It presents the concepts of assembly language programming in different ways, slowly building from simple examples towards complex programming on bare-metal embedded systems. The ARM processor was chosen as it has fewer instructions and irregular addressing rules to learn than most other architectures, allowing more time to spend on teaching assembly language programming concepts and good programming practice. Careful consideration is given to topics that students struggle to grasp, such as registers vs. memory and the relationship between pointers and addresses, recursion, and non-integral binary mathematics. A whole chapter is dedicated to structured programming principles. Concepts are illustrated and reinforced with many tested and debugged assembly and C source listings. Ever since Larry D. Thomas crafted the poems which ended up in his first book, The Lighthouse Keeper, a Small Press Review "Pick-of-the Issue" chapbook published in a handset letterpress edition by Timberline Press in 2000/2001, he has turned to the chapbook as his favored means of poetic expression on twenty-five occasions (ten of his published books are book-length print editions).). His chapbooks have received a number of other significant honors including a Western Heritage Wrangler Award for The Goatherd (the first poetry chapbook to be awarded this most prestigious honor); a Pecan Grove Press National Chapbook Competition finalist citation and Violet Crown Award finalist citation (both for The Woodlanders); and a Spur Award Finalist citation (for The Red, Candlelit Darkness) from Western Writers of America. Additionally, his poem titled "Irene" from Los D as de los Muertos was nominated by Right Hand Pointing for the Pushcart Prize.Fifteen of Thomas's twenty-five chapbooks were first published online (as electronic chapbooks), thirteen by Right Hand Pointing in its invitation-only poetry chapbook series. The Circus, published by Right Hand Pointing in 2008, was re-published in an expanded print edition by Blue Horse Press in 2016. The Red, Candlelit Darkness, first published in print by El Grito del Lobo Press, was re-published online by Right Hand Pointing in 2013. Thomas's other e-chapbooks were published by Lily Press, Slow Trains Literary Journal, and the Virtual Artists Collective (nodding onion imprint), all three of which are/were juried publications (Lily Press has ceased publication). The book moves in a nonreductive way between literary and theological criticism to show how drama and religious thought discern the experience of evil. "Tragic method" refers to how tragic art functions as inquiry; "tragic theology" refers to how drama and theology render in thematic or symbolic form certain irreducible dimensions of evil and negativity. Bouchard defines no single tragic method or any single view of evil but searches for the distinctive interplay of tragic method of theology in each dramatist.The work opens by scrutinizing certain important interpretations of Greek tragedy. Paul Ricoeur's interpretation of "the Wicked God and the Tragic Vision" receives major focus, as does Sophocles, who as a tragedian dramatized the action of inquiry and interpretation.Bouchard then examines Augustine's views of evil and sin, Reinhold Niebuhr's critique of the ironies of history, and Tillich's conceptions of the demonic. By interpreting tragedy in terms of sin or the effects of sin, each theologian resists implications in his own thought pointing to a less resolvable tragic theology. And yet these theologians also contribute very creative understandings of the irreducible character of evil and tragic experience. Substantive and original readings of three playwrights are offered: Rolf Hochhuth's tragedy of vocation, The Deputy, Robert Lowell's trilogy of American historical blindness, The Old Glory, and Peter Shaffer's dreams of tragic awareness and accountability in Equus and Amadeus, revealing new permutations of the irreducibility of evil in contemporary Christian and Jewish religious thinkers who may be helpful in this task, and concludes with a description of the experience of perplexed thought, self-critical in view of tragedy's witness to irreducibility of evil.

A Quest for Security is the first book-length biography of Samuel Parris, the man who led the 1692 struggle against the scourge of witchcraft. While an examination of Samuel Parris's actions reveals his crucial part in the witchcraft crisis, this biography also serves as a reminder of the concern of early Americans to sustain economic independence for their families. Fully documented with endnotes and featuring a complete bibliography of primary and secondary works, this volume fills a noticeable gap in the literature on Salem witchcraft.The first chapter looks at Samuel Parris's early years. Born in London in 1653, Parris moved with his family to Barbados in the 1660s where both his uncle and father had prospered as sugar planters. Next, the book examines his stay in Boston where he met with modest success as a merchant and started a family. The book then recounts the eight years Parris spent in Salem Village as that divided community's pastor. Beginning with his call to the clergy, the book examines his life as a Puritan pastor, and then covers the conflict in his congregation. In the first year of his ministry, a faction had developed that sought to oust Parris by refusing to pay him. Next the book covers Parris's actions in the spring of 1692 which changed a seemingly ordinary case of a handful of accusations into a full-scale witchhunt. Convinced that an organized witch cult threatened his congregation, Parris sought to root out all conspirators. His leadership in the effort led to an ever increasing escalation of accusations. When the episode finally ended, family members of some of the twenty executed witches conducted a campaign that ultimately resulted in Parris's removal from the pulpit. The final chapter looks at Parris's last years, in which he moved from one small Massachusetts community to another. Parris died in obscurity in 1720. But he achieved his most important goal--that of providing material security for his children.
