Keats and Shelley: Winds of Light combines unrivalled textual knowledge, biographical and contextual expertise, and profoundly insightful close readings of the poetry in a selection of outstanding essays from a leading critic of English Romantic Poetry. Some of the essays have been previously published and are established as classic studies, which have strongly influenced scholarly interpretation of the poems they discuss, including landmark readings of Shelley's Prometheus Unbound, 'Julian and Maddalo' and 'Ozymandias', and Keats's 'Isabella: or the Pot of Basil' and his sonnet 'On First Looking into Chapman's Homer'. These are brought into relationship with new work on the two poets, in a wide-ranging set of meditations which centre on Shelley's great elegy for Keats, Adonais. An introductory chapter considers the strongly contrasting poetic styles and achievement of the two iconic 'young Romantics', a contrast which has been obscured by their conventional close pairing in popular culture. Five studies of Keats are followed by a pivotal account of Shelley's elaborately-wrought poetic tribute to Keats's destined greatness, which leads in to a balancing six studies of Shelley. Both poets are situated illuminatingly in their literary, personal, and social-historical milieu, through a series of perspectives which combine lucid particularity with powerful generalization. The essays move from detailed analysis of textual minutiae to deep reflection on fundamental themes in the work of Keats and Shelley, including the ultimate themes of transience and permanence, and of life, death, and immortality.

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) was one of the major Romantic poets, and wrote what is critically recognised as some of the finest lyric poetry in the English language. This is the second volume of the five-volume The Poems of Shelley, which presents all of Shelley’s poems in chronological order and with full annotation. Date and circumstances of composition are provided for each poem and all manuscript and printed sources relevant to establishing an authoritative text are freshly examined and assessed. Headnotes and footnotes furnish the personal, literary, historical and scientific information necessary to an informed reading of Shelley’s varied and allusive verse. This volume makes extensive use of the Shelley manuscripts in the Bodleian Library and draws on the substantial recent research which has appeared on Shelley's text and contexts, and on members of his circle such as Mary Shelley, Byron, Godwin and others. It offers significant new datings and contextual exposition of major works including Prometheus Unbound, Laon and Cythna, 'Julian and Maddalo', The Cenci, and Shelley's translations from the Greek, notably his highly original translation of Euripides' The Cyclops. There are also comprehensive treatments of some of Shelley's best known shorter poems, such as 'Lines written among the Euganean Hills' and 'Ozymandias'.The annotation demonstrates the extraordinary range and richness of Shelley's literary intelligence, and situates his work in the revolutionary politics and social upheavals of the early nineteenth century. The text and annotation are supported by an extensive bibliography, a chronology, indexes, and appendices which include a detailed examination of the history of the Cenci story. The volumes of The Poems of Shelley form the most comprehensive edition of Shelley's poetry available to students and scholars.

Kelvin's Journey: A Story of a Mother's Love and Life in Accordance to GOD'S Purpose
It's never easy losing a loved one no matter whom that loved one may be. However, the loss of a child is never expected neither is it anticipated. So, when the inevitable happens she becomes devastated and numb to the fact unknowing how to react or deal with such a tragic event. Kelvin's Journey is based on a series of events which took place within a military family. Both soldiers serving on active duty, dealing with the daily struggles of life trying to find their way in it. Their lives started out as two young soldiers finding love while serving in a foreign country. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship/relationship despite the twists and turns which took place prior to their union of marriage. This is a true story based on a mother's perspective of her life and her marriage. It depicts the daily ups and downs she faced and the choices she made within her marriage and family life. Becoming a soldier, a mother and a wife. It's an emotional roller coaster ride of events. It delves into mother hood and child birth. How do you prepare for either? There aren't any step by step instructions or a how to book to explain It is simply a series of choices a mother makes in life based on her belief that the outcome will be for the betterment of her family. It evolves even deeper when she was thrown into premature labor, having a son born at 26 weeks in (1996), whom was diagnosed with severe life altering complications/conditions. The birth and survival of her son changed her family entire dynamics. She then had to choose between her career as a soldier and her role as a wife and mother. Again, she makes the choice to care for her son and give up her career for the betterment of her family. Unbeknownst to her this choice would make a devastating impact on her entire family and would change the direction of her entire life path. Throughout the course of her life she began to realize the consequences of her choices and how they impacted her love ones, (husband and daughter), and eventually herself as well. She had taken on a challenging task of caring for her disabled child with severe medical problems. What other choice could she have made? She soon began to realize that this was her new life and with it came the day to day caring for her special need child. As time passes on, while caring for her family, she noticed subtle changes in her daughter's behavior. Not wanting to believe that there was a problem but knowing there was one. In her attempt to move past it, things only worsened, as she notice's disturbing behaviors from her husband as well. In going over all that she had done she soon realizes that even though her actions in which she felt were for the betterment of her family ultimately changed the course of her entire life which ended in divorce, estrangement of her daughter and ultimately the passing of her son do to medical related causes. Throughout it all she relied upon GOD for her support and her strength. Life is about a series of events which create choices. The choices we make throughout our lives help to shape us into the individuals we become. They also have an impact on the loved ones around us. Some for the good and some not so good. Throughout it all there were lessons to be learned. I hope my story inspires others to find strength through adversity.
Kelvin, Thermodynamics and the Natural World
This volume looks afresh at the life and works of Lord Kelvin including his standing and relationships with Charles Darwin, T. S Huxley and the X-club, thereby throwing new light on the nineteenth-century conflict between the British energy and biology specialists. It focuses on two principal issues. Firstly, there is the contribution made by Kelvin to the formulation of the Laws of Thermodynamics, both personal and in the content of the scientific communications exchanged with other workers, such as Joule and Clausius. Secondly, there is Kelvin's impact on the wider field of science such as thermoelectricity and geology (determination of the age of the earth). Of late a number of studies and initiatives, including the Centenary celebrations of Kelvin's death and exhibits such as that of the 'Revolutionary Scientist' in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow, have been undertaken aiding the redefinition of Kelvin's greatness and achievements. The book also raises awareness to 'improve our approach to the teaching of elementary thermodynamics by attempting to empathise with Kelvin's perspective'.It is completed by a full biography, overviews of various monuments to his memory, and short 'Stories in Pictures' on the Atlantic cable, Maxwell's Demon, the universities associated with the development of thermodynamics and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Scientists and engineers with an interest in thermodynamics and anyone interested in the work of Lord Kelvin will find benefit in Kelvin, Thermodynamics and the Natural World.

Over the nearly 20 years of Kelvin probe force microscopy, an increasing interest in the technique and its applications has developed. This book gives a concise introduction into the method and describes various experimental techniques. Surface potential studies on semiconductor materials, nanostructures and devices are described, as well as application to molecular and organic materials. The current state of surface potential at the atomic scale is also considered. This book presents an excellent introduction for the newcomer to this field, as much as a valuable resource for the expert.
