12 Warrior Archangels are being sent to Earth to stop their Fallen Brethren from setting off Armageddon prematurely. Dorn, the Aquamarine Warrior, is the second archangel in line to come to Earth. Thanks to Archangel Kassern's lack of self-control, Dorn is forced to marry. However, selecting a nun as his wife will guarantee spiritual maturity and humility, thereby ensuring quick success. Along with his infallible research and persuasive aquamarine qualities, Dorn will find his ideal couple and become the unique warrior needed to fight Satan's abominations. But pairing a klutzy nurse with a handsome librarian with a dark past is more complex than Dorn expects. And his nun is hardly the paragon of virtue he expected. Having Kassern witness his miscalculations is bad enough, but requiring his aid to finish what should be a simple task is a humiliation Dorn will not soon forget.

On December 12, 1963, people across Kenya joyfully celebrated independence from British colonial rule, anticipating a bright future of prosperity and social justice. As the nation approached the fiftieth anniversary of its independence, however, the people's dream remained elusive. During its first five decades Kenya has experienced assassinations, riots, coup attempts, ethnic violence and political corruption. The ranks of the disaffected, the unemployed and the poor have multiplied. In this authoritative and insightful account of Kenya's history from 1963 to the present day, Daniel Branch sheds new light on the nation's struggles and the complicated causes behind them. Branch describes how Kenya constructed itself as a state and how enthnicity has proved a powerful force in national politics from the start, as have disorder and violence. He explores such divisive political issues as the needs of the landless poor, international relations with Britain and with the Cold War superpowers, and the direction of economic development. Tracing an escalation of government corruption over time, the author brings his discussion to the present, paying particular attention to the rigged election of 2007, the subsequent compromise government, and Kenya's prospects as a still-evolving independent state.
Female Circumcision Among the Abagusii of Kenya
Female Circumcision among the Abagusii of Kenya captures the traditional role of women initiation and associated rites of passage among the Abagusii community. The journey to womanhood was deemed incomplete without circumcision ("the cut"), a tradition practiced Abagusii for many centuries. Yet even in the face of knowledge and understanding of the harmful effects of "the cut", the majority of Abagusii, like many other communities that practice the rite, still sticks to the old practice, mainly because of taboos and societal acceptance. The author details women initiation in Gusii, discusses efforts to end the practice and outlines an Alternative Rite of Passage that doesn't involve "the cut". He further suggests a practical approach to the alternative rite of passage via workshops, and advocacy of churches, administration and opinion leaders in the community. This work is useful reading for those that wish to understand how initiation rites of passage impacted individuals. It is a good reference for social scientists, development partners, government and social change agents that seek to understand and design ways in which initiation can be actualized without harming the initiates. What others Say "The author was born and raised in Gusii where Female Genital Mutilation is rampant and has resisted change. He has given in this book first-hand information on what Female Cut is, its origin, how it is done in Gusii and he has given an alternative rite of passage into womanhood without the cut which is an integral section in the book. The book is an achievement by the author as well as all Kenyans who do not support female circumcision like me." - Hon. Linah Jebii Kilimo (Mrs.) M.P, Marakwet East, Minister of State Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Regional Development. "The book is a good reference material for Social Scientists, Researchers, Human Rights campaigners and for Anti Female Genital Mutilation supporters. The author clearly states in his book that he does not support Female Cut but his grandmother sees no reason to stop it since she was and most women in her community have undergone the enduring ritual. This family division makes me ask the last question: 'would you really like yours daughters not to be circumcised' " - Marc Lacey, Director and Correspondent of New York Times. "The book reading committee of the Seventh Day Adventist Church recommended this book to be used in all meetings, seminars and workshops in Nyamira Conference and beyond. The book has relevant and accurate notes about the current traditional and cultural practices of Abagusii people as a whole. It details the side effects of the Female Cut; it further proposes the Alterative Rite of Passage into womanhood without "the cut", an idea that we have employed in our churches. I grew up in Christian background hence I was not exposed to Abagusii traditions of circumcision and its rituals. The book lays out clearly what happened in such ceremonies in a coherent and flowing manner. It offers invaluable reference material for me and others in church." - Pastor Dorca Ongaga, Women Ministries Director, Seventh Day Adventist Conference, Nyamira.

The war of words between rivals is a captivating experience for any audience since it is literary a battle of wits. But for the audience gauging to determine the master of the garb, there are lots of other components in play on the background which have a significance in academia. This is exactly what happens to contemporary mchongoano, a kind of ritualised verbal war conducted in Kenya which is explored in this book. It is a kind of "mock insult ritual" based on a scalar humour structure exemplified by its unique opening formula: "your mama..." producing humour. Ostensibly, this genre is well-known for its hard-hitting-under-the-belt "mocked insults" and especially the humour accompanying it. Nonetheless, in Kenya it seems to paint an interesting picture of the society with regard to the emerging thematic concerns. Similarly, there are underlying language resources that seem to be exhibited which have not been fully academically exploited before and this book comes handy as far as addressing the scholarly perspective is concerned. Thus, this book captures the unique structure of contemporary mchongoano, its language and style as well as the distinctive humour it elicits.

This book details the devastating Mau Mau civil war fought in Kenya during the 1950s and the legacies of that conflict for the post-colonial state. As many Kikuyu fought with the colonial government as loyalists joined the Mau Mau rebellion. Focusing on the role of those loyalists, the book examines the ways in which residents of the country's Central Highlands sought to navigate a path through the bloodshed and uncertainty of civil war. It explores the instrumental use of violence, changes to allegiances, and the ways in which cleavages created by the war informed local politics for decades after the conflict's conclusion. Moreover, the book moves toward a more nuanced understanding of the realities and effects of counterinsurgency warfare. Based on archival research in Kenya and the United Kingdom and insights from literature from across the social sciences, the book reconstructs the dilemmas facing members of society at war with itself and its colonial ruler.
