Chemical Thermodynamics and Statistical Aspects: Questions to Ask in Fundamentals and Principles covers a full range of topics in macroscopic and statistical thermodynamics. Every step in the book is compiled with sharp and precise attention to detail. Derivations cover fundamental relationships and reinforce and extend the knowledge gained form an earlier exposure to thermodynamics. The book is filled with all kinds of physics processes, a variety of quantum mechanics, and calculus problems involving timely mathematical functions. Special emphases is given to fundamental concepts and their chemical interpretations, which are essential to understanding molecular formation and reaction mechanism. This book will be a useful reference source for undergraduates and postgraduates taking courses in chemistry, students in chemical engineering, and those in the materials sciences. It will also be of value to research workers who would like an introduction to the essential principles of physical chemistry.

Addresses the full gamut of questions in metalloprotein science Formatted as a question-and-answer guide, this book examines all major families of metal binding proteins, presenting our most current understanding of their structural, physicochemical, and functional properties. Moreover, it introduces new and emerging medical applications of metalloproteins. Readers will discover both the underlying chemistry and biology of this important area of research in bioinorganic chemistry. Chemistry of Metalloproteins features a building block approach that enables readers to master the basics and then advance to more sophisticated topics. The book begins with a general introduction to bioinorganic chemistry and metalloproteins. Next, it covers: Alkali and alkaline earth cationsMetalloenzymesCopper proteinsIron proteinsVitamin B12Chlorophyll Chapters are richly illustrated to help readers fully grasp all the chemical concepts that govern the biological action of metalloproteins. In addition, each chapter ends with a list of suggested original research articles and reviews for further investigation of individual topics. Presenting our most current understanding of metalloproteins, Chemistry of Metalloproteins is recommended for students and researchers in coordination chemistry, biology, and medicine. Each volume of the Wiley Series in Protein and Peptide Science addresses a specific facet of the field, reviewing the latest findings and presenting a broad range of perspectives. The volumes in this series constitute essential reading for biochemists, biophysicists, molecular biologists, geneticists, cell biologists, and physiologists as well as researchers in drug design and development, proteomics, and molecular medicine with an interest in proteins and peptides.

SCN2A encodes a voltage-gated sodium channel (designated NaV1.2) vital for generating neuronal action potentials. Pathogenic SCN2A variants are associated with a diverse array of neurodevelopmental disorders featuring neonatal or infantile onset epilepsy, developmental delay, autism, intellectual disability and movement disorders. SCN2A is a high confidence risk gene for autism spectrum disorder and a commonly discovered cause of neonatal onset epilepsy. This remarkable clinical heterogeneity is mirrored by extensive allelic heterogeneity and complex genotype-phenotype relationships partially explained by divergent functional consequences of pathogenic variants. Emerging therapeutic strategies targeted to specific patterns of NaV1.2 dysfunction offer hope to improving the lives of individuals affected by SCN2A-related disorders. This Element provides a review of the clinical features, genetic basis, pathophysiology, pharmacology and treatment of these genetic conditions authored by leading experts in the field and accompanied by perspectives shared by affected families. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

"There could be no doubt Tommy was terminal." So begins the story of the gruesome murder of Tommy Francone, a Mafia soldier, found dead tied to an East Boston pier and the murder trial of Tony Domainio, Boston's Mafia boss. Joseph J. Balliro has been a criminal defense attoreny for over 5 decades. Known as the "Dean of the Defense Bar", attorney Balliro has tried over 500 murders and over 3000 criminal cases in his career. "Wiring Justice" gives the reader an inside look at the gritty underbelly of true-to-life organized crime in Boston, police, lawyers, and jurors and the manipulation exercised as each attempts to "wire" justice to their benefit. The reader is gripped by a story that includes young Joe Balliro and his association with Tony Domainio, the different paths they took culminating with Tony on trial for murder and Joe Balliro, his friend, defending him against the excesses of the prosecution, organized crime, and even a juror hell bent to extremes on seeing Tony convicted. There can be no more exciting a story for the reader who enjoys a behind-the-scenes exciting read, action, drama, and accurate historical reference.
