How to use Windows 8 (8.1) for the average person. If you think "I don't understand it", or more importantly "I don't like it" This book can help you. If you bought a computer in the past 2 years, you probably had no choice but to use 8. So for all those who had to use 8 but hate it, I will show you how to use it. Windows releases seem to be on a cycle of good and bad. At first look Windows 8 showed promise. But after it was released to the public its unique interface started to crack. Immediately, people started saying "I don't understand it", and more importantly "I don't like it". After using and working on Windows 8 for 2 years now I dislike it more and more each day. THE BOOK EXPLAINS: Doing Windows updates and the 8.1 update. Creating a username not associated with a Microsoft account. The Start screen Charms Power, Search, Wireless, and Control Panel Programs The Desktop and the 8.1 Start button IE 11 The future of Windows 8 and more... I am not a Windows hater who just puts down anything Microsoft does. I Promoted Windows Vista and ME (Millennium) when they came out and everyone complained about them as we are about 8. "If you take some time to learn how to use it, you will be fine" I said. "Things change and you just have to go with it" I would explain. But shortly after 8 was released to the public, I found "getting used to" 8 was not going to happen. This book may be late to the game (Windows 8 is due to be replaced early 2015), but I hope to make a book easy for the average person to use and get the information they need. The book covers the basics of using the Windows 8.1 interface. It does not explain how to do everything with a computer. It does not explain settings or most programs. It shows you how to use the new Start screen, Charms, Desktop and some other easy tips to use the computer.
In this latest book, Fr Barker demonstrates a talent for harmonising together two seemingly very diverse dimensions of our Catholic popular piety: traditional Catholic teaching on Mary, the Mother of God, and Charismatic experience. He does this by an extended meditation on two key words, Disciple and Mother. It is extraordinary how devotion to Mary always brings us together in Christ. This has always happened in our Christian history. It is happening afresh today as well.-- Archbishop Christopher Prowse. Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn In the midst of the 2020 COVID-19 virus many bishops around the world entrusted their people to the maternal care of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was, in a way, the most natural thing to do. This is what Catholics instinctively have done. When in trouble you turn to your mother. At the heart of the Catholic faith there lives a love for Mary. Fr Ken Barker explores this love in this book. It ends fittingly with a prayer of entrustment. This meditation will lead to a desire to place our lives under the maternal care of the Mother of God.-- Archbishop Julian Porteous. Archdiocese of Hobart.
The Our Father is the prayer that Jesus himself has given us. In this careful and profoundly reflected upon book, Fr Ken takes us phrase by phrase through the Lord's Prayer. The text is meditative and filled with helpful stories that will appeal to today's incredible thirst for God. It is a joy to recommend this new book from such an anointed Australian writer on the spiritual life.Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Archdiocese of Canberra and GoulburnThis is a most informative, instructive, and accessible book on the Our Father. Fr Ken has done a great service in exploring the richness of this evangelical prayer and presenting it in a practical way. This is a must-read book for anyone desiring to deepen their appreciation and understanding of the prayer that Jesus gave to us, his disciples. I have found it very helpful for my own spiritual reading and am certain that many others will also find it profitable.Fr Aloysius Rego OCD, Mt Carmel Retreat Centre, Varroville. NSW.In these pages, Fr Ken teaches us afresh what it is to listen to Jesus, to learn from him and to enter with him into the heart of God, becoming daughters and sons of the Father, sisters and brothers to each other. Soon to be a feature film, The Late Bloomer is the revealing, harrowing and often funny memoir of a celebrity journalist and former hotshot hockey player who discovers that he has been biochemically infused with a female hormone. On the surface, Ken Baker seemed a model man. He was a nationally ranked hockey goalie; a Hollywood correspondent for People; a guest-lister at celebrity parties; and girls came on to him. Inside, though, he didn't feel like the man he was supposed to be. Although attracted to women, Ken had little sex drive and thus even less of a sex life. To his anguish, he repeatedly found himself unable to perform sexually. And, regardless of strenuous workouts, his body struggled to build muscle, earning him the nickname "Pear" from his macho teammates. Physically, matters turned bizarre when he discovered that he was lactating. The testosterone-driven culture in which Ken grew up made it agonizingly difficult for him to seek help. But in time he discovered something that lifted years of pain, frustration, and confusion: a brain tumor was causing his body to be flooded with massive amounts of a female hormone, which was disabling his masculinity. Five hours of surgery accomplished what years of therapy, rumination, and denial could not -- and allowed Ken Baker to finally feel -- and function -- like a man. Now Ken's story comes to the screen in the feature film, The Late Bloomer, starring Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons and Jane Lynch.
