The Hal Roach Comedy Shorts of Thelma Todd, ZaSu Pitts and Patsy Kelly
?Hoping to follow his Laurel and Hardy success with a female comedy team, producer Hal Roach paired Thelma Todd with ZaSu Pitts in a 1931 series of two-reel shorts. Pitts left the studio for other pursuits, was replaced by Patsy Kelly and the series continued to be successful. Todd died under mysterious circumstances in 1935 and Kelly tried to carry on, first with Pert Kelton, then with Lyda Roberti. When Roberti died in 1938, the series ended. This book takes the first film-by-film look at each of the comedies these women made, how they responded to different directors and how production adapted to changes along the way. Credits, production information, period reviews, and critical assessments are included.

Parents and Schools Together shows administrators, teachers, and parents how to work together to produce high achieving students in urban school districts. We all know that in this fast-paced world of standards and commitments, it’s easy to forget what schools and parents are all about. There are things that schools can do to show parents the way to raise successful students. Parents have to help in order for schools to be high performing. Schools, especially schools of poverty and low achievement, have to have parent help if they are going to make it. Parents can’t use the excuse that they don’t know what to do or I’m not going to do that anymore. When schools enlist the help of parents, schools can begin to harness the full effect of all adults tag teaming together to raise students up to the levels they are capable of. Parents and School Together shows that it’s not just the school’s job to raise kids and it’s not just the parent’s job to raise kids. It takes both working together to raise successful students and kids.

The goal of teaching online is fundamentally the same as teaching face-to-face: facilitating the learning of all students to the greatest extent possible. This book differs from other books on online teaching in that, in the process of offering guidance on course design and planning, developing outcomes and appropriate engaging activities, managing the workload and assessment, the authors pay explicit attention throughout to the distinct and diverse needs of students and offer effective strategies to accommodate them in a comprehensive and inclusive way by using the principles of Universal Design for Learning. By following those principles from the outset when planning a course, all students will benefit, and most particularly those whom the research shows have the greatest achievement gaps when taking online courses -- males, first generation and low income students, those from underrepresented minority groups, the academically underprepared, students with disabilities, and those with limited online access or lacking readiness for online learning. Beyond good planning and design, Kelly and Zakrajsek offer ideas for creating inclusive course environments and activities, such as using culturally appropriate content and making it accessible in multiple formats. They also share methods to foster faculty-learner interaction and increase personal connections with students, and among students, through group activities or learning communities, which are so critical to motivation and success.Faculty new to online teaching as well as more experienced readers will find a wealth of practical guidance on developing and honing both fully online and blended courses and, as importantly, a wealth of proven ideas to help the new generation of students with diverse needs to succeed.

"A stirring invitation to join the great adventure for which we were born."-Eric Metaxas, Bestselling Author of Bonhoeffer "Not so much a book but a manifesto, a call to a roaring spiritual resistance."-Lou Engle, Co-Founder of The Call "He was counted among the rebels..." (Luke 22:37 NLT). Have we forgotten crucial aspects of the nature of Jesus? Savior, healer, deliverer, and friend are words that may come to mind when considering the person of Christ, yet in this dynamic book, Pastors Todd and Kelly Hudnall offer a unique take on a forgotten descriptor of His nature: rebel. Holy Rebel invites the reader to not merely admire Christ's rebellion against the kingdom of darkness, but to duplicate that same rebellion. Drawing on references from the Old and New Testaments, Todd and Kelly challenge the reader to forsake passive Christianity for a bold lifestyle that threatens hell's agenda. This book is a clarion call that will both motivate and mobilize believers to resist the very forces that so dominate our culture. Expect to be challenged in your walk with Christ as you arm yourself with righteousness, holiness, and truth. Our children, churches, communities-and even our nation-are at stake. Find a detailed, practical roadmap within these pages to help protect what God has given by resisting the plan of the evil one. Believers are not called to merely go with the flow. Instead, we are called to change the very direction of the tide-and this book shows you how.

Farming across Borders uses agricultural history to connect the regional experiences of the American West, northern Mexico, western Canada, and the North American side of the Pacific Rim, now writ large into a broad history of the North American West. Case studies of commodity production and distribution, trans-border agricultural labor, and environmental change unite to reveal new perspectives on a historiography traditionally limited to a regional approach.Sterling Evans has curated nineteen essays to explore the contours of “big” agricultural history. Crops and commodities discussed include wheat, cattle, citrus, pecans, chiles, tomatoes, sugar beets, hops, henequen, and more. Toiling over such crops, of course, were the people of the North American West, and as such, the contributing authors investigate the role of agricultural labor, from braceros and Hutterites to women working in the sorghum fields and countless other groups in between. As Evans concludes, “society as a whole (no matter in what country) often ignores the role of agriculture in the past and the present.” Farming across Borders takes an important step toward cultivating awareness and understanding of the agricultural, economic, and environmental connections that loom over the North American West regardless of lines on a map. In the words of one essay, “we are tied together . . . in a hundred different ways.”

Enter the edgy, gritty and distorted world of KELLY at your own risk; this tale takes NO prisoners. A slant on reality, headlines, gossip and hearsay merge the genres and cross-examines what is socially acceptable. KELLY caricatures the depravities of modern living and finds, with science, a possible way out. With the darkness of "Blade Runner," and the ugliness of "A Clockwork Orange," KELLY will shake your consciousness to its core. Contains adult material of a violent and sexual nature. I bet you wish you could handle this book? Be careful what you wish for...
