John Copeland is due to retire but which of his three children should take over the company? He sets them a challenge giving each of them 20,000. The one who can demonstrate the shrewdest business acumen and make the biggest profit will become his successor.His middle son Alex embarks on an audacious scheme to make money from religion. What could be easier he reasons. All he needs is a charismatic preacher to spout some philosophy and perform a few phoney miracles and the donations will come pouring in. He employs an actor to take the part of a religious leader but it soon becomes apparent that he isn't the compliant employee that Alex was hoping for. Before long he is calling the shots and has taken over the challenge. Events spiral out of control and Alex's comfortable existence rapidly disintegrates. As he loses everything he values, he finds himself stuck in a nightmare where no one is who they claim to be. As the preacher's amazing miracles become ever more difficult to explain, Alex wonders if he is going mad. Is he working with God, the Devil or a clever and unscrupulous con artist following his own twisted agenda?
