In Frog Knights (book one of the lavishly illustrated Kingdom of Frogavia series - book two, Frogavia Frogavia , is also available from Trafford Publishing) frogs are depicted as characters in their own world - the big pond known as The Kingdom Of Frogavia. The true king is unseated from his ancient throne and banished to a far, distant pond by the evil, ambitious Dax Frogditch who has gathered a huge army with promises of 'a better life ...'. The years of Frogditch's bullying ways and tyrannical rule stretch on and the Frogavian people grow increasingly restless and unhappy. Finally, a group of brave young rebels rise up and go in search of their true king. They eventually find him and he dubs them all 'knights' in gratitude for their loyalty. The king then shows them how to weave reeds and grasses into costumes, so they are dressed as knights. After driving Frogditch out of Frogavia, Sir Robert Ribbet, Sir Fergus Leapingfrog, Sir Morton Muddybottom, Sir Frederick Hopper, Sir Barry Bluepond and the other knights escort King Francis, Queen Fiona and their two daughters Princess Flora and Princess Fay back to Frogavia. The knights dive deep into Castle Pond to retrieve the King's ancient throne. It lies in pieces on the muddy bottom where Frogditch dumped it long ago along with the King's treasure: magical holed stones that give protection from evil. Many Frogavian families were poor and destitute under Frogditch's heartless rule. Robin Froghood and his friend, Littlefrog raid Frogditch's own well-stocked kitchen and take food to give to the poor. When the King hears about their good work he bestows knighthoods on them too. In Frogditch's time, no flowers bloomed in Frogavia. The lily pads were shrivelled and brown, the pond waters were murky and it became a dark, gloomy place. But, now even as the Knights escort the King and his family back to Castle Frogrock, the beautiful waterlilies burst into blossom on the azure blue waters of Castle Pond. Other flowers join in and bloom all over the rocky castle in colorful abundance. As in the days of old, the Good King invites every one of his subjects to his many celebrations and happy frog songs echo once again across Castle Pond. Frogavia Frogavia is book two of the lavishly illustrated Kingdom of Frogavia series (book one, Frog Knights, is also available from Trafford Publishing). It depicts a 'slice of life' in the beautiful Frog Kingdom. After years of exile at a small, far-distant pond, King Francis IV is back on the Ancient Throne Of Frogavia, The Royal Seat Of His Illustrious Ancestors. While in exile, King Francis met and married a much younger beauty named Fiona. Now she is Queen Fiona and they have two lovely daughters, Princess Flora and Princess Fay who were both born at the Little Pond where their father was in exile. Then came the Brave Young Frogavians to find Their True King and return him to Frogavia which was in a state of unrest and unhappiness under the rule of The Pretender To The Throne, The Evil Dax Frogditch who with his followers, kept The Frogavian People in a grip of hardship and terror. King Francis dubs each of the young Frogavian rescuers' "Frog Knights" and they charge back to Frogavia with banners flying to oust - Frogditch and his gang forever. The waterlilies on Castle Pond had ceased to bloom under Frogditch's rule. Now, with the return of The True King and His Family, escorted by The Gallant Frog Knights, the Frogavian People rejoice and celebrate and the gorgeous waterlilies burst into an abundance of blossoms once again. With harmony restored, one of The Knights, Sir Robert Ribbet goes to The King and asks for the hand of The King's older daughter, Princess Flora in marriage. For Robert has loved Flora since he first saw her. But, alas, Princess Flora longs for someone back at The Little Pond where she was born... She loves The Flute Player. Concerned for his daughter's happiness, King Francis sends The Knights to bring The Flute Player to Frogavia. A renowned Priest/ Magician marries Princess Flora and The Flute Player in an ancient ceremony of The Old Frog Religion under the golden light of a full moon. Every citizen of Frogavia is invited to the wedding and the celebrations go on for days with dancing on the lilypads and frogsong echoing across Castle Pond. But the only one who is not rejoicing is Sir Robert Ribbet. He sits dejected alone and lost, for Princess Flora was his inspiration. Then he hears familiar voices through the reeds ... His friends Robin Froghood and Littlefrog (both also knighted for their work) are on another mission to 'help the poor and needy and continue the fight of good against evil'... They ask Robert to join them and all three are singing as they leap across the lilypads into a new adventure. " Sigrid Undset] should be the next Elena Ferrante." --Slate A Penguin Classic Kristin Lavransdatter interweaves political, social, and religious history with the daily aspects of family life to create a colorful, richly detailed tapestry of Norway during the fourteenth-century. The trilogy, however, is more than a journey into the past. Undset's own life--her familiarity with Norse sagas and folklore and with a wide range of medieval literature, her experiences as a daughter, wife, and mother, and her deep religious faith--profoundly influenced her writing. Her grasp of the connections between past and present and of human nature itself, combined with the extraordinary quality of her writing, sets her works far above the genre of "historical novels." This new translation by Tina Nunnally--the first English version since Charles Archer's translation in the 1920s--captures Undset's strengths as a stylist. Nunnally, an award-winning translator, retains the natural dialog and lyrical flow of the original Norwegian, with its echoes of Old Norse legends, while deftly avoiding the stilted language and false archaisms of Archer's translation. In addition, she restores key passages left out of that edition.Undset's ability to present a meticulously accurate historical portrait without sacrificing the poetry and narrative drive of masterful storytelling was particularly significant in her homeland. Granted independence in 1905 after five hundred years of foreign domination, Norway was eager to reclaim its national history and culture. Kristin Lavransdatter became a touchstone for Undset's contemporaries, and continues to be widely read by Norwegians today. In the more than 75 years since it was first published, it has also become a favorite throughout the world. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Kristin B. and Other Stories is a brilliant collection of three novellas by Joseph Raffetto. The new work includes Young Scott and Zelda, the remarkable tale of Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayre's early love; Three A.M. delves into the ominous and tragic side of Scott and Zelda's love and marriage; and Kristin B., a dark, psychological thriller and romance. YOUNG SCOTT AND ZELDATwenty-one-year-old F. Scott Fitzgerald was a pretty boy, a drinker, remarkably outgoing for one so sensitive and, of course, gifted. It was during this period in his life that he fell madly in love with the beautiful, eccentric, and talented eighteen-year-old Southern belle, Zelda Sayre. This is the historic story of their early romance. THREE A.M.After Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald's remarkable early romance came financial excess, sexual problems, Scott's alcoholism, Hemingway, Gatsby, Zelda's illness, Hollywood, and the undercurrent of loss and love that marked their later lives. This is a look back at the dark side of paradise. KRISTIN B.Kristin Boyd returns home to try to recover. She is soon drawn to Holden Helms, a former professional baseball star, who destroyed his career because of his own demons. They must come to terms with their pasts through forgive- ness, reconciliation, and revenge. Only then will there be, for better or for worse, epiphany. Joseph Raffetto earned a BA in comparative literature from San Diego State University and is the author of Mysteries of Bowie and Other Oddities. He lives in Santa Barbara.
