God's faithfulness is on display throughout Scripture but is especially evident in the books of Jonah, Amos, and Hosea. Through the lives, examples, and messages of these three prophets, we see God’s constant love and forgiveness for Jews and Gentiles alike in spite of blatant disobedience, spiritual adultery, inappropriate worship, and a lack of justice. In the twelve studies within, join John MacArthur to focus on these “Minor Prophets”—so called for their brevity rather than their importance. By working through this study, you will learn that in your life, just as in the lives of the people of Israel, God’s faithfulness is unending—even when our faithlessness is constant.—ABOUT THE SERIES—The MacArthur Bible Study series is designed to help you study the Word of God with guidance from widely respected pastor and author John MacArthur. Each guide provides intriguing examinations of the whole of Scripture by examining its parts and incorporates:Extensive, but straight-forward commentary on the text.Detailed observations on overriding themes, timelines, history, and context.Word and phrase studies to help you unlock the broader meaning and apply it to your life.Probing, interactive questions with plenty of space to write down your response and thoughts.

These prophets were writing in the time period 7th to 8th Century BC. Nahum, Habakkuk and Zephaniah were all writing towards the end of the 7th Century BC. Micah’s is the oldest prophecy here, he was a contemporary of Isaiah, Jonah came in between at the start of the 7th Century. The major prophetic themes of the destruction of Israel’s enemies, the judgement of God upon Israel when she turns from him, and the peace that would result from living in harmony with God, are all here. There is also Messianic and future prophetic themes – such as the eternal reign of a king from the line of David (Micah) and the destruction of Jerusalem (Zephaniah). This fascinating period of Bible history is full of drama, wisdom and insight. This book is an extended edition of his previous commentary ‘God’s Just Demands’ about the first three prophets in the current title.

A Poetry Book Society Recommendation John F. Deane’s new book follows the publication of his career-spanning New and Selected Poems, which was published on the occasion of his eightieth birthday in 2023 and shows no relaxation in his descriptive and lyric powers. Ireland’s foremost living religious poet, the new book includes a sequence, ‘Of Human Flesh’, which takes Easter’s rituals as its occasion, and dwells on its continuing purchase and meaning as the poet remembers others and walks a landscape where, sometimes, as he puts it, the spiritual and material worlds come together: ‘all here fits together, oxbow and pillow-stone, holon and fractal, stunning, admonishing, this morphogenic field.’ The poems bear witness to a number of different Irelands, and one memorable sequence tracks a family heirloom, a carriage clock, through three different marriages in 1897, 1906 and 1940. Alive to what is comical and even enchanting, his steadfast faith is as well captured in his grip on a childhood memory of Jonah, his ‘Bunnacurry mule, big and raw, / stubborn in hardship and unwilling’, with whom he is partnered in what the poem calls a ‘slow, uncomely, cosmic dance’.
