Foundations of Theology is a unique systematic theology constructed from a review and consideration of biblical, historical (primarily the early church, the Reformation, and revivals), and contemporary sources. Significantly, the theology of Ellen White is referred to in most sections and is considered the foundation source for other inclusions. Furthermore, Foundations of Theology is a contemporary theology that is profoundly Arminian and Wesleyan, but also refers to Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Karl Barth. It is intended for a broad audience, being academic in its referencing, but accessible in its discussion.

This book presents a look at one of the first major railway disasters in Britain, the fall of the Dee bridge in May 1847, which occurred just outside Chester with the loss of five lives. The main line from Holyhead to Chester had only been opened six months before, and the chief engineer Robert Stephenson was slated nationally (almost being accused of manslaughter) as his cast-iron bridge had failed so catastrophically. Luckily, only a local train was passing and so few lives were lost. Full of detailed technical insight and illustrated with a wealth of contemporary material, this informative book will be of great use for engineering students and historians, as the Dee bridge is an often cited case study of bridge failure along with the Tay and Tacoma Narrows bridges. It will also appeal to interested locals, and railway enthusiasts.

This is the first clear and non-technical introduction to philosophy through the works of the 18th century philosopher, David Hume. It covers every major philosophical issue commented upon by Hume, from epistemology, philosophy of mind, and metaphysics, to ethics and political philosophy, and the philosophy of religion. Looking first at Hume's discussion of each topic and clarifying his thoughts in jargon-free language, the book then relates his ideas to current contemporary thought. Readers are taken gently through both 18th century and contemporary philosophies and given lucid accounts of the key issues in each. Contents: Introduction; Where Does Thought Begin?; How Does Thought Proceed?; What Do We Mean by Cause and How Do We Reason from Experience?; What Do We Mean by Cause? II; Is It Rational to Be Guided by Experience?; What Is It to Believe that Something Is the Case?; Are Our Choices Free?; What Constitutes the Identity of a Person?; How Do Emotions Work?; The Mechanism of Sympathy; How to Make Moral Judgements; Is Religious Belief Rational?

Between Heaven and Hell – A Dialog Somewhere Beyond Death with John F. Kennedy, C. S. Lewis and Aldous Huxley
On November 22, 1963, three great men died within a few hours of each other: C. S. Lewis, John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley. All three believed, in different ways, that death is not the end of human life. Suppose they were right, and suppose they met after death. How might the conversation go? Peter Kreeft imagines their discussion as part of the great conversation that has been going on for centuries about life's biggest questions. Does human life have meaning? Is it possible to know about life after death? What if one could prove that Jesus was God? With Kennedy taking the role of a modern humanist, Lewis representing Christian theism and Huxley advocating Eastern pantheism, the dialogue is lively and informative. With clarity and wit, Between Heaven and Hell presents insightful responses to common objections to the Christian faith. This classic apologetics work is now available as part of the IVP Signature Collection, which features special editions of iconic books in celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of InterVarsity Press.
Literarische Kulturkritik ALS Dekodierung Von Macht Und Werten Am Beispiel Ausgewaehlter Romane Von Upton Sinclair, Frank Norris, John DOS Passos Und Sinclair Lewis

A Concise, Comprehensive Approach to Java Programming Java Foundations is a comprehensive textbook for introductory programming sequences. The versatile layout supports a two-or three-semester schedule and introduces you to the world of programming—from the basics, to complex data structures. Inspired by the success of their highly successful text, Java Software Solutions, authors Lewis, DePasquale and Chase build a solid framework for lasting comprehension. The Fourth Edition is updated and revised to keep the content fully up-to-speed while incorporating changes from user feedback. One such revision is maintaining a section on Swing in addition to a separate chapter dedicated to JavaFX. Although JavaFX is slated to replace Swing as the main graphics package in Java, the large amount of existing Swing code will continue to make it relevant for some time to come. The overall flow of the text is redesigned for intuitive progression through programming discussions and problem solving.

For courses in Java Programming. A comprehensive, cohesive, and seamless exploration of Java programming Java Foundations is a comprehensive textbook for introductory programming sequences. The versatile layout supports a two-or three-semester sequence and introduces students to the world of programming–from basic programming concepts to the design and implementation of complex data structures. Inspired by the success of their industry-leading text, Java Software Solutions, authors Lewis, DePasquale, and Chase build a solid framework for lasting comprehension. The 5th Edition is updated to keep the content fully up-to-speed while incorporating changes from user feedback. The biggest change in this edition is the overhaul of the graphical content to fully embrace the JavaFX platform, which has replaced Swing as the supported technology for graphics and Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) in Java. The switch over to the new approach simplifies GUI development and provides better opportunities to discuss object-oriented programming.
Regularity Estimates for Nonlinear Elliptic and Parabolic Problems

Regularity Estimates for Nonlinear Elliptic and Parabolic Problems

The issue of regularity has played a central role in the theory of Partial Differential Equations almost since its inception, and despite the tremendous advances made it still remains a very fruitful research field. In particular considerable strides have been made in regularity estimates for degenerate and singular elliptic and parabolic equations over the last several years, and in many unexpected and challenging directions. Because of all these recent results, it seemed high time to create an overview that would highlight emerging trends and issues in this fascinating research topic in a proper and effective way. The course aimed to show the deep connections between these topics and to open new research directions through the contributions of leading experts in all of these fields.

Archipelago is one of the most important and influential literary magazines of the last twenty years. Running to twelve editions, it was edited by Andrew McNeillie, with the assistance later of James McDonald Lockhart, and began as an attempt to reimagine the relationships between the islands of Ireland and Britain. Archipelago has brought together established and emerging artists in creative conversations that have transformed the study of islands, coasts and waterways. It journeys from the Shetlands to Cornwall, from the Aran Islands to the coast of Yorkshire, tracing the cultures of diverse zones through some of the best in contemporary writing about place and people. This collection gathers poetry, prose and visual art in clusters grouped around the Irish and British archipelago, with contributions from an array of significant artists. It includes newly commissioned work as well as an interview between Andrew McNeillie and Robert Macfarlane on the development of Archipelago across the years.
