Friedrich bedeutendsten deutschen Landschaftsmalers des fruhen 19. Jahrhunderts. In Wort und Bild dokumentiert Koch hier die Eindrucke und Erlebnisse einer achttagigen Fussreise, die durch seinen Freundeskreis an der Hohen Carlsschule in Stuttgart inspiriert wurde und die in der Tradition der burgerlichen Bildungsreise steht. Carl Joseph Anton Mittermaier (1787-1867) hat das Strafprozessrecht und seine Entwicklung zwischen 1809 und 1866 in zahllosen Beiträgen behandelt. Sie decken den gesamten Zeitraum ab, der für die Entstehung des reformierten Strafprozesses relevant ist und erfassen den Strafprozess in all seinen Details. Mittermaier maß der "Erfahrung" und den neuen Disziplinen der Gerichtsmedizin, Strafrechtsvergleichung, Kriminalpolitik und Gefängniskunde weitaus größere Bedeutung zu als der vormaligen strafrechtlichen Leitwissenschaft, der Philosophie. Unbestritten ist die Rolle, die Mittermaier als Vermittler von Kenntnissen über das für den Reformprozess als Regelungsmuster bedeutsame ausländische (Strafprozess-)Recht wahrgenommen hat. Seine Bedeutung als Strafprozessrechtsdogmatiker wird dagegen durchaus kritisch gesehen. Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes gehen der Frage nach, ob und inwieweit die strafprozessualen Arbeiten Mittermaiers aus heutiger Sicht bleibenden Stellenwert haben.

Den fraglos wichtigsten Beitrag in Deutschland leistete der grosse Heidelberger Kriminalist C.J.A. Mittermaier (1787-1867), der sich zeitlebens kontinuierlich mit dem Problem auseinandersetzte. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert dieses beachtliche Segment des Mittermaier'schen Werkes unter entwicklungsgeschichtlichen, literarischen, inhaltlichen und methodischen Gesichtspunkten.
