W. Cayd McKenzie lands on what at first appears to be a dessert world. Within hours curiosity and circumstances separate him from his ship and take him on a forced walk of several days towards what he hopes is a mountain oasis. The mountain with it's inaccessible peaks becomes the bulwark of an island that is surrounded by water within hours of his climbing to safety. The discovery of a human-like skeleton, and the very real threat of two creatures reminiscent of earth's Jurassic period are encouragement for him to seek refuge on the other side of the range. Becoming familiar with the island introduces him to aliens very much like himself who have an association with a race of intelligent dinosaurs called The Lanark. In the process he is hunted, used as target practice, and becomes the den mother of a newly hatched Lanark pup. When he finally makes contact with the alien humanoids, The Nury, who are attacked by an aggressive enemy who has been seeking to destroy all their habitations. The recovery of his ship becomes paramount; the escape into space the only hope of survival.

Lakes and Watersheds in the Sierra Nevada of California

Lakes and Watersheds in the Sierra Nevada of California

The Sierra Nevada, California’s iconic mountain range, harbors thousands of remote high-elevations lakes from which water flows to sustain agriculture and cities. As climate and air quality in the region change, so do the watershed processes upon which these lakes depend. In order to understand the future of California’s ecology and natural resources, we need an integrated account of the environmental processes that underlie these aquatic systems. Synthesizing over three decades of research on the lakes and watersheds of the Sierra Nevada, this book develops an integrated account of the hydrological and biogeochemical systems that sustain them. With a focus on Emerald Lake in Sequoia National Park, the book marshals long-term limnological and ecological data to provide a detailed and synthetic account, while also highlighting the vulnerability of Sierra lakes to changes in climate and atmospheric deposition. In so doing, it lays the scientific foundations for predicting and understanding how the lakes and watersheds will respond.

Jesus came to give us life.Jesus called twelve men to be His disciples, but three fishermen–Peter, James, and John–shared a special relationship with Him. They were given direct access to some of the more pivotal events in Jesus’ ministry, such as the transfiguration, His raising of Lazarus from the dead, and His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. John’s account thus gives us a unique glimpse from one of Jesus’ closest disciples into the significance of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. John reveals how Jesus came to provide “living water” to quench our deep spiritual thirst for the things of God. He shows how Jesus is the “bread of life” who satisfies our deep spiritual hunger. And he reveals how Jesus is the only way we can obtain that living water and bread of life, for “no one comes to the Father” except through Him.The Jeremiah Bible Study Series captures Dr. David Jeremiah’s forty-plus years of commitment to teaching the Word of God. In each study, he will help you understand what the Bible says, what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to you today. Along the way, you will gain insights into the text, identify key stories and themes, and be challenged to apply the truth you find in your life.

Creative, engaging Bible study questions are hard to come by … without rewriting questions for yourself. Each book of questions leads a small group through a book (or combination of books) in the Bible—helping students become more biblically literate, and allowing them to come face-to-face with God’s Word. Students will be pushed, encouraged, and challenged by these studies. But more than all this, they will be changed. Each passage of Scripture sets the topic—and the questions are constructed to help students think deeply, talk openly, and apply what they are learning to their lives. Leaders will be able to pick it up and use it immediately with kids. Volunteers are looking for good “book of the Bible studies” they can pick up and use in their groups. Grab it and go, these studies will meet your students where they are and help them see how God’s Word can speak to their world.

To bring the ancient messages of the Bible into today's context, each passage is treated in three sections:Original Meaning. A bridge between the world of the Bible and the world of today, built by discerning what is timeless in the timely pages of the Bible.Contemporary Significance. This section identifies comparable situations to those faced in the Bible and explores relevant application of the biblical messages. The author alerts the readers of problems they may encounter when seeking to apply the passage and helps them think through the issues involved. This unique, award-winning commentary is the ideal resource for today's preachers, teachers, and serious students of the Bible, giving them the tools, ideas, and insights they need to communicate God's Word with the same powerful impact it had when it was first written. The book you receive may have a different cover design than shown on the website.
