She reflects on a past filled with pain, abandonment, disappointment, violence, abuse, and molestation. In a time when she really didn't have control and all that she felt she could do was cry until there were no more tears. She became numb with anger and a dislike from her core toward GOD. Although still a work in progress, her one-on-one relationship with God has evolved tremendously over the years. The class leader system or discipleship through small groups is an effective tool used by leaders to connect directly with members of a congregation. The method mirrors Jesus' walk with his twelve disciples. Rather than welcoming them into the faith and leaving them on their own to figure out how to live a Christian lifestyle, Jesus created a model of walking with his disciples and teaching them life lessons along the way.Many churches have experienced exponential growth by utilizing this model of ministry while others have failed to embrace the value of walking with and teaching those under their charge. This has often resulted in disengaged memberships and often a decline in church participation. This guide is created to assist those who have been assigned, appointed, or requested to be Class or Small Group Leaders. The guide is designed to be used for a quarter (3 months/ 12 weeks) with a weekly check-in with each member. Those who are not actively using the small group discipleship model may find this guide helpful because it not only provides space for the Leader to document personal information about their class members, but it also provides prompts for spiritual discussions with their class members.

A clique of Caribbean maroon warrior women, a general of Haiti and his right-hand man, an ex-enslaved couple reclaiming their land, a group of Black French Caribbean soldiers held captive in Portchester and their wives travelling across the Atlantic to be reunited with them. These are The Ancestors: manifesting in our world, in the hopes we can stop history repeating itself. But do we really hold the key? What dark forces are still currently at play?In October 1796 a fleet of ships from the Caribbean carrying over 2,500 prisoners-of-war, who were mostly Black or mixed-race, began to arrive in Portsmouth Harbour. By the end of that month, almost all of them were held at Portchester Castle, accompanied by their families. About 100 women and children were sent to live nearby.The Ancestors is a site-specific play by Lakesha Arie-Angelo that explores the grounds of Portchester Castle and the voices of Black revolutionaries imprisoned therein that history forgot. It was commissioned by the National Youth Theatre as part of Freedom and Revolution, a collaboration with English Heritage’s Shout Out Loud Programme and University of Warwick aimed at shining a new light on the lives of these prisoners with the participation of local young people.The Ancestors is published in Methuen Drama's Plays For Young People Age series which offers suitable plays for young performers at schools, youth groups and youth theatres that have each had premiere productions by young performers in the UK.
