How has Judith Butler’s writing contributed to thought in the Social Sciences and the Humanities? The participants in this project draw on various aspects of Butler’s conceptual work and they question how it has opened up the possibilities of thought in areas of study as diverse as theatre studies, education and narrative therapy. In a format that demands careful listening and response, the scholars in this book interact with Butler, her writing, and each other. Within this dynamic space they take up Butler’s body of work and carry it in new and exciting directions. Their conversations and writing are, in turn, funny, exciting, surprising and moving.

What charms us most in this anthology is the song of all the voices together: the sense of a group of poets who unreservedly love the world and sing its praise through exultation and lament. There is such care and attention here, not only in described events, but in detail and naming, in synchronicity, emotion, the evocation of ritual within the ordinary. In all their diversity, here is a oneness of celebration in which we can join.Rose FlintThe test of myths and metaphors is not whether they are 'true; but how they relate to things around us. Those here act as a lens through which eight writers refreshingly different in voice and personality come to see their landscapes in detail, with love and concern.Philip GrossThere has perhaps never been a better time for this book to be coming into print. Again and again we are brought back to the land, to the creatures, to the trees, to the things we can't live without. These varied and wide-ranging poems revel in magic that comes from close observation as well as a deep understanding of the earth's intelligence.Alyson Hallett

Most qualitative researchers work on teams at some point. Qualitative Research and Complex Teams charts new methodological territory by providing hands-on help for qualitative researchers working on team projects. Useful to those working with a purely qualitative research design or mixed methods, the text provides a unique focus on writing and communications, offering strategies for all stages of the process from research design to final product. This volume provides an overview of the research related to team-based work, as well as a discussion of relevant changes in approaches to writing in the field. Readers will learn how to initiate team-based work through a digital tool kit approach, organize systems to insure efficiency, and undertake the process of bringing together and training diverse teams. Jargon-free, this book provides strong guidance for thinking about the joint arenas of methodological and substantive writing, and it develops ways to further the aims of both as the project proceeds.

Originally published in 1988. Much has changed since then in schools. Mobile technologies, interactive whiteboards, digital texts, class websites, student-authored blogs, social networking and photo sharing sites found integrated into so many classrooms hadn’t even been imagined by most educators. What hasn’t changed, however, are the developmental needs of adolescents. A sense of competence, opportunities for creative expression, positive social interactions, and opportunities for self-definition remain centrally important. Similarly, print literacy (i.e., reading and writing with traditional orthography) continues to contribute strongly to academic success, employment opportunity, health, and life satisfaction. Consequently, this book remains very relevant today. Through case descriptions of literacy programs situated in formal and informal settings, the book draws attention to the ways that developmental appropriateness and engaging literacy instruction can assist all youth in reaching their full potential as readers and writers.

"Di Gregorio & Davidson provide an essential guide for qualitative researchers who wish to get to grips with the potential of software packages for handling qualitative data, research design and ethical and privacy issues ... The authors open up new ground … by integrating the discussion of qualitative data analysis software into the wider context of methodological practice. The authors' arguments and general approach are illustrated in an accessible and engaging manner through the use of detailed case studies of qualitative research using a range of software packages. A smooth read, crammed full of invaluable advice and 'best practice' guidelines and checklists…"Derek Layder, University of Leicester, UKThis book is an essential guide for anyone using qualitative data analysis software (QDAS), particularly useful for those who want to go beyond a basic introduction to discover how to get the most out of software and how to identify the methodological issues they need to consider. The book is organized in three parts - the first part addresses the methodological issues that need to be addressed when designing qualitative research using QDAS; the second part uses case studies to demonstrate the issues and the design framework introduced in the first part. These chapters are supported by numerous screenshots illustrating the software under discussion. The last part contains practical appendices to help readers apply the framework introduced to their own research.Di Gregorio and Davidson introduce:The notion of the E-Project or electronic project as a genreA framework for representing the research design of a project in any QDAS packageEthical considerations when working in QDASA variety of contextual issues including national and organizational differences Eight real research projects of a variety of designs and using different QDAS (ATLAS.ti, MAXqda, NVIVO, and XSight) Separate checklists for ATLAS.ti, MAXqda, NVIVO, and XSight, providing practical help in applying the research design framework presented in the bookUniquely, the book examines issues related to both academic and non-academic uses of QDAS.Qualitative Research Design for Software Users is a useful reference for upper level students, academics and researchers across a range of disciplines.
