Keynes on Monetary Policy, Finance and Uncertainty
This book provides a reassessment of Keynes’ theory of liquidity preference. It argues that the failure of the Keynesian revolution to be made in either theory or practice owes importantly to the fact that the role of liquidity preference theory as a pivotal element in Keynes’ General Theory has remained underexplored and indeed widely misunderstood even among Keynes’ followers and until today. The book elaborates on and extends Keynes’ conceptual framework, moving it from the closed economy to the global economy context, and applies liquidity preference theory to current events and prominent hypotheses in global finance. Jörg Bibow presents Keynes’ liquidity preference theory as a distinctive and highly relevant approach to monetary theory offering a conceptual framework of general applicability for explaining the role and functioning of the financial system. He argues that, in a dynamic context, liquidity preference theory may best be understood as a theory of financial intermediation. Through applications to current events and prominent hypotheses in global finance, this book underlines the richness, continued relevance, and superiority of Keynes’ theory of liquidity preference; with Hyman Minsky standing out for developing Keynes’ vision of financial capitalism.

This title was first published in 2002: Jörg Breu belonged to the generation of German Renaissance artists that included Dürer, Cranach, Grünewald, Altdorfer, and, in his own city of Augsburg, Hans Burgkmair the Elder. His art registered the early reception of Italian art in Germany and spanned the dramatic years of the Reformation in Augsburg, when the city was riven with social and religious tensions. Uniquely, for a German artist, Breu left a diary chronicling his reaction to the massive social and cultural forces that engulfed him, including his own conversion to the Protestant cause. His story is representative of the condition of many artists during the Reformation years living through this watershed between two cultural eras, which witnessed the transfer of creative energies from religious painting to secular and applied forms of art. In this wide ranging and original study, Andrew Morrall examines the effect of these events on the nature and practice of Jörg Breu's art and its reception, not just in his own period, but right up to the present day.

Their posters manifest a reduced expression, convincing in a poetic-sensuous manner while challenging intellectually. In particular the posters advertising exhibitions convey complex contents in a puristic and timeless form. The creations by Hamburger are characterised by a more pro- nounced adherence to tradition-while Staehelin's experimental openness often leads to surprising results. The joint works of the two reveal the mutual appreciation and fruitfulness of the professional exchange; sensitively developed posters for the Museum of Design re ect an inspiring combination of graphic design principles and a pure delight in creative design. With an essay by Claude Lichtenstein
Jorg Hartig. REALPOP

Jorg Hartig. REALPOP

De Gruyter
2017
isokokoinen pokkari
Throughout his life, Jorg Hartig has taken his inspiration from his immediate environment – from phenomena of modern civilization and culture. He particularly engaged with their issues and problems, which has added a strong component of contemporary criticism to his work. Hartig’s work is always tied to reality in key subject groups, which characterize both the artist himself and, metaphorically, the respective time period. He himself describes his oeuvre as REAL POP. Hartig’s treatment of color in his mostly large-format pictures is masterly. An interview with the artist highlights his pioneering role in the use of acrylic paint in Austria. The richly illustrated book provides a comprehensive insight into the oeuvre and life of the artist.

75 years after the end of World War 2, members of an extremist nationalist party have been elected into German parliaments, once more. How was this possible? And what does this tell about a country which has until today not adequately dealt with parts of its own past, particularly with the atrocities committed in the neighbouring Poland? Having lived in the US for almost two decades, professor of photography Jörg Colberg (*1968) attempts to understand what is going on within his native country and, given his own biography, to what extent he still is part of the whole complex. Text in English, German, and Polish.
