The Focus Student Editions are designed for French language courses in literature and culture. Prepared with non-native French speakers in mind, these editions include an introduction (in French), the complete work, and linguistic and cultural notes in French, a current bibliography and study questions. This Focus student edition is a novel published in 1953 by Camara Laye, an African writer born in Guinea and is an autobiographical story which narrates in first person a journey from childhood in Kouroussa, through challenges in Conakry, to France.
