The Agricultural Revolution – including the domestication of plants and animals in the Near East – that occurred 10,500 years ago ended millions of years of human existence in small, mobile, egalitarian communities of hunters-gatherers. This Neolithic transformation led to the formation of sedentary communities that produced crops such as wheat, barley, peas, lentils, chickpeas and flax and domesticated range of livestock, including goats, sheep, cattle and pigs. All of these plants and animals still play a major role in the contemporary global economy and nutrition. This agricultural revolution also stimulated the later development of the first urban centres. This author was extraordinarily lucky to be alive! All those who read this splendid Second World War memoir will doubtless come to the same view. After joining up in 1939 with the Queen's Royal Regiment the Author was posted to the North West Frontier of India where he cut his teeth chasing Pathan tribesman bandit gangs for two years. This was exciting enough but only a taste of what was to come. The Japanese advance into Burma threatened India and along with many thousands of British and Colonial troops Lowry found himself fighting in the Arakan region. Conditions were appalling and the fighting was extremely bitter by any standards. His Battalion was cut off by the Japs for three weeks but refused to surrender yet even worse was to come as the Battalion was thrown into the thick of the action at Kohima which is rated as the most desperate defensive action for the campaign. In one week 173 members of this Battalion were lost. Lowry himself was seriously wounded when a Japanese officer dropped out of a tree onto him. All this is vividly described in this fascinating and inspiring book.

Le basi di Schiff sono composti contenenti un gruppo azometinico (-HC=N-) formato dalla condensazione di un'ammina primaria con un composto carbonilico attivo. I derivati della sulfonamide sono stati oggetto di studi in cui stata preparata un'ampia variet di tali derivati, utilizzati in vari campi biologici e farmacologici. Le basi di Schiff sono tra i derivati della sulfonamide pi studiati e utilizzati per diverse applicazioni biologiche. Questo tipo di derivati molto importante per la loro struttura variegata e le loro attivit biologiche. In continuit con il nostro lavoro sui derivati della sulfonamide, il presente lavoro orientato alla sintesi di nuove basi di Schiff derivate da 4-(2,4-diclorofenil)-6-(6-metilnaftalen-2-il)pirimidin-2-amina e i derivati della sulfonamide sono stati sintetizzati mediante condensazione di chalcon con cloridrato di guanidina.
