African-American community of 1865 to apprehend the conspirators is well documented. John Morris was a colored worker in Ford's Theater and their efforts are best described by his sworn statement " The colored people believe Mr. Lincoln to be the best friend that we had. I would go to the point of my life to find out the murderers." Again, this is the only publication with these facts. I have included the photocopies of the statements which also indicate that the Ford's were involved in the conspiracy to such an extent that Col. Burnett had Harry Ford put in solitary confinement. Read and judge for yourself whether the Union Army got away with the most infamous murder in the history of the United States. The only book ever published that records the effort of the African American community of 1865 to bring the conspirators to justice. Their affection for Abraham Lincoln was so great that they ignored the retribution that was certain for defying the government conspirators and seven African Americans were arrested and put in prison. This is the story of the assassination whose perpetrators were hidden for 150 years. The meticulous preparations of the conspirators are brought to light by the documents and evidence that was collected at the time, but obscured from public view in the national archives.
